Filing Taxes on Wednesday

WPSH #19: An Alley - Part 1
WPSH #19: An Alley - Part 2

The alley behind the tax accountant's office - standing by the parking lot gate and Part 1 - looking to the right, Part 2 - looking to the left!  I had been waiting to photograph an interesting looking alley, but, with today being probably the last day I'll be going out for several weeks to come, I thought this was going to be my best opportunity to get a photo for the current photo scavenger hunt!  Six more photos to find!

We had a nice, clear, sunny day, today!  I was happy for an opportunity to dry out before the next storm front moves in.

Today, I went to my tax preparer's office and got my taxes filed and she also did my daughter's taxes and emailed the documents to my daughter for review.  However, she gave the actual forms for daughter's signature to me to mail them to her.  Daughter will sign them and send them back to her.

I came home after the tax appointment and had some lunch - leftover spaghetti.  Then, I went to the post office and mailed the forms to my daughter.  I also bought a new book of stamps while I was there.  Then, I came home, had a cup of tea, and watched the evening news.

Around 6:00 p.m., since it was still sunny and clear, I went outside and walked a bit - just up and down my driveway and along the sidewalk in front of my house and neighbor T's.  In fact, the path I walked made a "T"!  Hardly anyone was outside - just another neighbor's grandchildren playing in their front yard across the street from me.  I walked for about 20 minutes and got some fresh air and a little sunshine.

Later, M brought me the kitty litter.  He had called me, earlier, from the store, to say they only had one 30lb. bucket, but, they had several 40lb. bags and if he should just buy the one bucket or did I want the bags.  I said to get the bags and buy two of them.  He brought them over and I reimbursed him.  I now feel I am well stocked up on the kitty litter!

For dinner, I roasted the beef roast I bought on Monday.  Someone at the store had mislabeled it as chicken wings, which were on sale, and priced it at $1.29/lb!  I paid $3.24 for a 2.5 lb. beef roast!  Regular price on beef roast was $4.99/lb!  I had some of it with green beans and carrots for my dinner.  I will cut up the rest and freeze it for later meals.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny day
- Getting the taxes filed
- M getting me the bags of cat litter
- Video chatting with my daughter
- Phone calls with family and friends

Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter and phone calls with family and friends.

I haven't been doing my regular house cleaning these past couple of days.  I've been too distracted with all this other stuff going on.  I am hoping to get back on schedule, tomorrow.  I also need to do a freezer inventory and process some of the fresh vegetables I bought and freeze them.  This is definitely not the time to leave things in the fridge to spoil!

How was your day?  How are your shelter-in-place preparations coming along?

  1. Glad to hear you got out side for some distraction & fresh air. I think you are correct, now is particularly a good time to stick to routines as much as possible. This self isolation is going to be a long two weeks for some - we can do this, it is so necessary.

  2. We really don't go out much. Our highlight of our day is the daily walk, which is refreshing. Nice that you got your taxes done and enjoyed the sunny day! Andrea

    1. Thank you, Andrea. That daily walk is a good thing, isn't it? Fresh air and exercise! :)

  3. Your photo of the alley is indicative of the times we are in. It looks so empty and desolate...very eerie.

I experienced those feelings of distraction and restlessness over the weekend. When I finally realised my next steps, I was like you and did a freezer and pantry inventory. That helped me decide to process the food I did have (I will not be going out any more) and I prepared most of what I have for the room that was available in my small fridge freezer. I didn't bring my chest freezer with me in the move and wishing I had now. I will be looking for one now before the Fall, as I plan to grow a garden this summer.

Besides making bread and yoghurt as I need them, I think I am prepared now. There is no excuse now not to do some housecleaning and crafting. *sigh*

    1. I have a side-by-side fridge/freezer. It can hold quite a bit, provided I organize it properly. Yes, I am planning to stay home from now on. I might make a trip to the drive-thru window at the bank to deposit a check I received in the mail. But, that should be OK, I think.

You are right - we have no more excuses for housework and crafting and piano practice (for me!). LOL.

  4. I am waiting for a supermarket delivery tonight and then I can close the door and begin self isolating. Both of my nephews have offered their help if I need it so I'll be alone but not alone if you know what I mean - their offer of support means a lot, even though I hope I never have to ask them.

Well done on the walking ... give yourself a pat on the back. I'm glad your got your supply of cat litter topped up and that you are starting your self isolation. I like your alley photos. Did you see my new post about the WPSH?

