Remembering Mother

Mother

Today would have been my mother's 96th birthday, had she lived.

The picture above was taken when she was 70.  I'd love to look like that when I am 70!  I still remember the time when I had to take her to Urgent Care for some reason when she was in her early 80s and the doctor on duty came into the room, looked at her, apologized saying he was in the wrong room and went back out...only to come back a minute later, looking rather bemused, apologizing again for having made a mistake!  He said the chart said an 82 year old woman and my mother didn't look anything like what he expected an 82 year old woman to look!  :D

I like this picture of her.  It was taken during a happy time in her life.  Just after she had achieved her long-time ambition of seeing her daughter married, but before that marriage disintegrated.  It was a good time.  But then, with my mother, every day was a good day.  She believed in living each day to the fullest.  That was one of the many things she taught me.

  1. Bless, I remember reading your remembrances of your mom earlier this year and how I was touched by the love you expressed then. It still shines on, my dear. She was lovely and sounded like she was a lovely person as well. You were lucky to be her daughter.

  5. Oh Bless! Your mother is absolutely beautiful! I am recalling the picture you shared of yourself earlier this year and I see the same beauty in both of you. I am sure she must have had a beautiful heart as well because I see the beautiful heart within in her daughter and her granddaughter. Thank you for sharing her picture with us.
I understand the pain of losing a parent. I find comfort in remembering happy moments we had together and as I get older I realize the timeless wisdom in many things my father told me, things that I did not fully understand when I was younger, but as a parent now myself, I see things from a more clear perspective.
I am sure your mother would be so proud of you and of your daughter. You are both so loving and caring and I feel blessed to know you through this blog. :)

  6. Such a lovely photo of your mother. Hard to believe she was already 70 when it was taken. She had such a kind face.
