Rest on Friday

I was able to sleep in this morning without any phone calls disturbing me!  Even Aunt T waited until noon to call! LOL!  We had a nice chat and I promised to visit her, next week.

My mouth feels much better, today, although there is still a little swelling.  I rinsed with warm salt water, but didn't take any more Tylenol.

I decided to take it easy and rest, today.  Spent the rest of the morning responding to blog comments and checking emails and reading.

A third Starfish flower has bloomed:

New Starfish Flower

The other two flowers are starting to fade:

The first two flowers, starting to fade
Each flower is about 5 inches across.  Neither friend M nor I detected any smell.  There are two other buds that will probably flower next week.

Cousin P called in the afternoon and we chatted for a bit.  Later, neighbor T called and gave me an update about her appointment with her doctor.

Later in the afternoon, I called the temple and spoke with one of the monks to confirm the date of the almsgiving.  I also told him I will not be coming to the meditation session today and made my excuses.

M did some tidying and clearing in the garden.  Later, I turned on the sprinklers to water the back garden.  I will water the front garden, tomorrow.

I had yogurt for breakfast.  Lunch, eaten late in the afternoon, was a cold cuts sandwich, followed by a cup of tea, a little while later.  Rice, curried shrimp, and green beans for dinner.  Later, I made a bread pudding with the two ends of the loaf of bread and had a serving of that for dessert!

Bread Pudding
I cubed the two end pieces of bread, put them in a buttered casserole dish, mixed up about a cup of milk, two eggs, about 1/2 cup of sugar, and a bit of vanilla, poured that mixture over the bread cubes, let the bread soak up the mixture, a little bit, added a handful of cashews and some dried cranberries and baked it, at 350F for about 30 minutes or so.  It puffed up in the oven while baking, but went down afterwards.  It is getting cool enough to turn on the oven, so I am able to bake, again!

I cut myself a piece while it was still warm, as that is how I like bread pudding the best.

Yummy Bread Pudding!
Later in the night, I washed the dishes and video chatted with daughter.  Need to clean the litter box before I go to bed.

Today, I am grateful for:

  1. What a neat starfish flower! And your bread pudding looks so good. Glad your mouth is feeling better today. I dislike going to the dentist.....I never realized that as I got older I would need things like crowns, etc! And they are pricey although I've never had a bridge or hit that price range. Andrea

    1. Thank you, Andrea. Dental work seems to be very expensive here. My insurance will only cover 50% of the cost for the bridge. But, the bridge is cheaper than implants, which I chose not to have.

  2. Ooh your bread pudding looks delicious. I don't remember the last time I made one. Mom used to make it when I was little, and my favorites back then were bread pudding and watalappan. 😊

I hope you have a restful weekend.

    1. Thank you, Nil. Bread pudding is a bit of a comfort food, isn't it? Watalappan, now, is more of a treat! I still remember the time I made watalappan when my daughter was a baby - less than 2 years old, as I think I was making the pudding for her birthday party. I turned around to get something from the counter and in that minute, she had dumped all the egg shells into the pudding mixture and was happily mixing them in! She was so proud to be "helping"! I had to strain the mixture to remove the egg shells and to this day, I tease her about the crunchy watalappan we had that time! LOL!

Thanks, I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  3. You might remember that I used to make bread pudding a LOT a few years ago. My husband and I both loved it so much...like a comfort food. I also enjoyed it slightly warm. It may be a main reason why my doctor put me on this diet, haha. So no more bread pudding. My comfort food now is cottage cheese.

Glad to hear you are feeling better today. Wise to relax this weekend after having two hours at the dentist's office. Maybe you can do some work on your Christmas projects instead?

    1. I haven't made bread pudding in a while, Susan, but yes, I, too, have to be careful with the sweets and desserts. So I try not to make too many of them, now. But, my daughter and I had been talking about bread pudding, the other night, and so, I just felt the urge to make some. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! LOL!

Yes, I started making a list of people I'll be giving holiday gifts to (some will be for Christmas, the others for the New Year as they are not Christians). Going to use up my fabric stash as much as possible!

  4. The bread pudding looks really good. It's not hard to make, so I don't know why I never think of it.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Bread pudding is easy to make - just a matter of making the egg-milk mixture and pouring it over the bread! You can adjust the sugar to your liking and I know some people make it as a savory dish (for brunch, etc.) with cheese and omit the sugar.

  5. Bread pudding must be the ultimate comfort food, and after that, oatmeal with brown sugar. I don't make bread pudding and I really should. We are going to a buffet locally and one of the desserts is a particularly yummy bread pudding, so much more appealing than the cakes and pies, although I usually try a little of something else as well. Like you I must watch that I don't eat too many sweet desserts except for special occasions. I was thinking the other day, why is it that the things that are not always good for us are the things that really call to us? I have to fight to get past the Paczki doughnuts in the store every time I go in there, but I do buy them on rare occasions for a treat.

    1. I like bread pudding but don't like oatmeal! Which is too bad, because, oatmeal would be better for me than bread pudding! Cousin P came over with some guavas from her tree and I sent the rest of the bread pudding home with her, so I won't be tempted to eat it all! :) Yum, doughnuts! There are two doughnut shops just three blocks from my house! That's why I do in the other direction when I go for my walk! LOL!
