Feeling Better and More Grocery Shopping!

I am feeling much better, today.  It looks like I've recovered from the upset tummy.  Thank goodness for that!

I went for my radiation treatment in the morning and that went off quite well.  On my way home, I stopped by the pharmacy to pick up more of my prescription refills.

Then, since the grocery store is next to the pharmacy, I decided to go in for more bananas (I ate the last one, yesterday) and some fish.  I have not felt like eating any of the chicken, beef, and pork I have in the freezer, so thought some fish would be nice, instead.  I was hoping to find some trout and was happy to find a package of trout that was reduced in price because today was the last day of sale.  I also bought some beef neck bones to make soup, as I've been wanting soup, lately.

August 12 Groceries

August 12 groceries:

Soda = $3.59
Bananas @ $.69/lb = $.88
Beef neckbones = $3.11
Trout = $3.14
Total = $10.72

August grocery shopping spending to date:  $15.65 + $5.37 + $10.72 = $31.74

Amount left in the August grocery budget:  $88.21 - $31.74 = $56.47

After I came home, I put some rice to boil and cooked the trout.  I decided to poach it in lemon juice, some garlic/tomato/basil seasoning my cousin had given me, and a bit of salt and pepper.  The fish was done before the rice finished cooking!  Lunch was fish and rice.  Dinner, too, was fish and rice.  And there's enough leftovers for another two meals.    Banana for dessert.

The rest of the day was spent doing office work, taking a nap, talking on the phone with a cousin, an aunt, and a friend, video chatting with daughter, reading blogs, etc.

Plans for the weekend include cleaning the house and doing laundry.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Recovering from the upset tummy
- My skin has healed enough for radiation treatments to continue
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- Pleasant service staff at the clinic, at the pharmacy, at the grocery store
- Phone calls from cousin and aunt

How was your Friday?  What have you planned for the weekend?

    1. Thank you, Lyssa, I am feeling much better. It was a quick and easy way to cook the fish - add a little water as well as the lemon juice (I used the juice of 1 lemon) and cover the pan. I turned the fish over once or twice to make sure both sides were cooked.

    1. Thank you, Judy. Seems like I always want fish when I am recovering from any illness. :)

  3. Good to hear that your tummy has recovered. I sometimes buy meat when it is reduced for the last date of sale, if I am planning to cook it the same day. Also I like to buy "designer" breads when they are half price as I can put them straight in the freezer and they come out fresh later. I had one favourite bread that I would slice before freezing and then pull out a couple of slices for toasting. Haven't seen it lately. I try new items this way when I don't want to pay the full price in case we don't like the product.

    We have been to an estate sale this morning, a very old farm with lots of antique equipment. We didn't find anything to buy but it was interesting to see everything.

    1. The estate sale with the antique farm equipment sounds interesting! Some of us wouldn't even know what half that equipment would be, what they were used for, or how to use them!

  4. I'm glad you're feeling better and had an appetite! Greg went fishing this morning and I tagged along but he didn't catch anything. I was talking with my neighbor before we left and he was surprised to hear that I don't really care for catfish or bass anyway (I think they taste swampy) but I was telling him that I like trout and salmon. I haven't had trout in a while but I used to eat it when I was little. My grandmother would take us to a pond that was stocked with them and we'd "fish" them. There were so many of them, they jumped on the worms as soon as we put the poles in the water. I always think of that when I go fishing with Greg and he stands there for hours and rarely catches anything, lol.

    I took loads of flower pictures and then we came home and I've been doing stuff on the computer while watching some DVDs from the library and somehow I am exhausted! So leftovers is what's for dinner. I only have to cook a little bit of pasta.

    I hope you are having a great weekend, Bless.

    1. What a lovely memory of fishing with your grandmother! Trout and salmon are two of my favorite kinds of fish and what I have the most. No doubt the heat is making you feel tired. Leftovers for dinner sounds like a good solution. :)

    1. That's interesting that you enjoy fishing, but not your husband. Will he accompany you and read or something while you fish?