    1. I'm glad you are all ready for self isolating, Eileen, and to know that you have offers of help from your family, if needed. Yes, I know what you mean - we may live by ourselves, but, we are not alone; there are people we can call on for help if needed, even if we try our best not to ask for that help! LOL. It is so hard for me to ask others (other than my daughter) for help!

Thank you; I plan to walk in my own garden or driveway, every day, weather permitting. The distance and speed won't matter, but, I shall try to walk for 20 minutes, minimum.

Yes, I saw your WPSH post. Thank you for extending the deadline and the alternatives! :)

    1. Yes, it is pretty, isn't it? Today, it is grey skies and rain! But, the rain is good for the garden, so I am glad.

  6. Oh good - I'm glad you got your taxes done. It's a good feeling to have that done every year. I finished mine a couple weeks ago and got my small refund deposited into my checking in less then a week!
    That was speedy.

I went to the grocery store this morning. I am now questioning myself about doing that.
Truthfully I would've been fine without going. It's just that we don't know what the future is going to bring and that's creating the worry and uncertainty. For me anyway.

I haven't been out since Sunday morning and I took all the precautions
(and I'm very glad to stock up some more)
    But Still.....
At what point do we just not go anywhere and just stay home?

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, I'm glad I was able to get the taxes done! One less thing to worry about!

I'm glad you were able to stock up a bit more and I hope that you didn't compromise your health while doing it. That is the worrying thing for me. It is so hard to decide when to stay home and not go out at all, isn't it? My daughter did so as of Monday evening - she made one last run to stock up on a couple of items she will be needing as a young woman and has stayed in her apartment ever since. I am planning to do so from today. But, I received a check in the mail that needs to be deposited, so, I might use the drive-through window at the bank to do that. I think, by staying in the car, I will be minimizing any risks. My daughter will arrange for my medications to be delivered to my house - I had resisted doing that until now, preferring to pick it up in person because there have been some problems with getting my medications from time to time. I think the sooner we stay home, the more we do to help prevent the rapid spread of this virus.

  7. I'm having a blog catch up and I'm relieved to read you are keeping safe and well. It must be reassuring to know you have your taxes filed and that you now have enough cat litter to last a while. M is a good friend. It's quite sweet that so many people I know seem more concerned about their pets than themselves.
Schools have closed here now, so I will be home schooling Lily for as long as she needs. She appears completely unfazed by the situation but we are fortunate that we can still get out and about. Like your daughter, eldest is also working from home at the moment. I love how you still have your end of work chats. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Yes, I'm glad I got the taxes filed and have stocked up on everything that Dancer and I might need. :)

That's good to know that Lily is taking it in stride. I think she will adjust well to being home schooled. Are you working from home, now?

Yes, the end of work chats are important to me. :D She always shared her school days with me - I'd get a blow by blow account of her day, right through high school and even when she was at university. She continued to do that when she started working, too, and I look forward to her daily reports. :)

  8. The view of the alley part 2 looks more inviting to me, because of the hedge and trees!
It is harder to get into house cleaning because of the strange mood of the times. I suppose we will adjust, but the need to phone and e-mail seems to take precedence. I did do some cleaning yesterday and I've been basting some wide bias tape onto the long edges of two bath mats which were frayed, ready for machining. I didn't even know I had just that right amount of tape until I started hunting for something suitable. Goodness knows what other things I have hidden away!

    1. Yes, alley part 2 is more visually pleasing, isn't it? I might choose that as my final selection.

I seem unable to settle down to do any housework! I, too, have been on the phone and texting family and friends to check on them. I need a nap, I think!

How lucky that you had the right amount of tape you needed in your stash! I hope you make many more happy discoveries like that! :)

  10. I hadn't heard the term shelter-in-place before. It sounds a little nicer than self-isolating! I had a box of cans etc in preparation for the expected food disruption around Brexit, so I know I can make meals for 3 weeks.

    1. It does sound better than self-isolating, doesn't it? I'm glad you have your Brexit box to see your through the next few weeks. Hope, too, that you are feeling better. Hope Bob is well, too.

  11. There’s broom in the first photo of the alley. The shadow of the wall and the power pole ! LOL

I’m glad you got taxes done, and have a stockpile of kitty litter.

Today I cleaned a section of the back fence. I just learned that we will be teaching online for the remainder of the semester. I have 11 days to get ready!

    1. Ha, ha, now that you've mentioned it, I can see the "broom" clearly!

Thank you, Nil. I feel better for having the taxes done and the kitty litter stocked!

You've been busy in the garden! I hope the preparations for online classes go smoothly! It's a good thing you've had some experiencing doing so, with that other online class you prepared, earlier.
