Crocheted Rag Rug |
Today, I finished the rag rug I had been crocheting. I first started making this rag rug back in 2016! I posted about it, here, and here. Originally, it was going to be an oval rug. Unfortunately, I didn't like how it was turning out and it sat, unfinished, in a bag in my closet, making me feel guilty every time I saw it! A couple of weeks ago, I undid what I had done until then and started over! I decided to make it a round rug, instead and have been working on it almost daily, until it measured 3 feet across. I have more fabric I can cut up to make it bigger, if I like, but, I think this is a good size and I might still be able to fit it inside the washing machine to wash it. I put it on the floor near my daughter's bed as an area rug for her room for now. If she doesn't like it, I can put it in the guest room. The fabric I used was given to me by a former neighbor.
I didn't feel too well when I woke up, this morning, for some reason. I might have been dehydrated, because I felt rather light headed. Or, perhaps my sugar level was low. So, after having my morning tea and responding to blog comments, I went back to bed to lie down for a bit. I didn't fall asleep, but, I lay in bed and rested for a little over one hour and got up when I felt better. I wasn't very hungry, but I had a snack lunch and a banana.
Shortly after that, my daughter called to ask my advice about something. I was inordinately happy to think that she still valued my opinion and asked my advice. LOL.
Then, I did the dishes and wiped down the kitchen counters. That was the extent of my cleaning, today. But, that's OK. One of the nice things about having a weekly cleaning schedule is, you know that if you skip one week, things will get taken care of the next week.
Later, went through today's mail. I had received my neighbor's mail, as well, so, I called her and went over to give them to her.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening relaxing, watching various news programs on TV, and crocheting my rag rug. M came by in the evening and planted the cuttings he brought earlier and watered the back garden for me. Dinner was the last of the leftovers from my lunch on Monday (and now, I have more dishes to wash!).
Today, I am grateful for:
- Feeling better after a rest
- Finishing yet another work in progress!
- M tending to the garden for me
- Cousin P calling for a phone chat
- My daughter calling to ask my advice
Saturday's To Do List:
- Catch up on the cleaning that didn't get done on Thursday and Friday!
How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend? Have you made any rag rugs?

I love the rag rug. My grandmother used to make them and now I am very sorry I never took the time to learn how to do them.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. This one is crocheted, but, you could make a braided rag rug, too. Just make the braid with fabric and then, sew it to form the rug. I'm sure you'll be able to find tutorials online.
DeleteThe rug looks lovely. Well done for finishing it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. :)
DeleteI love the rag rug. Was it difficult to make? X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. It wasn't difficult, but, it would have been easier to make the strips if I had the gadget that folds the fabric as you pull it through.
DeleteI don't see many rag rugs these days. Glad you are keeping up the tradition.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was one way to use up an abundance of fabric that was given to me. :)
DeleteYour rag rug is beautiful. Did you use t-shirt strips, or regular cotton fabric?
ReplyDeleteI’ve made a braided rag rug using old t-shirts. One day I want to crochet one. 😊
Thank you, Nil. I used regular cotton fabric, but, t-shirt strips would have been better as they have more elasticity and easier to work with, I think.
DeleteGlad you were feeling better when you woke up...people don't realize how easy it is to get dehydrated sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLove the rug -colors are beautiful.
It is always nice to know our children still think we have our senses about us and can ask advice. lol xo xo xo Diana
Thank you, Diana. I seem to have a history of getting dehydrated! I don't always drink as much water as I should. Yes, it is nice to know that our children still look to us for guidance. :)
DeleteThank you for the photo. Wow. You did such a great job on this rag rug and you must be gratified to have completed yet another project that has been waiting your attention. Well done. I love the look and feel of rag rugs. They feel so homey. That is a great size for a bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you weren't feeling up to snuff and hope that you are feeling better soon. Your place is immaculate, so I wouldn't worry about the cleaning routine being put on the back burner for a few days. Unless the cleaning fairies visit you through the night, the house will wait for you to feel better. Take care of yourself.
Thank you, Susan. I am glad that I was able to finish that project. I'm so good at starting things and not always finishing them!
DeleteThank you; I hate feeling not quite 100%, yet, not being ill either. I had so much energy, last week, and this week, I feel like a washed out rag!
Oh, I like the rag rug - you are a woman of many talents! I've never made a rag rug but did make braided place mats as a child. I want to make some mats for the bathroom and ensuite so this is on the list.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you were feeling unwell first thing but glad that a bit more rest did the trick and you felt better later on.
Thank you, Eileen. I look forward to seeing the mats you make.
DeleteI am planning to take it easy and get some rest this weekend and hopefully, I'll be fine, again, next week.
Wow,the rug is so pretty abd unique, I love things like this, priceless!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalia. :)
DeleteThat is such a lovely rag rug and I think there is something rather comforting about having a rug like that in the home.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you listen to your body and rest when you are not feeling quite up to snuff. I hope you had a good day today.
We had breakfast with friends this morning and then I picked up some things in the grocery store. I'm not stocking up much against Covid 19 issues, rather just making sure we don't need anything if we get snowed in Monday and Tuesday (according to the forecast). But it doesn't hurt to have extra staples in for possible emergencies either, as you well know, living where you are in an earthquake zone.
I've been moderating squirrel wars today, they really are silly how they fight even when they already have their peanuts in their mouths.
Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, apparently, I was dehydrated and, when that happens, my blood pressure goes down and that's when I feel not quite right. I am drinking more water and have been checking my pressure from time to time.
DeleteIt doesn't hurt to have a few extras on hand, Bushlady. I try to think a bit longer term - what if stores are closed for whatever reason? Always good to have enough on hand to keep one going for several days if not weeks.
Those squirrels are too funny! Make sure you have enough peanuts for them when you are stocking up!
I hope you feel better! Your crochet looks wonderful. I gave up trying to learn. I couldn't hold the hook properly and ended up getting really frustrated. Mum was the same lol. I might try again one day
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I believe I was dehydrated, which causes my blood pressure to drop and then, I don't feel too good! I've been making it a point to drink more water, today.
DeleteI've noticed that there are a couple of different ways to hold a crochet hook. I guess I hold my crochet hook using what they call the knife hold, as if using a knife (as opposed to the pencil hold). I am not sure who taught me how to hold the crochet hook, though.
Your rug is gorgeous! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. :)
DeleteI really like your rug. I've never made one.
ReplyDeleteWhat size hook did you have to use? It must've been huge.
Thank you, Debra. I used a size N/10mm hook.
