March 10 Groceries |
The weather forecast was correct! We've had rain showers, on and off, all day! At times, just a light drizzle and, at times, fairly heavy rain. Of course, one of the downpours timed perfectly with my arriving at home after grocery shopping! By the time I finished lugging in the last of the groceries, the rain slowed down to a misty fine drizzle!
But, I had left the house a little after noon when there was a break in the rain and even a little bit of sunshine. In fact, I thought I had picked the perfect time to run errands!
I went to the bank, first, and then, to the adjoining Armenian grocery store. I went there mostly because they had my favorite brand of rice on a one day sale, today, only. I have come to the end of my white rice (still have some red rice) and had been waiting for a sale to stock up. I bought a 10 lb. bag for $8.99. Then, while I was there, I bought a few other groceries, too! Plus two gallons of drinking water (not pictured) because I wanted to replenish my emergency supplies of bottled water and I bought two gallons of white vinegar that was on sale to have on hand for cleaning purposes (I want to make more orange cleaner, for example).
I bought:
2 x 1-gal. bottles of water @ $.99 + $.10 deposit = $2.18
2 x 1-gal. bottles of white vinegar @ $2.69 = $5.38
1 lb. ground beef (15% fat) = $3.49
1 lb. shrimp @$4.99/lb = $5.04
Onions @ 3lb/$1.00 = $0.61
Snow peas @ $2.99/lb = $0.27
Green beans @ $1.29/lb = $0.62
Broccoli @ $.99/lb = $0.44
Small Mediterranean cucumbers @ $.99/lb = $0.49
Tangerines @ $.49/lb = $0.58
Grapes @ $1.29/lb = $1.86
1 lb. strawberries = $.99
Potatoes @ $.49/lb = $0.98
2 packets of hazelnut wafers @ $.50 = $1.00
6 oz. packet of sesame seeds = $1.99
2 cans condensed milk @ $1.69 = $3.38
1 container salt = $1.39
10 lb. bag rice = $8.99
Total = $39.68
3/10 Grocery Receipt |
I will probably go over my grocery budget, this month, but, that is OK. Some of the items I am buying, the rice, for example, will last me for several months.
After I came home, I had a piece of yesterday's pizza for lunch. Then, I put away the groceries, dusted the family room and my bed room, watered the houseplants, watched the evening news, changed the dust sheets on the family room sofas, and did a load of laundry. Later, I cooked the shrimp I bought - I made a stir fry with half of them and a curry with the other half.

Yum, I love shrimps and any types of stir fry, such a good meal!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalia; a stir-fry is one way to make sure I eat my vegetables! :)
DeleteYour grocery haul looks so healthy with all of those fresh veggies and fruits. I am looking forward to summer when I can enjoy more local produce, especially the vegetables that I will grow myself. But for now, I will enjoy all the frozen produce I can buy. Besides, all the prep is already done (washing, peeling and chopping). Uh...there were no pictures of Dancer. Was he too tired to do a proper inspection of the groceries?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your daughter's work is already making preparations for social distancing. That alone will take some of the burden of stress off the both of you.
Thank you, Susan. I am trying to eat more healthily, although it doesn't always work. LOL, Dancer was there, inspecting the groceries even while I was taking them out of the bags! I pushed him away to take the picture!
DeleteYes, I am very relieved that my daughter's office is making preparations. Her work place is affiliated with the university. So far, the university hasn't said anything, but, if it says to close down, then, her office will have to comply.
That's good news that you daughter will be able to work from home if it becomes necessary. One less thing to worry about.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same with the weather ... always think I've timed it between showers and then get caught in the worst of it. We have a lot in common!
Yes; at least, that way, she'll minimize her risk of exposure to the virus (she takes public transit to and from work) and still get paid!
DeleteHa, ha, well, at least, it doesn't rain all that often, here! So, getting caught in the rain is almost a novelty. But, I thought it was funny that the rain ceased just when I had finished unloading the groceries! :D
Your shrimp stir fry looks really good.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had rain. Yesterday I thought it would rain, so without watering plants I took a nap. It didn't rain. :(
Thank you, Nil. It was good to have some rain; I hope you get some rain, soon, yourself. :)
DeleteHi Bless, I sat out on the porch with Lula yesterday and we enjoined the rain together. Like you, I went grocery shopping. I stocked up on staples at Costco and Food For Less. What a good feeling to have a full pantry. Today I will get more water. You sound great!
ReplyDeleteOh, sitting on the porch with Lula and enjoying the rain sounds like such a lovely thing to do. :) That's good that you were able to stock up. Yes, it is a good feeling to have a full pantry, isn't it? I hope you were able to get your water - I went to Smart and Final today and they were all out of their bottled water!
DeleteGood shopping...great prices. Your meal looks delicious. Sorry about the rain's timing...lol that always seems to happen. But great that you are getting rain! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. Yes, I'm very happy to get whatever rain we get! I won't have to water my garden, this week!
Deleteanother fruitful day. I was wondering how you make your orange cleaner?
ReplyDeleteRatnamurti, I just put orange peels into a glass jar and add white vinegar to it and keep it for a couple of weeks. Then, I strain the vinegar into a spray bottle and discard the orange peels. I did a post about it, a few years ago:

That shrimp looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI just ate but it made me hungry again lol
I'm glad your daughter's work is making preparations for their employee's safety.
Thank you, Debra. Oops, sorry to have made you hungry again! :D Yes, my daughter is now working from home.
