Saturday

Lahmajoon Compliments of Neighbor S and her Mother

Neighbor S called me on Saturday afternoon to say her mother was visiting her and had made lahmajoon (sometimes known as Armenian pizza) and would I like to have some.  I love their homemade lahmajoon so I said, "Yes, please" and S brought some over, still warm from the stove.  Daughter and I enjoyed them for our brunch.

Later in the afternoon, I replaced a stretched out elastic on the waistband of a long black skirt and ironed an outfit for daughter to wear to her friend V's birthday dinner.  They were going to a restaurant for a murder-mystery dinner.  Her friend V and V's husband gave daughter a ride to and from the restaurant.  Daughter wore a mask the entire time and brought her dinner home to share with me: salad, salmon in Dijon mustard sauce with potatoes, green beans, and carrots, and a piece of tiramisu for dessert.  Her friend V had given her own piece of tiramisu to my daughter to bring home to me, so we could each have our own pieces of tiramisu.

While daughter was gone, I did a load of laundry and then, spend a pleasant evening playing with fabric.  I am sewing together pieces of fabric from the scrap basket.  There is no pattern, as of now.  I am just sewing small pieces of fabric to make fairly large rectangles and squares.  Eventually, I will put them together to make a quilt top or, perhaps, a pieced quilt backing!  For now, I am sewing for the pleasure of it.  How it ends up is anyone's guess!

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- Neighbor S sharing her mother's homemade lahmajoon with us
- Daughter enjoying an evening out with her friends
- Daughter bringing her dinner home to share with me
- Her friend giving her piece of tiramisu to me
- Working appliances

Saturday's joyful activity was playing with fabric.

Plans for Sunday include putting in an order of groceries from the supermarket as daughter needs more half and half and I want more bread.  I'll also probably do a load of laundry, too.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

    1. Neighbor S does share the most delicious food and the lahmajoon were very tasty. I, too, am looking forward to seeing what my fabric piecing turns into! LOL. It'll be some sort of a scrappy quilt without a proper pattern, I think.

  2. I love Tiramisu!! Yesterday we were a a friends Retirement Event, then drove home 100 miles in the snow! Church this morning, and two granddaughters arriving later for a sleep over. Still very cold but no more snow today

    1. You had a long drive in the snow, yesterday! Enjoy the sleepover with the granddaughters, as I know you will. I am sure that Grandpa will be requested to make his famous breakfast pancakes in the morning!

  3. Sounds like both you and your daughter had a very nice evening. Playing with fabrics for fun...I relate. Not with fabric, for me it's yarn; but it's just fun to mix colors and not be tied into a specific pattern. The pizza looks yummy. Spotted you on a mutual friends blog and thought I'd pop in for a visit. It's always nice to meet new bloggers. And pretty exciting I got to be the first comment on your post. Do I win a prize, lol.

    1. Hello Sandy! Glad you popped in for a visit and you are very welcome to visit again. I love to play with yarn, too (I knit and crochet). I'm afraid two others commented before you, but, I moderate all the comments I receive and don't publish them right away. In any case, I don't give out prizes for being the first to comment! LOL.

  5. The lahmajoon looks delicious. I bought a new sewing machine recently, and have done a little sewing but only some napkins. I like the idea of piercing together scraps of fabrics, but I don't have any!. I also look forward to seeing what you create.

    1. Neighbor S's mother makes some really delicious lahmajoon.
Yay! A new sewing machine! I'm sure you'll enjoy sewing more and more items. Well, you might consider buying some fabric pre-cuts to get you started with piecing scraps of fabric! Or, you might find some pieces of fabric at a thrift store. Or, see if someone in your community is getting rid of their fabric stash. My scraps are leftovers from various sewing projects and what others have given me. :)

    1. It's a mixture of ground meat and tomato, cooked together with spices, and spread on flat bread and then, baked. Neighbor S's mother's homemade one are some of the best!

  7. The lahmajoon looks so good. I would eat that up right now if it were in front of me.
Oh the mystery dinner sounds like fun! Did your daughter solve the mystery? Is that how it works?
How nice her friend sent her piece of tiramisu home for you so you each had your own piece.
I wouldn't be a particularly good sharer of my tiramisu if I'm being honest. lol

The mystery dinner was fun, my daughter said. Their group of six shared a table with another group and each table was a team; there were actors taking part in the mystery seated among the guests and there were two murders to solve. People were encouraged to talk to other people at other tables to discuss what they had seen and thought, etc. Daughter and her team solved one of them, she said. But, they didn't win a prize. Apparently there was a gag prize for the team that came up with the most creative solution and a medal for those who guessed everything correctly.
It was very nice of her friend to send her piece of cake to me, wasn't it?

  8. Murder mystery dinner sounds amazing!

I love that idea of sewing for the sake of sewing - just sewing to bring you joy. Whatever you make with the result, you always have the pleasure of having sewn.

    1. My daughter said she enjoyed the murder mystery dinner; it was something fun and different to do with her friends.
My sewing the scraps together is a little like your knitting because you enjoy knitting. I'm just spending an hour or so doing something fairly mindless, yet, meditative. The end result will be used - one can never have too many quilts, I say!

  9. I'd have had no trouble putting that lahmajoon away, with a big side salad! I think I need an Armenian friend!

    1. The meat topping does contain tomato paste and canned tomatoes, so, I am not sure if you would find it acceptable (not sure if you just don't like the taste of tomatoes or you are allergic to them), but, it is a very tasty dish. :)

    2. Hmm, can't have it then. I like tomatoes, but they don't like me. I hoped the red stuff was pepper or chilli. Another of life's great disappointments! ;o)

    3. I'm sorry. There is some chili in it, but, most of the red color is from the tomatoes. I'm not sure if one can make the topping without tomatoes and still call it lahmajoon! But, one could try a tomato-less topping and see if it works.
