On Thursday

Dancer: "Don't bother me, I'm not going to smile for the camera"

On Thursday, I was up fairly early (for me, anyway) to take the car in for a service.  My appointment was at 9:00 a.m. and I was there in good time.  I was hoping that I could get away with an oil change and maybe a tire rotation, but, no, apparently, I needed several things, including the battery, checked and several things, including the air filters, a fan belt that was starting to crack, and front brakes, replaced, and something else that was due because it's been so many months since it was last done, etc.  Sigh.  Considering the fact that I don't drive my car a lot since I retired, there was quite a lot that needed to be done and it turned out to be an expensive service! They did arrange for a ride share to take me back home and another to pick me up to take me back to the service garage, so, at least, I didn't have to spend all day in their waiting area!  They normally only give a ride to the house (or office); you have to find your way back to the service center to pick up your car.

I spent some time in the garden after I came home, made a citrus drink with lemons and oranges from the garden, ran the dishwasher, replied to blog comments, etc.  Then, it was time to collect the car.

I must have been tired, because, after I came home and we had a late lunch, I fell asleep on the sofa while listening to the evening news!

After I woke up, I returned phone calls (both aunt C and friend R had called while I was napping), made tea for my daughter, cleaned Dancer's litter box, and wiped down the kitchen counters, stove top, and the front of the lower kitchen cabinets.  Dinner was leftovers.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:
- Being able to get the car serviced
- Getting a free ride both home and back
- Lemons and oranges from the garden
- Naps on the sofa
- Phone calls with family and friends

Thursday's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

Plans for Friday include doing a load of laundry, taking daughter to get the shoes her podiatrist recommended, and tending to the garden with M in the evening.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. That was a lot of things to find in the service. I've heard that things like batteries can be affected if cars aren't driven regularly. My great aunt used to schedule a longish drive once a week to keep the car maintained.

Dasher may not be smiling, but he looks wonderfully handsome. Please pass on gentle scritches.

    1. Yes, Lyssa, I've been told I should drive the car a bit more. I will have to go for some 'Sunday drives' from now on!
Dancer says thank you for the compliment and the scritches. :)

  2. Sorry about the car, but at least now you can feel you are all set (for a while!). Your gardens are so nice, and to get fresh fruit from them is great. andrea

    1. Thank you, Andrea; you are right, the car is now all set for a while and safe to drive. I love being able to pick fruit from my garden. Right now, it is the season for oranges and lemons. :)

  3. Unfortunately, some car parts wear out whether or not they get used much. Sounds like that was happening with your car. But it must feel good to have a car in safe working order despite the hit to the wallet. That's how I would console myself, anyway.

    1. Thank you, June, that's what I tell myself, too. The car is now in good working order and I don't have to worry about it breaking down while I'm on the road! Car maintenance is an anticipated expense and I budget a certain amount each month towards it; that budget builds up between service visits and doesn't get touched to cover grocery over spending, etc.!

  4. That's a classic "grumpy cat" photo! Poor Dancer.

    1. He had been napping and then, my daughter sat down next to him on the sofa and he was not amused. He is an old cat and likes to be left alone to nap. :)

    1. Yes, it turned out to be a major service, didn't it? Hopefully, the next service will be just an oil change. Dancer was definitely in his, "We are not amused" frame of mind!

  7. I'm chuckling at Dancer's face. He does look grumpy!
At least you know that the car has received a thorough service. It should be good for a while now. Xx

    1. He looks quite disgruntled, doesn't he? :D
Yes, I am thankful that the car had a thorough service and hopefully, nothing more will need to be done at the next service, other than an oil change.

  8. Oh gosh. Another car bill! It's a good thing you are a budgeter because these things do pop up don't they?

I need to catch up with what you've been up to. I hope you, your daughter and the little guy :) are doing well.

    1. Yes, a big car service bill. I do anticipate regular maintenance expenses, and budget for them. It's good to be prepared, right?
We are doing well, thank you. :)
