I called my aunt, this morning, to check on her and to see if she was up to having me visit; she said she was feeling well. I cooked the broccoli I didn't cook yesterday and cut up half the cantaloupe to take for her. Then, packed up everything, including their Christmas gifts, as I haven't seen them since before Christmas! I had almost forgotten what I put in their gift bags!
I got to their house at 10:45 a.m. I had meant to visit for about an hour and then, come back home. But, aunt insisted that I stayed to lunch, so I stayed till 2:00 p.m.! Then, instead of going to the library or doing a little shopping, as planned, I took a nap on the sofa!
Later, after a cup of tea, I took the trash cans to the curb. As I was taking them to the curb, a vehicle pulled up and parked in front of my house and blocked the driveway! I told the driver that she was blocking my driveway, but she said she was going to visit my neighbor (the one who is having work done on her house) and will be just 5 minutes. What could I say? It would have been very petty of me to have objected to her blocking my driveway for 5 minutes (although, I did wonder if it would have been for only 5 minutes if I hadn't been out there and hadn't said anything). I also watered the front garden again (it was hot, today, with a high of 91F; the plants were drooping!) and turned on the sprinklers at the back. Then, I put away the laundry from yesterday, emailed my cousin some information she wanted, exchanged emails with a friend, knitted a bit, and video chatted with daughter. Need to clean the litter box before I go to bed.
Today, I am grateful for:
- A pleasant visit with aunt and cousin
- A safe drive there and back
- They liked the gifts I got them
- A nap on the sofa
- A relaxed evening
Tuesday's To Do List:
- Go to the office
- Bring the trash cans in
- Cook the pork chops I bought (or freeze them)
- Wash the dishes

One of my pet hates is people blocking my driveway without asking. It's really inconsiderate, rarely necessary, and is something that really winds me up.

I just hope that when the construction is done on your neighbors house, everyone stops blocking your driveway. All of the workers and visitors have been pretty rude so far. Do you have a good relationship with this neighbor?
ReplyDeleteThe neighbor and I have an OK relationship; I don't interact with them much, except to say hello when I see them. They are rather inconsiderate in that they used to have really loud parties outside (with mariachi band, amplified music, etc.) till very late at night, often till 2:00 a.m. The music would be so loud that my windows and pictures I've hung on my walls would vibrate! One time, they had their loud party on a week day night - a Wednesday night or something, and my poor daughter was studying for an exam! I didn't say anything, but, the lady in the house behind the party house had enough of the noise - I don't know if she called the police and the police couldn't come out or what - but she drove over and honked her car horn until someone from that house came out and then, she yelled at them until people began to leave and the party stopped! LOL. They've had other loud parties since then, but never on a week day night and usually, the music stops a little after midnight. I have a copy of the noise ordinance, but I am too chicken to confront them.
DeleteI wouldn't confront them. I'd call the police. Let them get a ticket, they'll stop their racket soon enough.
DeleteNext time someone blocks your driveway, tell them they need to move their vehicle IMMEDIATELY or you're calling a tow truck. If you had an emergency, for any reason, you'd need to get out of the house ASAP. Or if something happened to you, emergency vehicles might need to get as close to your house as possible. Do you have an HOA? If so, alert them to the problem. If not, can you call your police station, explain the continual problem and ask them what they recommend you do the next time it happens?
There is no HOA where I live, but yes, I could call the police. I am more a "live and let live" type of person, but, I will call the police if I need to, in the future.

ReplyDeleteI still don't get how people can think it is okay to block someone's driveway, even briefly. As we might say in England, "It just isn't done!" Unfortunately, though, it seems it is done.
It's daughter-in-law's birthday today and iI was able to arrange for delivery of a treat for them all, plus a humorous e-card since I think our snail mail card will be late. We hope to see them all on Friday when I have an appointment in the big city.
It's cloudy today but warm, and I notice the birds are no longer desperate, so I haven't had to top up the feeder since this morning. Just as well as I have been having a little vertigo occasionally since yesterday and am taking it easy.
Bushlady, it really was nice to visit with my aunt and cousin. Aunt is one of the few people still alive who knew my father, albeit very distantly (her late husband and my father were first cousins). I love listening to her talk about the "olden days". Hers was a traditional arranged marriage and she said that when she first met her future husband's family, everyone was waiting for the arrival of a member of the family, who turned out to be my father - apparently they were waiting for his approval of the match before anything was agreed upon! My father had an older brother, but, as far as the family was concerned, my father was the head of the family. His brother was more unapproachable.

Sorry to hear about the vertigo. Two of my cousins have been diagnosed with "benign vertigo" and are taking medications for it. I hope you continue to take it easy and the vertigo goes away, soon. Take care.
