A Scenic Tour on Wednesday

Today was the second day at the new office.  I discovered the kitchen/break room on my floor - it has a sink, a couple of chairs, and nothing else!  No table, or microwave, etc.  So, I went down to the 13th floor, to their lunch room where there is a microwave, toaster, and toaster oven, along with a sink and chairs.  But, no table!  I warmed up my lunch and went back upstairs to eat at my desk.

I called to follow up on my retirement seminar reservation, which I did online, two weeks ago - I was supposed to receive a confirmation email which I never received and found out that, apparently, the registration didn't go through!  I am not registered for Saturday's seminar and they are fully booked.  So, I booked myself again, for the next available one, which will be held in early May.  So much for my plans to get ready early with gathering information and so forth!   What was it that Lewis Carroll wrote in Alice in Wonderland?  "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get".  I have a trivet with that saying!

There were some technical (computer related) difficulties at the office, today, with my computer freezing and causing me to lose some of my work from time to time, but I managed to get some work done.

Then, on the way back to the old building, where I had parked my car, I ended up taking a "scenic tour" of downtown during rush hour!  Yesterday, I had taken the shuttle bus at the stop right in front of the new office.  Today, there was a temporary closure notice posted at the shuttle bus stop, and I didn't know where the new stop was.  So, I crossed the street and got on the bus that was going in the other direction, because, I knew that it would eventually go past the old office building, after it wound its way through downtown!  It has a route that loops around.  I confirmed this with the driver, and rode the shuttle as it wound its way past the central library, past the cancer clinic (I now know how to get there by shuttle bus, if I need to!) and past a shopping center and, one hour later, arrived at the old office building!  By that time, I was getting tired, needed to use a bathroom, and still needed to brave the traffic home which was made worse because there was a Dodger game this evening and I drive past the stadium!  It was almost 7:30 p.m., when I got home!  I didn't even take my purse out of the car, before I ran inside the house to use the bathroom!  LOL!

After I came home, I had a cup of coffee and relaxed.  Dinner was leftover honey mustard chicken, fried potatoes and broccoli.  I treated myself to some ice cream for dessert.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Finding out that I wasn't registered for the retirement seminar in time to register for the next available one
- Getting a scenic tour of downtown for only $.50!
- Finding out that I can get to the cancer clinic using this shuttle bus, if needed.
- Finding out where the new bus stop is located
- Video chatting with my daughter

 How was your day?

  1. When do you plan to retire? Now I've made my mind up, it can't happen soon enough for me.

Wednesday was a bit of a wash out for me with the window fitters cancelling, but they're here today and work is progressing well.

    1. Eileen, I am planning to retire sometime this summer, if all goes well. :)

Glad to hear that work has begun on your windows. Hopefully, there won't be many more delays.

  2. Ack! Being stuck without a bathroom around is truly miserable. Glad you made it home in time. :)

    1. Ha, ha, there was one time, when I used to drive from the office to UCLA to pick up daughter (1 hr. drive), and then, drive home (another 1 hr. drive, but, sometimes, would stretch to 1 1/2 to even 2 hrs. depending on traffic!), when I was stuck in traffic for the longest time (accident on the freeway/highway patrol had closed a couple of lanes, etc.) and I had to use a bathroom so badly that I pulled into a restaurant as soon as I got off the freeway! I left her to order something for us, while I ran to the restroom! LOL!

  3. Oh Bless how annoying that your registration for the retirement seminar didn't go thru. Is it worth checking into a wait list in the event a space opens up?

We had a warm Spring day here yesterday and I flung the windows open and made a start on cleaning up the flower beds.

    1. Sandy, I asked the lady if they could notify me if there was a cancellation, but was told they can't do it (I don't know why; too much work for them, I suppose!) She did say that they often had only 70% attendance, so, if I wanted to just show up, there probably would be seating available. But, apparently, they do a personalized portfolio for registered attendees and they wouldn't be able to do that for me. I debated taking my chances and showing up, on the chance that there will be a seat, but daughter was saying it might be better to wait until the personalized portfolio was prepared. Otherwise, I might get confused by information that might not pertain to me. I seem to get easily confused, these days!

Glad to hear that you had a warm Spring day! Hopefully, it continues.

  4. Your tour sounds like a lot of fun, but maybe not at the end of a busy day. I often have to make a dash into the house whenever I've been out with Lily. She hates the hand driers in public bathrooms!
The results of my mammogram (finally) came through. Thankfully it's all clear. X

  5. Well soon things will go more smoothly for your new office! I tend to try to not go out in high-traffic times (in our last house area) but here there are no traffic jams! Andrea

    1. Lucky you to live somewhere without traffic jams! Here, there's traffic morning, noon, and night!

  6. That sounded like a less than satisfactory day but you got through it and I'm glad you indulged in some ice cream, I think you needed a treat!
We had a fair amount of snow this afternoon but it isn't staying around much as the temperature is above zero. I did some artwork with a friend in the afternoon and this evening 2 ladies came to help bottle maple syrup. Last time it went smoothly, this time for some reason it was clogging the filter and took forever. I think the crazy weather affects the trees and more sugar sand gets into the sap.

    1. Yes, well, it could have been a better day, but, as you say, I got through it and, as the song says, "Tomorrow is a lovely day". :)

You had more snow?! Good thing it is not staying. Sorry it took so much work to bottle the syrup, this time, but at least you had some help with it.

  7. You did very well in remaining positive on this somewhat frustrating day, Bless :) I hope your daughter is proud of you, lol.

I always use the bathroom before I have to drive any kind of longish distance because many years ago, before cell phones, I was driving on I-4 at dusk, downtown Orlando, and my car broke down. And I had to pee a lot! It made a frightening ordeal even more stressful (I had broken down just by the Orange Blossom Trail exit, which at the time, and maybe even today, is one of the most crime-ridden roadways in Orlando). I'm glad you were able to hold it! How long is your commute home?

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. Daughter was laughing at me over the bus incident, saying this is why she worries about me travelling by public transit because, in her words, "You'll end up in Timbuktu!" LOL! She also said she refrained from pointing out the obvious - which my friend did - that I could have got off the wrong-way bus at the first stop, crossed the street, and taken the bus going in the opposite directions/right way, saying she knew I'd just get all defensive about it! She knows me well!

The commute home has been extended by an additional 15-20 minutes due to having to take the shuttle bus to where I've been parking my car. So, the normally 1 hour commute is now 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hrs. long. Add a scenic tour of 1 hr. and baseball game related traffic, and the commute home on Wednesday was some 2 1/2 hrs. long! Yesterday, I made sure I went to the restroom before I left the office! LOL!

  8. "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get" Oh my gosh, I love that saying. I didn't know it was from Alice in Wonderland. Thank you for that tidbit of information.
That tour of downtown might even be considered FUN if it were not for the fact that you had to relieve yourself so desperately. Anyways, I could tell that today you had to s-t-r-e-t-c-h to get your five things to be grateful for.

    1. Susan, the quote is what the White Rabbit said, as he looked at his pocket watch and disappeared down the rabbit hole. There are days when I think it describes what I experience to a "T"!

Yes, the tour would have been more fun if I had done it sometime during the day, when I wasn't trying to go home as soon as I could! I was beginning to feel rather sorry for myself by the time I got home, and I had to give myself a good talking to!
