Rain on Thursday!

Raindrops on Blueberry Leaves

There was rain in the forecast for Friday (there still is rain on the forecast for Friday), but, it rained on Thursday, too!  The morning was mostly cloudy with the sun trying to shine through breaks in the clouds, but the rain clouds moved in during the late afternoon.

I was woken up by the sound of the phone ringing and, although it was identified as "suspected spam" and I didn't pick it up, I was happy to know that the phone was still working!  LOL.

In the afternoon, the pharmacy called to let me know that Dancer's medication was ready for pick up.  So, I drove to the pharmacy to pick up the medication and then, went to the doughnut shop next to the pharmacy and bought myself a treat!

Yum!

I enjoyed my doughnut and a cup of tea after I came home and then, watched the evening news.  It was then that I heard the rain and went outside to take a photo or two, with this month's monthly photo challenge theme of "weather" in mind!

One of the news items in the local news today was the announcement that my favorite dollar store will be closing!  All their stores in the four states in which they are currently located will be closed and liquidation sales will start as of Friday!  I was sad to hear that as I like shopping there and they have good bargains.  I'm glad that I was able to shop there when my daughter was here.  Daughter suggested that I go back and stock up on a few more of the items I regularly buy from them, but, I don't know if I will.  I feel so sorry for the store employees who will be out of a job, very soon.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- The availability of medications for Dancer
- Friendly pharmacy staff
- A safe drive to the pharmacy and back
- Rain for the garden
- Working appliances and equipment!

Thursday's joyful activity was eating a doughnut!  LOL!

Plans for Friday include paying bills and tending to the garden, provided it doesn't rain so hard that M will not be able to garden!  We had planned to divide and repot the aloe vera plant, but, it can wait until next week.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  2. Our dollar store is going to start selling things for $7. I'm not sure what that means, but I hope it doesn't make it too expensive for the people who really need to shop there.

    1. Yes, I read about that, too, June; apparently, they are switching to more multi-price items, ranging in price from $1.50 to $7 and capping it at $7 (for now, anyway!). Apparently they are seeing more higher income customers coming through their stores!

  3. Nice picture of the raindrops on your blueberries. Our forecast changed to no rain. It wasn’t windy anymore either, although the temperature was as low as 42 degrees Celsius.
Sorry to hear about the store closing. It will be inconvenient for you and very sad for the employees.
That is a delicious-looking donut. I like the classic chocolate iced donut too.
I had nice telephone calls from both daughters. I enjoy talking so much more than texting. Older daughter had a work suggestion implemented and the statistics were in showing a 20% reduction in customer assistance required, so she was pleased. She received the poetry book I sent for her birthday and loved it. Younger daughter had a presentation where she previously worked. She had been nervous about it. She called right afterward and was so happy with how well it went. She saw many old colleagues and was paid an honorarium. The stars aligned to give both girls some work success and joy on the same day.
Hope your leg and head are healing nicely. 😊

    1. Thank you, Taconix. Um, did you mean to say that the temp was 42 F? Because 42 C would be 107F and that's pretty hot!
How wonderful that you had nice phone calls with your daughters and they both received some work success and joy on the same day! It's so wonderful to know that the younger generation is doing well, isn't it? :)

  4. Oh, I am sorry to hear that you Dollar Store is closing. I hope you find another one. There are several where I live. The rain has been so wonderful for our California gardens.

    1. Yes, apparently the 99Cents Stores are closing all of their stores in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas. There is a Dollar Tree near by that I can go to (they are raising their prices, too, apparently!), but, I really liked the 99Cents stores!
The rain is wonderful for the gardens, isn't it? Unfortunately, it has caused much damage to some roadways and hillside homes, etc., but, the gardens are green!

  5. Not part of my Friday plans, but we had an earthquake this morning. I and several neighbors ran out, all wondering what happened. We got an emergency alert afterwards, notifying us about the quake. You (and the rest of California) would probably have laughed at us, but for the Bronx, this was a huge event. No damage, just a lot of excitement. 🫣

    1. Oh, no! Not an earthquake! Just read online that it was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake, which is moderate, but, even the smallest of earthquakes can cause a lot of shaking and damage, especially in areas that are not used to earthquakes and don't have building codes designed to make structures safer during a quake! Glad you didn't have any damage!

  6. I wonder which is best, planned doughnuts, with that feeling of anticipation, or spur of the moment doughnuts? Seems to me they are both a treat either way. Too bad about the dollar store chain closing, just when you were starting to get back into shopping there. It might be worth checking out the liquidation sale if you feel comfortable.

    1. Doughnuts are almost always delicious whether planned or spur of the moment! The only time when I didn't like doughnuts was when I was having chemo and I didn't like the taste! I was so disappointed!
Yes, I'm sad that the dollar store is closing; they had good bargains. I might go back next week and see if I want to stock up on certain things like gift bags and more flower pots.

  7. Your doughnut looks very tasty. What a shame your dollar store is closing. Our Poundlands don't sell much for a pound anymore but at least they are still trading but I bet their footfall has dropped, may as well buy what we need from the supermarket.

    1. The doughnut was very tasty! Yes, it is a shame that the dollar store is closing. There were people who shopped there for essentials because some items were cheaper than at the grocery stores; I enjoyed the bargains. But, all good things must come to an end, I suppose.

  8. Hello you gorgeous doughnut. You're very pretty :)
And I know you were very much enjoyed during your brief stay lol
That's too bad about your Dollar Store. Is there another one not too far away maybe?

    1. It was a lovely doughnut and much enjoyed! :D
That whole chain of dollar stores, with stores located in four states, is closing; the company filed for bankruptcy. There is another chain of dollar stores that is still open, but, they've raised their prices, too. There are very few items that are $1 anymore!
