Making Progress on Tuesday

Today was a cloudy, overcast day, here, and a bit on the cool side.

In the morning, I brought the trash cans in and I happened to see my my next door neighbor M (the owner of the house with the construction work going on).  I showed her my cell phone picture of the truck blocking my driveway.  She apologized and hugged me and assured me that she will tell the construction guys not to block my driveway.  I am hoping that I won't have any more problems with the trucks, now.

After that I drove to the office and spent a fairly productive day there, too.  I just have to pack up the last few boxes and tag the things I will be taking with me (including the waste bin as we've been told we won't get new waste bins!)

Today, during my lunch break, I put in my application for a transit pass - I received a temporary one until the permanent one comes in the mail.  I put $5 on the temporary card for the time being, but, when the permanent one comes in, I can have a 30-day senior monthly pass added to it for only $20.  I am making progress on the transit front!

I also looked up some possible parking places, on-line.  I located a parking garage where I can get monthly parking for $100/month (whether any monthly permits are available is another matter).  I was talking to a colleague today and she said she parked at the Cathedral but it was $170/month.  Still better than paying $16/day to park at my current office building (and some mornings, when I drive in, all the public parking spots are taken and the parking attendant stands there at the entrance, waving people away).  I also saw a place advertising $4 flat rate parking, which usually means for the entire day, in one of the new apartment buildings on my drive to work, this morning.  It is not too far from the new office - I am wondering if I can walk the distance - it is perhaps about little over a mile away. At one time, I would have been able to walk it without a problem, but these days, I don't know.  I need to see if there is a bus that goes from there past the new office.

On my way home in the evening, I stopped by the UPS store to mail some documents that I needed to fill out and return.  Then, I went to the pharmacy to pick up my medication refill, finally!  (I called the pharmacy in the morning to check on the refill status and was told it will be ready after 5:00 p.m.; they texted me to say the refill was ready for pick up around 4:00 p.m.)

It was past 7:00 p.m. when I came home.  I was tired.  I had a cup of coffee and relaxed for a bit.  Then, cooked green beans, made a cucumber salad, and heated up the chicken curry I had cooked earlier and some leftover rice for dinner:

Dinner
I packed some of the leftovers to take for my lunch, tomorrow.  I had taken a ham sandwich for my breakfast, today, and some of the chicken stew for lunch.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to talk to my neighbor about the truck blocking my driveway
- Being able to take one or two baby steps about the office parking situation
- The pharmacy filling out my prescription refill
- Having dinner partially prepared so it was easy when I got home
- Video chatting with my daughter

I was able to do most of the things on my to do list - the only thing I didn't do was finish my tax papers!  Oops!

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Go to the office
- Take the tax papers to the preparer
- Give Dancer his flea prevention medication
- Water the back garden

How was your day, today?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. I so understand about not being sure if you are now up to walking that mile or so to your office. How close does the subway get you to the new office? Is it safe?

You pulled a lovely meal together by your cooking ahead. 👍

    1. Sandy, the nearest subway stop to the new office will be several blocks away. But, I will be able to take the downtown shuttle from across the street and it will go past the new office (it actually turns around there to repeat the loop). I have been on the subway twice, so far, the first time with one of my cousins, several years ago, and the 2nd time with my daughter's drama class when she was in high school! I presume it is safe! As safe as any public transit in a big city, I suppose! But, maybe I won't have to take the subway - I searched online a little bit more and I think I might have another option, closer to the new building. I will be checking it out, soon. :)

Thank you; I was tired and hungry on my way home after running errands and so tempted to buy a hamburger or a pizza! But, I told myself, I have everything ready at home, all I needed to do was make a cucumber salad and, perhaps, steam some broccoli and I'll have dinner. Then, I felt energetic enough to cut up and cook the green beans, so I left the broccoli for another day. There was even a little leftover cheesecake from lunch out with my sister, for dessert! :)

  2. Sometimes companies will give a subsidy for transportation costs. Does your do that? Your commute sounds awful to me.

    1. Live and Learn, yes, if I take public transit, I can apply for a transit reimbursement. That might be something to look into; I just need to verify that applying for transit reimbursement doesn't exclude me from being on the waiting list for subsidized parking at the new building (what they usually do is subsidize the parking by the same amount they subsidize the transit).

  3. Glad you had a good day. Parking for work can eat into the budget quickly!

    1. Thank you, Anne. Yes, parking can be quite expensive! Fortunately, my gas budget is well padded (I allocate $50/week, even though I spend about $30/week), so there will be some of that available to offset parking costs and I won't feel as big a pinch!

  4. Too funny that you all have to take your waste bins to the new location! Oh well, I guess it saves a bit of money and they probably would have been thrown out if left behind.
I hope you figure out a comfortable and affordable way to get to work.
Well, we woke up this morning, Wednesday, to at least 3 inches of snow everywhere. Every twig on every tree covered. Beautiful if it was the middle of winter, April 4th, I'm not so sure! I went to the mailbox and halfway along the road I saw a large mist developing and it came nearer anc the fine snow falling was replaced by fine snow blowing at me! The birds have been eating at the feeders as if there is no tomorrow, but the squirrels have mostly kept hidden away. It's very windy now and the temperature is supposed to drop to -15°C at night. So much for spring!

    1. Isn't it the silliest thing? They are giving us new chairs, but we have to bring our own waste bins! I tagged, mine, today! They wouldn't have been thrown out, though - other people will be moving into the cubicles we are leaving! We are playing musical chairs - why they couldn't be the ones to be moved to the new building is anybody's guess! I'd have been perfectly happy to stay where I am (and keep my parking!) That is my main grouse about moving!

Ooh, April showers are supposed to bring May flowers - wonder what April snows bring? The sap running, perhaps? I hope it warms up soon, though, Bushlady; you must be getting a bit tired of winter by now and longing for spring!

  5. I had to giggle at being told you ad to take your rubbish bins, seems strange. Your dinner looks nice, I have been working in the garden and was very tired when I got but was so thankful I had some leftover lasagne and salad makings in the fridge! And my fig tree is ripening its fruit beautiful and sweet!

    1. Honestly, Sharon, isn't it the silliest thing? I mean, how expensive can a waste bin be? They are probably paying more to the movers to move them than to buy new ones!

Yum! Fresh figs from your tree! I am hoping to be able to do some planting this weekend. I'll see how it goes.

  6. Good for you to stick to your resolve about eating at home, especially when it would have been so easy to pick up fast food when you were already hungry and tired. Your dinner looks so good too, and a much healthier option. Having it partially made helped make it a "fast food".

    1. Thank you, Susan. I've noticed that when I am feeling tired and hungry is when I am most tempted to get fast food! I seem to pass many of them on my drive home, too! Knowing I have something already made at home helps. :)
