I spent a quiet morning, today. For some reason or the other, I just couldn't settle down to do anything; I think I was stressing about the appointment at the DMV. I did do a little paperwork and two bills were paid.
In the afternoon, I went to the DMV to renew my driver's license. My appointment was scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and I got there at 2:45 p.m. I was checked in after a few minutes of standing in a short line (4 people ahead of me) and done and out by 3:25 p.m. and that included the time (around 15 minutes) it took for me to fill out the online application (I chose to do that at the DMV, instead of at home). I expected there to be a long wait, even with an appointment, and had taken a book to read while I waited, but I didn't have time to even open the book! There was absolutely no wait. My documents were verified, I was given the vision test, finger printed and my photo taken, I paid my renewal fee and my temporary license issued, in less than 15 minutes.
After I came home, I had a late lunch (I had eaten crackers and cheese for breakfast). Later, I washed the dishes and cleaned the stove and the vent hood. Dinner was leftovers - rice, meatball curry, lentils, and green beans.
Still later, I video chatted with my daughter. In today's local news, they spoke about a hit and run accident where a woman was run over and killed while crossing a street, at a crosswalk, by a pick up truck, making a right turn; the whole incident was caught on a nearby security camera. I was reminded of how narrowly my daughter escaped the same fate, a few days ago!
Today, I am grateful for:
- My daughter didn't get hurt when crossing the street, that day
- The DMV appointment went well and without long waits
- Being retired and able to take it easy when I feel like it
- What I was able to accomplish today
- A sunny and warm day
Thursday's To Do List:
- DMV appointment in the afternoon - DONE
- More paperwork - DID SOME
- Continue with the kitchen cleaning - DID SOME (stove top - under the burners, vent hood)
Friday's To Do List:
- More paperwork
- Continue with the kitchen cleaning
- Water the house plants
- Meditation session
How was your Thursday? What have you planned for Friday?
How long does your renewed license last for? My license continues until I'm 70 when I will have to reapply to continue driving.
ReplyDeleteI have to do a bit of reorganising today because I've bought my new bed ahead of schedule (at a bargain price I couldn't pass up!) so need to find room for it until the bedroom is empty, decorated and ready for use.
Eileen, the license is valid for 5 years. In general, one may renew it by mail or online, twice, after which one has to go in person for a vision test. At age 70, however, one must go in person and take both a written test and vision test in order to renew.
DeleteOh, a new bed! How exciting! So glad you were able to get it at a bargain price! That's always nice!
I have never lived anywhere where you could make an appointment at the DMV. While the workers make an effort to be really nice, the wait always seems to take forever. Glad your appointment went well.
ReplyDeleteHere, they encourage and urge people to make appointments, to cut down on wait times. It worked out very well, for me.
DeleteYour daughter was very lucky. These days both drivers and pedestrians have to be ever alert. There are many distractions to deal with and people need to be mindful. My husband used to remind me that while you might have the right of way, you don't want to end up being "dead right".
ReplyDeleteGood job on the kitchen deep cleaning. I need to do the same. You also reminded me to look at my indoor plants. I did not need to water when I came back from up north because I "drowned" them well before I left.
Yes, she was. I am so grateful that she didn't get hurt or worse.
DeleteThank you, Susan. The kitchen deep cleaning will continue - there's always something to clean in the kitchen, isn't there?
Normally DMV offices are notorious for long waits, but I've never experienced it. It's seems like your office is also a very efficient one.
ReplyDeleteThey were certainly very quick and efficient on this visit. There was some very bad publicity over the summer about long lines and long delays at the local DMV offices and computer glitches. Part of the reason why I went in expecting long lines. But, obviously, at least in this particular office, they were on top of things.
DeleteYou are fortunate to be able to make DMV appointments. Ours is take your chances and plan to wait!
ReplyDeleteThey encourage you to make appointments, Anne, in order to avoid the waits. I'm glad that they do. But, you might not get an appointment as soon as you'd like, so, some people prefer to just go and stand in line.
DeleteHi Bless,
ReplyDeleteI was just curious if you've heard anything from Nathalie? Her blog doesn't even come up anymore. It just goes to google blogger or something like that. Thanks.
Mia, Nathalie has stopped blogging. Her last post on her blog, about a month ago, stated she was making it a private blog. The last time I checked it, I received a message that access was available by invitation only. I'm sorry she decided not to continue with the blog; I hope she'll change her mind.
