I ordered and picked up some groceries on Saturday, February 1. The price of eggs have come down by $1.00 and I knew I had to get another dozen before the price went back up, again.
Here's a look at my receipt:

The bill came to a total of $65.63.
Of which, $5,42 is for the tooth paste (5 x $0.99 = $4.95 + $0.47 tax = $5.42) and is not part of the grocery budget.
I will keep the cans of tuna as groceries, this time around.
So, total paid for groceries including snacks = $60.21
My February grocery budget is $200. Of which I had already spent $15.45 in January, leaving me with $184.55 available to spend in February.
Balance left in the February budget = $184.55 - $60.21 = $124.34
All I can say is, it's a good thing that February is a shorter month!
The price of eggs here continues to go up, but are about 1/2 the price of yours.
ReplyDeleteI think that eggs in California cost more because state laws require commercially sold eggs to be cage free. Not necessarily free range, but, even so, there was a lot of opposition from egg producers when the law went into effect.
DeleteYou do very well with your coupons. I went shopping earlier today. I didnt get a lot but I managed to get £10 off my grocery bill, which I was really pleased with. We'll be eating a roast chicken dinner this evening, and I'll make a risotto tomorrow night. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. I try to take advantage of the digital coupons and the store offers. Getting £10 off your grocery bill is great! Every little bit helps, doesn't it? A roast chicken dinner one night and a risotto the next sounds lovely. I have never made risotto!
DeleteWow! You do well with your shopping! I can't believe how expensive eggs are right now...so sad how that virus swept through the chickens. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diana. Yes, eggs are quite expensive these days, aren't they?
DeleteIt's good that you got the coupon sales and that the eggs were a dollar cheaper. I hope the prices won't start going up. We will be watching our prices, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I do try to take advantage of the weekly discounts and sales and then, plan my meals around what I buy. I am afraid that prices will go up, especially on the items we import. The strawberries I bought were produced in the US, but, the bananas and the grapes were imported.
DeleteNice that eggs are a buck cheaper than they were. Matter of fact, anything that is lower priced is a bonus now! I can't remember the last time I bought a chuck roast. They have kind of priced out of what I am willing to pay for them.
ReplyDeleteNow I am going to wait and see what exotic (to me) meals you prepare!
I never thought that I'd be happy to see eggs at $7.99/doz. but, I was thrilled that they had come down by a dollar! LOL. The chuck roast was the cheapest cut of beef that was available, this week. I plan to make a beef curry and a stir fry with the beef. :)
DeleteThose are some epic savings! You got a lot of food for your money and I bet it will see you through a good chunk of February. I am seriously impressed.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. I try to buy my groceries when they go on sale (or on offer, as you might say). For example, I only bought the strawberries because they were on sale with a digital coupon (and because my daughter loves them). I would have been reluctant to buy them at the regular price, unless as a special treat for my daughter. Same with the peanut butter. But, bread, eggs, milk, and half & half (called that because it is half milk and half cream) for my daughter's coffee are always bought as needed. :)
DeleteYou did really well with the sales! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. :)
DeleteYou got some good sale prices in this trip. The peanut butter especially.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little worried about your daughter's half & half supply since she only got a pint on the 1/31 shopping and I don't see it here. lol
I bought organic eggs for $9.99. Aldis was out of them which would've been only $6.49 had they been in stock.
We haven't had eggs for probably 2 weeks now so I paid the higher price. I can see just doing without them by choice for longer periods of time.
Thank you, Debra. I did buy half & half for my daughter on this trip, too - item #7, right below the eggs - you must have missed it. I am buying 1 pint containers for her because we have found that the 1 quart container tends to go off by the end. Sometimes, even the 1 pint goes off towards the end, probably because we get whatever "use by/sell by/best by" dated items, when we depend on the store staff to pick out the items, as opposed to going through the stock as finding one that has a longer "use by" date.
DeleteI have been paying whatever the asking price is for eggs and buying a dozen at a time (there's a limit of 2 containers per grocery purchases), but, I've been looking at egg substitutes for baking purposes.
