Friday in Review

I've had a relatively quiet day, today.  I called my supervisor in the morning and left her a message saying I'm back from my three days of sick time off and will resume work today.  She called me back a bit later, and was very happy that I felt well enough to continue working.  She forwarded several work files to me and I will be working on them for the next couple of weeks.  Even though I finish radiation on Monday, I will continue to work from home for a bit longer.

Today's radiation session went well.  Both technicians who attend to me reminded that Monday's session will be my last.  :)  However, I seem to be having more tummy trouble; apparently something I ate yesterday didn't quite agree with me!

In the afternoon, I put gas to the car.  Gas was $2.45 per gallon, today.   Later, my gardener friend came and tidied up the garden, a bit.  Lots of weeding to do.  Still later, I took a nap!

In the evening,  I did a little cleaning and paperwork.  The family room coffee table has now been cleared and dusted.  Later, I cooked dinner (steaks, baked potatoes, corn and broccoli; food is actually tasting good, again) and did the dishes.  I had been planning to make a banana bread for a couple of days now but hadn't got around to it.  Today, I went to make it, but the bananas were beyond being just over-ripe!  So I tossed the bananas.  Food waste, I know; I should have frozen the bananas when I knew I wasn't quite up to baking the bread, earlier.

Friday's To Do List:
- Go for radiation - DONE
- Email the office - DONE
- Put away the dried laundry - DONE
- Put gas to the car - DONE
- Clear the coffee table - DONE
- Bake banana bread (bananas were beyond being over-ripe!)
- Paperwork/filing - DID SOME

Saturday's To Do List:
- Clear small dining table in family room
- Clean my bathroom
- Water the indoor plants
- Paperwork/Filing

I'm keeping Saturday's To Do List short on purpose to give myself plenty of time to do stuff and still take adequate breaks.

Today, I am grateful for:
- #6 of 7 radiation treatments completed!
- The support of my colleagues and supervisors at work
- Afternoon naps
- Cooler temperatures
- Food is tasting good, again.

I don't have anything specific planned for tomorrow.  Daughter has been invited to a barbecue two of her friends are organizing.  I will do some tidying up and relax.

How was your Friday?  Have you any special plans for the weekend?

  1. Regarding your "tummy trouble" and considering the bananas you had to throw out because they were too old for even banana bread, I'm wondering if your problem is that you're trying to eat food that has been saved too long. Your taste buds may not have recovered well enough to tell you when food is spoiled. I try not to eat leftover food that is over 2 days old.

    1. You might be right, Marylynn, except I haven't eaten any leftovers in the last 3 days, but I have eaten out or eaten food from outside - Chinese food on Monday, Japanese food on Tuesday, Armenian food on Wednesday, etc. Any leftovers from those meals were finished by my daughter, the next day. I think my tummy was protesting all that rich food. Most probably it was the deep fried perashki; it was probably too oily for me. Anyway, whatever it was seems to have cleared system and my tummy is fine today. :)

  2. Another thought. Have you replaced your refrigerator freezer yet? The refrigerator not keeping food cold enough can be the culprit.

    1. No, I haven't replaced it yet. I've been freezing most of the leftovers, so nothing much that can spoil in the fridge. But yes, replacing the fridge is high on my list of things to do.

  3. I don't know what kind of tummy trouble you're having but could it be the broccoli? As I'm getting older, there are foods are have started seriously bothering me (at times very painful cramping and flatulence!) such as broccoli, plums... Greg can't eat nightshades (tomatoes or eggplant) without his stomach hurting a lot. Even green pepper usually causes pain for him.

I'm glad you'll still be working from home for a while after your last treatment. You need to ease up into a more regular office schedule a little bit at a time.

    Have a great weekend, Bless!

    1. Nathalie, yesterday, in the afternoon, I needed to go to the toilet several times. Later in the evening, however, it stopped. It was as if my system needed to get rid of something and once it was gone, it was fine.

I, too, can't eat bell peppers! I love the flavor they give to a dish, but I can't eat them without getting cramps and gas! Salads, too. Broccoli seems OK, so far. I've no problems with fruit.

I hope you have a good weekend, too.

  4. As hot as your house has been I hope you're thawing things out in the refrigerator and not on the counter top. Also, with it being so hot your refrigerator may not be staying cold enough.

    1. I tend to thaw things in the microwave, as it is quicker. And I've been known to cook things directly from frozen. My stomach is fine, today, so I think it was something I ate from outside. I'll make it a point to eat home-cooked meals, next week and see how things are.
