August Grocery Shopping - Part 4

It's mid-month.  And I've already grocery shopped four times!  Yes, I ordered some groceries this afternoon and picked them up early evening.

There were a few things I needed: bread, milk, fresh fruit, more salad items, eggs (I was down to 3 eggs, which I used for tonight's dinner).

In addition, there were a few things I wanted, some of which were on sale with digital coupons, etc.: 7-Up, unflavored gelatin, yogurt, smoked sausages (sale priced on Saturday and Sunday only), plus a few items that were on a "back to school" sale.

I bought:

My total for everything came to: $66.24

Of which, $11.30 were for non-grocery items (2 cans of cat food for Dancer to try, aluminum foil, white glue for crafts, note books for daughter, plus tax on non-grocery items).

Groceries came to:  $66.24 - $11.30 = $54.94

August grocery budget = $250

Grocery spending to date = $38.17 + $15.24 + $44.18  + $54.94 = $152.53

Balance remaining in August grocery budget = $97.47

I think I'm doing okay with my grocery spending so far this month.

How are you doing with your grocery shopping and grocery budget so far this month?

  1. Our shops start "back to school sales" in the week BEFORE the summer term ends! I think it's silly

    1. Maybe they want to make sure you can enjoy the summer holidays without worrying about buying back to school supplies. :)

  2. You so so well with your budgeting, Bless. Those coupons must make a big difference.
I'm not giving my budget any thought for the next two days, but I'll be back on track by Tuesday. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules. I try to buy things when they go on sale (or on offer) as much as possible.
Enjoy the last couple of days of your break and there'll be time enough to get back to budgeting and meal planning, etc., afterwards. :)

    1. Thank you, Ratnamurti. Grocery prices are going up over here, but, I try to buy things when they are reduced in price. I am trying to feed two people for about half the monthly budget the government has estimated it would cost on their "Thrifty" food plan.

  4. I love back to school sales, but I don't need anything, so I'm resisting the urge to get more school/office things. :)

    1. I, too, love the back to school sales, June. I was careful to order only the items we needed (I'm down to half of my current bottle of white glue and daughter wanted the notebooks for her work notes). I might get some glue sticks, too, if the sale is still going on when I do my next grocery order (I've learned I can't stock up on too many of them at a time because they tend to dry out in our climate).

  5. You have some good bargains there. I did well at our farm market on the highway, only $2 for a pint of tiny tomatoes, $5 for a big bag of beans and $1 for a large zucchini and they are all organic.

  6. I think you are doing great with your spending this month.
I am not going to the store much so that cuts down the spending, but I did buy 10 pounds of ground chuck to stock up at the sale price.

    1. Thank you, Anne. Sounds like you found a good sale on the ground chuck. You did well to stock up on it. 80/20 ground beef is selling for $7.99/lb. currently. I am not planning to buy any ground beef at that price!

    1. Thank you, Linda. It's becoming harder and harder to stick to a budget, these days. But, I'm trying. :)
