More Rain on Tuesday

Raindrops on Roses

We had lots of rain last night and early this morning.  Then, around 11:00 a.m., the rain ceased quite abruptly, as if someone turned off the shower.  I went out to bring in the trash cans once it stopped raining and I took a couple of photos, including the one above.

Today was a low energy day for me.  I felt cold even with the heater on (I am all bundled up, too, with a long sleeved blouse and two sweaters, a pair of sweat pants, socks, and a scarf) and I didn't feel like doing any housework.  I did polish two of the three brass items I had wanted to polish and put them back in place (they are wall plaques).  Later, I mended an article of clothing for M.

I played Sudoku and some word games, watched a few online videos, chatted with friend R, and, highlight of the day, sang online karaoke with my daughter!  I sang very out of key, but, it was fun!

I had half a bagel, toasted, with butter, for breakfast and for lunch, I made some fried rice with leftover rice, the last leftover Italian sausage, some shredded lettuce, and an egg scrambled into it.  My daughter said it was tasty.  For dinner, I followed my meal plan.  I asked my daughter to make a teriyaki sauce, which she did, following a recipe she found online.  Then, I cooked a pot of rice, made a stir fry with carrots and some homegrown snow peas that I had frozen, and reheated some chicken drumsticks that I had previously sauteed and frozen.  I added some of the teriyaki sauce that daughter had made to the chicken drumsticks and it made a good dinner.  There is one portion leftover for lunch for one of us.  I had listed mandarins for dessert, but, I cut up a mango and we shared that, instead.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Rain for the garden (although it has caused quite a lot of damage in various parts of the state)
- A working heater
- Hot water on tap
- My daughter is able to work remotely from home
- Being able to have a relaxed day

Today's joyful activity was singing with my daughter!

Plans for tomorrow include tending to the garden with M, doing a load of laundry, and tidying the family room.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. :) We sang some Broadway songs, some Disney songs, a few 70's pop songs that we both like. :)

  2. Such a beautiful rose & yes I started inside my head in spite of myself singing that song from Sound of Music (lol). I saw on the news some of the flooding & landslide devastation in northern California. Hopefully you'll warm up today with time in the garden.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; sorry about the ear worm! We are having a couple of dry days before the next rain storm that is due to arrive over the weekend! It felt warmer in the sunshine, outside; M and I planted more snow pea seedlings. :)

  3. Such a pretty rose with the rain drops on it. The leaves of the rose look very healthy.
It's no wonder you had a laid back day after all the housework you've been doing - you deserved it. It must be rewarding to get your brass all polished and shiny.
I took down the tree yesterday. The living room is all nice a fresh and tidy. All the stuff is upstairs in the guest room and I will pack that away today. It's not that much really after my years of decluttering so it won't take me long. I have one tub for decorations and one tub for ornaments and that's it.
I've started my decluttering list for January and added a few things yesterday.
I entered a small pick up order for a few grocery items for later today, made a pot of black bean soup this morning and have a load of laundry going into the dryer as soon as I finish typing this.
Then I will go upstairs and put away the Christmas stuff.
My afternoon will be free! :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. Both M and I love that rose plant - I bought it as a bare root rose, many years ago; I didn't keep the name tag and have no idea what it's called, but, it has been growing well for me.
With housework, I find that I might have one good day and then, not have the energy to do much the rest of the week. Which is why I try to get as much done on the good day.
Sounds like you've had a productive day. Hope you enjoyed your free afternoon!

  4. I started singing as soon as I saw your photo caption, "Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens..." :) I know what you mean about being cold all day. Sometimes that happens to me and the only thing that will warm me up is a hot shower. Otherwise, I bundle up and find a blanket and a cat. That helps, too.

    1. It's funny how that particular phrase have many of us singing that particular song, isn't it? Hot showers are a good way to warm up. Dancer is not a lap cat, but, he will consent to sit next to me on the sofa from time to time. :)

  5. Well the karaoke sounds like fun. Did the neighbours complain about the out of tune singing? When I did my teacher training one of the choirs at the college was the Tone Deaf Choir ... I wasn't allowed to join it because I can sing in tune ... but they had plenty of 'singers' and regularly performed with their own unique out of tune sound in the city centre. You had to hear them to believe it! xx

    1. The karaoke was a lot of fun and no, the neighbors did not complain! :D They sing out of tune all the time when they have their parties and they do so with a mic and amplifiers! I rather like the idea of a Tone Deaf Choir! :D

  6. It sounds like a good, fun day! I wish I could have karaoked with you!! I hope that you are feeling recharged today, and were not sickening for something.

Gosh, what a lot of rain! I do hope that your local lakes and reservoirs are filling up in anticipation of the sort of summers you have been having lately. I remember being in Sydney during a drought and then when the rain came (as soon as I arrived - ha!) hearing that all the water discharged into the sea! Noooooo!

    1. It was a fun day and I, too, wish you could have joined us in the karaoke singing. I'm feeling better, today - not coming down with anything, but, not feeling like doing a lot of cleaning, either!
Unfortunately, a lot of the rain that we receive will flow directly to the sea! Some might seep into the ground to replenish the groundwater basins, but, this time the rain is coming down too fast to be absorbed. I was thinking that this should have been the year for me to invest in a rain barrel, but, I didn't; maybe I'll prepare for next year.

    1. Thank you, Nil; I'm OK, but, I think Stephenie had some water come into her cottage.

  8. I'm glad the rain stopped. Are you in an area affected by all the rain?

There is a certain temperature it hits where I can't seem to get warm no matter. I hate it when it gets like that. Glad you were able to enjoy singing with daughter!

    1. There is a short break in the rain, right now, until Saturday, when the next band of rain storms are expected. My particular area is not too affected other than some intersections that always get flooded no matter how much or how little rain we get, but, there were reports of downed trees in an adjoining neighborhood.
I get cold very easily, anyway, but, yesterday, I felt really cold. I eventually warmed up, though. It was fun singing with her. :)

  9. How healthy that rose looks after all the rain! I guess you needed a rest after your hard work the previous day, but that's the way it goes, and feeling cold means needing to snuggle up and relax! I was busy today, changing the bed and washing the sheets and I needed to go to the grocery stores for a few things (I was too lazy to leave the house yesterday!). I like your karaoke session, it must have been fun!

    1. The rose does look happy to have received some rain, doesn't it? I was just not feeling up to doing anything much in terms of housework, yesterday (besides, daughter had back to back zoom meetings all day, anyway, so I didn't want to be making a lot of noise in the background, vacuuming, etc.) Today was a bit better (although I didn't do a lot of housework).
You had a busy day! Is this the weekend your son and family are scheduled to visit?
Singing with my daughter was a lot of fun. We really should do more of it!

  10. Rain often results in low energy on my part. I guess I really need the vitamins the sunshine provides.

    1. I, too, feel more energetic on sunny days, I think. But, there are some sunny days when I feel low on energy. Not quite sure why, but, I just try to get more done when I feel energetic and do just the minimum on the low energy days. :)
