Visiting and Piano Tuning on Tuesday

Aunt T's phone call woke me up, this morning, but I went back to sleep!  After I woke up, later, and had my morning cup of tea (chose to have tea, today, rather than coffee), I called cousin P to see if she was free to go with me to visit aunt T, this afternoon.  Then, I called aunt T back and confirmed we will be coming to see her.  She wanted me to tell cousin P to bring her some guavas, so I passed on the message.  I called cousin V, as well (aunt T's older daughter), but she didn't answer, so I left her a message.

I spent a relaxed rest of the morning, replying to blog comments (daughter says thank you for all the congratulations), and reading a few other blogs.

For breakfast, I had a scrambled egg, half a slice of bacon, and a piece of toast.

In the afternoon, cousin P and I visited aunt T and aunt insisted that we had lunch with her.  Her caregiver had cooked rice, beef curry, a type of egg plant (they are small, round, green and white splotched, and are usually smashed open, rather than cut, prior to cooking), water spinach, and a salad with red onions, tomatoes, and pineapple.  For dessert, we had fresh, ripe jakfruit.  Delicious!

We spent a couple of hours eating and chatting.  Then, we took our leave with a promise to visit, again.

On the way back, I stopped at the grocery store to buy milk, bananas, and grapes:

10/30 Groceries

I mostly needed milk ($1.99 for 1/2 gal.), but the bananas (@$.59/lb) looked good and the grapes were on sale for $.88/lb.  I spent $4.56, total.

10/30 Receipt
I had $12.20 left in my grocery budget.  $12.20 - $4.56 = $7.64.  It will be carried forward to November.

After I came home, I watered the front garden (it was 85F, today, so the newly planted mums needed a drink of water!) and had a cup of tea.

The piano tuner came around 5:30 p.m. to attend to the piano and spent almost 2 hours tuning it, as it was so out of tune!  It was last tuned almost 7 years ago!  I promised him I won't wait that long to call him out, again!

Dinner was the last of the pasta I had cooked earlier and the roast chicken I had thawed.  Followed by a banana, and, later, a slice of bread and butter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to visit aunt T, at long last!
- Spending time with cousin P, as well
- The newly planted mums seem to be doing well, so far
- The piano has been tuned
- A sunny, warm day

  1. I am so glad you made the time to visit with your aunt. It sounds like she really enjoyed the visit. She definitely was anticipating the company, that's for sure.

I had a busy day yesterday, and after returning from my cravings workshop to a gorgeous warm and sunny afternoon, I should have taken the opportunity to clean up my verandah for the kids tonight. But I was feeling tired and I needed to start dinner, so I put it off. Today it is raining but I need to get that job done and decorate. So my day is planned out for me. I will take a break from Christmas preparations to look after Halloween first.

    1. Yes, I was glad I was able to visit Aunt. She is certainly not lacking for company, though. She has a constant stream of visitors throughout the day. One of her neighbors was already there, when we went, yesterday; she had brought some lunch for aunt! But aunt loves company and feels dull when there is no one there to talk to her. She's my mother's sister-in-law and as kind and as helpful as can be. But now, she's 90+ and it's hard for her to accept that she's unable to do the things she used to do.

Good of you to decorate for the kids. Hope you get a lot of trick or treaters for all that yummy candy you bought for them! Happy Halloween!

  2. Was it 'thalana batu' that you had at aunt's place? :)

No special plans for Halloween here. I gave my students a test! That was scary enough. LOL

    1. Nil, yes, it was "thalana batu"! I guess the English name would be Thai eggplant.

Oh, a test is a scary thing, any day! May I ask what you teach?

    2. Ah! I hope you don't mind if I admit that it was one of my least favorite subjects! :D

  3. I would never have thought of combining pineapple with tomatoes and red onions, but I have seen a recipe which incorporates grapefruit with tomatoes. I think I would like to try the pineapple version and red onion is always great in salads and sandwiches.

We don't get anyone round for Hallowe'en as our driveway is rather long and the houses are spaced out in the bush, so any local children usually go into town with friends. I used to decorate years ago when there were children we knew living near, but then later it was all for nothing so I don't bother now. However, I do buy a box of mini chocolate bars just in case anyone shows up. Of course DH is happy to make sure none go to waste! I guess if we ever moved somewhere with houses closer to each other and closer to the road, I would be decorating for sure.

    1. I didn't decorate for Halloween, this year, myself, Bushlady. I just put the Halloween table runner I had made on the coffee table, but that was it! Only a couple of houses on my block decorated, this year, and I didn't hear any children trick-or-treating in my neighborhood.

Nice of your DH to make sure that none of the candy bars go to waste! :D I
