September Balanced Life Goals

As I have mentioned earlier, the goal, as always, is to achieve a sense of balance in my life.  To that end, I've identified several areas of importance to me, so that I don't neglect any aspects of my life that are important to me and my life feels more balanced.  Health will continue to dominate, yet again, as it impacts all areas of my life.  These, then, are my goals for a more balanced life in September:

Spiritual:  The goal is to live a spiritually meaningful life.

- Continue with daily prayers and gratitude
- Continue to focus on blessings, joy, and abundance
- Take time for meditation(doesn't have to be an extended period of time;  even 5 minutes of intentional, mindful meditation is good)
- Cultivate non-attachment and patience!
- Attend the monthly prayer gathering if possible
- Visit the temple; hold a prayer service in thanksgiving for answered prayers

Environment:  The goal is a clean, tidy, uncluttered house and a well-maintained garden.
House:
- Do some regular house cleaning - implement cleaning routines to the extent possible
- Declutter -  Cultivate non-attachment to things by decluttering at least one item a day during the month ofSeptember
- Do some organizing
Garden:
- Attend to the eucalyptus tree - get an arborist's opinion; trim or cut down the tree
- Water and try to keep the plants alive as we continue with our hottest time of the year
- Continue to weed and mulch

Daughter:  The goal is to continue to have a close relationship with her.
- Enjoy her current visit over the long weekend
- Daily texts, phone calls, emails , and video chatting!
Family & Friends:  The goal is to keep in touch with various family members and friends.
- Communicate regularly - phone calls, texts, and emails
- Go out to lunch with sister (scheduled for 1st Sunday of September)
- Go to lunch at a friend's house (scheduled for 1st Saturday of September)
- Invite aunt and cousin to dinner

Career:  The goal is to continue to do work which I enjoy (for the most part) and which enables me to support myself.
- Continue to do my assignments on time
- Work from the office each day this month

Finances:  The goal is financial security.
- Continue budgeting and spending mindfully, with purpose - I am intending to make some major purchases, this month, but everything is an anticipated expense and has been budgeted for, so the spending will be done mindfully and with purpose.

Health & Well Being:  The goal is good health.  This will continue to be the focus, this month, as well, even though the mammogram results read "Normal".  The recovery continues!
- Attend the appointments with my various medical doctors and dentists - 3 scheduled, so far, in September: the primary care physician assistant (routine follow-up), the ophthalmologist (annual check-up), and the dentist (for an extraction)
- Continue to go for additional screening tests, as needed
- Continue to monitor blood pressure, sugar levels, and weight (now that my taste buds and appetite have returned!)
- Continue to focus on a healthier diet (more vegetables!), drinking enough water, exercising regularly, and getting sufficient sleep

Time Management:  The goal is having enough time to do all what I want to do!
- Organize myself and put routines into place so I have a more regular schedule.

Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies/Me-Time:  The goal is to relax doing something I enjoy doing for the pleasure of it.

- Do a few additional things from the Summer Joy list
- Finish the two quilts in progress

So those are my goals for September.  They are more or less the same as my previous monthly goals but that is OK.  Anyone else making monthly goals?

  1. From what I see, you're doing well accomplishing your goals. How do feel about them?

    1. Live and Learn, I feel I am doing quite well on some of my goals, such as the spiritual, financial, daughter, family & friends, etc.

Others, such as the environment, time management, health and well-being, and even leisure, I feel I am not where I would like to be. I struggle to meet those goals, month in and month out! Maybe I need to change those goals, but surely a clean and tidy house, a well-maintained garden, time to craft, etc. are worthy goals to strive for? But, I struggle with managing my time and energy. If I work on a craft, I can't garden. If I garden, I don't have time to do housework. If I do housework, then, the crafting doesn't get done. I need a longer day with more hours in it! LOL.

There are a couple of areas I used to have, too, such as "community" (volunteering at the temple, being involved with the neighborhood watch, etc.), which I took off because it became too much. Eventually, I'd like to add them back, when I feel stronger, have more time, etc.

  2. It is hard to do everything and do it perfectly which is why I don't. Maybe you can have your aims be overall aims and not daily goals, because time only goes so far.

    1. Anne, in my opinion, the main goals (a spiritually meaningful life, a clean and tidy house, a well-maintained garden, etc.) are the overall goals that I am striving to attain. The things I list under each goal are meant to be the steps I take towards attaining the big goals. It's a matter of, what do I want to achieve (e.g. a clean and tidy house) and how am I going to achieve it (having a regular cleaning schedule/routine, decluttering, organizing, etc.)

It maybe that I have too many things I want to achieve. I already reviewed my goals and made some adjustments, earlier this year. I will do another overall review at the end of the year and see if further changes are needed.

  4. No, I haven't listed monthly goals now for several months. I sort of, kind of, list a few plans for the week in my Daybook Monday. But now that it is September, I could definitely use some help in organizing my time. Hopefully this week I can write down a few goals to act upon.

    1. Susan, you've been busy with other things and you've been getting a lot accomplished with your garden. But, you've been mentioning preparing for Christmas a few times, lately. Finishing up the garden and preparing for Christmas might be good goals to start with.
