Mid-Week Already!

Curry Leaf Tree: Then March 2025)

Curry Leaf Tree: Now (August 2025)

The curry leaf tree was pruned back in January and it has grown so well that M gave it a bit of a trim, earlier in August.

It's mid-week already as I write this and we are two-thirds of the way into August!  The days are going by quickly/

Monday was a stay at home day, and I did a bit of tidying up, cleaned the fridge, took the trash cans and recycling bins to the curb, and put water to part of the back garden.  I had stayed up most of Sunday night and slept only about four hours, so I took a long nap on the sofa in the afternoon.

Tuesday was a bit of an errands day.  I took daughter to the pharmacy during her lunch break to pick up some medications and we picked up a pizza on the way home.  Later in the evening, after she finished her work for the day, we went to the library.  June, at Live and Learn-Toss and Turn had posted some book reviews and, on Sunday, I requested one of the books she recommended,  The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan from the library.  The library emailed me on Tuesday to let me know that the book was ready for pick up.  Daughter came with me because she wanted to renew her library card and she picked two books to read, herself.

After we came home, I put water to the rest of the back garden.  M will be here, later, today, but, I wanted to make sure the garden got enough water.  The orange tree and the tangerine tree are not doing too well and I am hoping that keeping them well watered will help them.

I did another load of laundry which needs to be put away and cleaned the kitchen a little bit.  We had leftover pizza for dinner with Asian pears from the garden.  I had some yogurt and a granola bar afterwards and daughter had a plum, I believe.

Plans for Wednesday include going for a lab test and filling out some paperwork.

I am grateful for:
- Medical insurance
- Medications being available
- Libraries
- Water for the garden
- Working appliances

Joyful activities have included a trip to the library and spending time in the garden.

How is your week coming along?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. I didn't realize that you had a tangerine tree along with all of the other fruit. I hope it revives along with the orange tree.

    1. Thank you, June. Yes, it is the newest fruit tree, a satsuma tangerine, which we bought last year and planted in the ground this year, where the Fuyu persimmon tree was. I guess it isn't the best spot for a fruit tree since the persimmon tree died, too. I hope it will revive and grow well.

  2. I have a library book to finish by tomorrow - it is very in demand and they lent it out for 7 days only. It's a digital copy but I love going to get hard copies too. Is your daughter now job hunting too or can she work part time with the remaining funding for her job? I am glad you two can support each other and live together.

    1. The last library book I borrowed was an e-book which I read on my computer. I do like getting a "real" book, though.
My daughter is still working at her job, full time. I believe her employers are trying to find other funding sources and there is talk that salaries will be paid through November. Daughter really loves her job and is hoping that she can continue to work at her job, if she gets at least 50% of her time. Going down to 30% will not be sustainable in the long run. I'm happy to have her home and I know it will all work out.

    3. Thank you, jj. The uncertainty about the job is stressful, but, we are hopeful it will be okay. :)

  3. That is wonderful to see the curry leaf tree fully leafed again. It must be very healthy to come back like that after severe pruning.

    1. That curry leaf tree is thriving! Not only has it leafed out, it has sent up a whole colony of baby curry leaf trees! M keeps cutting them down, but, they are determined to grow!

  4. I repotted the lemon trees this afternoon, then given them a good water. I keep wondering if they'll produce any flowers next year.
I hope your lab test goes okay. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules.
I hope your lemon trees will do well in their new containers and flower for you, next year. Maybe even produce a few lemons! Wouldn't that be great?

  5. It's amazing how the curry leaf tree has leafed out from the pruning! I hope the orange a tangerine trees recover from whatever is wrong. Hopefully it's just water they need. The Amy Tan book looks interesting. I will see if our library has it.

    1. The curry leaf tree has really responded well, hasn't it? I've got baby plants growing all around it, too! M and I keep cutting them back; otherwise, we'd end up with a curry leaf forest! :D

  6. Thank God the temperatures are cooling down here in Montreal after such high heat and humidity. I am very grateful! Your tree is amazing!

    1. I'm glad your temperatures are cooling down, Linda. Ours are in the upper 90s, this week, and I am happy with those temperatures. The curry leaf tree has recovered nicely after being pruned. We use the leaves in our cooking.

  7. Some years ago, when I had very little money, I lived on dhal with curry leaves. The leaves were my greens as they were so cheap. Am very grateful to curry leaves

    1. Rice and dhal cooked with curry leaves is a complete meal, isn't it? Curry leaves are very nutritious and have a lot of health benefits from what I've read.

  8. It's always amazing to me how that curry tree sprouts from the bare trunk like that.
Isn't it nice that when you're retired and you've had insufficient sleep, you can take it easy and take a nap?
That's good your daughter got her library card back in order now that she lives in LA again.

    1. Not only did the curry leaf tree spring back, it sent up a lot of suckers, too! I'd end up with a grove of curry leaf trees, if M doesn't keep them under control.
I love being retired and able to sleep as and when I feel like it. :)
Yes, daughter can borrow materials from the library system down here, now.
