Mostly Sunny on Friday

Variegated Succulent

My blog post titles are starting to sound like a weather report, aren't they?   But, the rain has ceased and it was mostly sunny on Friday, lots of clouds in the sky.

I went for my blood test in the early afternoon and picked up one of my medication refills from the pharmacy on my way home.

Then, after eating a Jamaican meat pie for my brunch, I went to the Armenian grocery store to get fruits and vegetables for the most part.  I didn't buy any dairy or meat or fish.  Just fruit (apples, papaya, grapes, mandarins, blackberries, one avocado) and vegetables (Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, beets, carrots, lettuce, cucumber, yams, cassava) and chestnuts.  This store has a greater variety of fresh produce and at more reasonable prices than the supermarket, for the most part.  Of course, they do not offer curbside pick up, but, I wore my mask and I felt comfortable enough shopping there in person.  Today's shopping trip came to $28.17.

I met neighbor S's husband at the grocery store as he was there, shopping.  I think he does the majority of the grocery shopping in their household.  When I came home, I called neighbor S and told her that I saw her husband at the store and she laughed and said that he had just come home, himself, and the first thing he said to her was that he had seen me at the store.

M was already tending to the garden when I came home.  We chatted a bit and he did some weeding and tidying up in the back yard.

Then, I am afraid I took a nap on the sofa while listening to the evening news!  I guess I was tired.  I made a cucumber salad and daughter and I had leftovers for dinner.

On Friday, I was grateful for:

- Access to medical care
- The availability of medications
- Safe driving to the clinic, pharmacy, and grocery store
- M's help with the garden
- Working appliances

Friday's joyful activity was playing the piano after a long time of not playing it.

Plans for Saturday include meal planning and cooking; ironing something for daughter; and maybe doing some laundry.

How was your Friday?  Did you celebrate St. Valentine's Day?  What are your plans for Saturday?

  1. The rocks and succulents look good together. It will be interesting to see what the rain has done for your garden.

    1. Thank you, June.
I think the rain will bring up all the dormant weeds! LOL.

  2. I like the photo of the succulents in the "stonery". You did well to get such a variety of produce for that price. The Armenian store does seem to have good prices. I think our main supermarket would have charged $100 for all that!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady.
I need to do a grocery blog post, but, I got quite a variety of fresh produce for at least half the price I would have paid at the regular supermarket. :)

  3. How lovely for you to play the piano again. I'd forgotten just how often you used to play. Xx

    1. This particular store has a variety of fresh produce (they say it's why they have the word, "Produce" in their store name!) I tried to pick the vegetables that both my daughter and I will eat (she likes vegetables; I don't!)

  5. Big haul of fruit and veg! Are you aiming for 100 in a month?! Sounds as if you got a nice selection anyway. Must have been fun playing the piano.

    1. Yes, I picked up extra fruit and veg at my daughter's request. She loves vegetables.
I did enjoy playing the piano. Mostly old songs; need to go back to playing on a more regular basis. :)

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I feel happier when the sun in shining and it's a bright day. Although the rain was much needed. I need to go back to shopping at this store if I am to keep to my grocery budget!

  7. Oh that's such a pretty picture with the stones and the variegated succulents.
Today I had to chop a 4" layer of ice off of one of my pots of ajuga that hadn't drained and the poor plant was trapped in there!
I got a hammer and freed it but it's a sopping mess. I doubt it will recover but I did move it into an empty pedastal pot that will keep the bottom suspended to help with drainage. Hopefully it won't happen again. We are due some more bad weather later in the week.

What a nice shopping trip you went on buying all those wonderful fruits and vegetables. I am looking forward to reading about what you will do with them all.
My husband does the majority of the grocery shopping for our home. He always has. His father was the same way. My father-in-law knew the things specific to me that I liked buying at the store. Even when my husband and I were dating , his father would send a box full of the store items I favored home with my husband whenever he visited them.
I remember how touched I was the first time he did it. What a thoughtful thing to do.

    1. Thank you, Debra. That variegated plant was a cutting that M shared. It was in a pot which kept getting knocked over by the four-legged denizens of the garden, so, we planted it in the ground and put the stones around it to hold it in place. It seems to be doing well, now. Oh, your poor frozen plant! I hope it recovers well.
I enjoyed my grocery shopping trip and made it a point to walk up and down all the aisles, re-familiarizing myself with their prices. Friend R shops there and keeps telling me their prices have gone up and, yes, they have, but, they are for the most part, cheaper than the supermarket prices.
Your father-in-law obviously approved of his daughter-in-law! :)
