First Day at the New Office

I went to the new office, today.  I drove, parked my car in the parking garage at the old office, and took the shuttle bus to the new building.  Next week, I will look into parking at the parking lot near the new office.

My new office is on the 14th floor.  I couldn't get into the office as the doors were all locked and the couple of doors I tried to open by scanning my ID wouldn't open.  So, I went down to the 13th floor where the rest of the unit is located and someone showed me which door I should use to get into my office, by scanning the ID.  There are about 8 of us from my section up on the 14th floor (another unit occupies another section of the floor and another entity occupies the rest of the floor).  Apparently all the supervisors are on the 13th floor, however!  I observed to one of my colleagues that the mice can play.  LOL!  My supervisor came up a couple of times during the day, but I still haven't gone around the 13th floor to see where everyone is.   

I used to be tucked away in a corner at the old office; here, I have the first office nearest the door!  So, every time someone comes in, I am seen/I get to see who it is.  It is going to take me a few days to get used to that!  I spent the morning unpacking and setting up my new cubicle.  My new chair was there!  The computer had been set up and worked.  I forgot to see if the phone worked, though! 

I've had a quiet evening at home.  I put away the laundry, brought in the trash cans, cooked the ground beef, and made a version of the rice my neighbor used to make for me when I was having threatments:

My neighbor cooked rice with canned tomato sauce, ground beef, bell peppers, and spices.  I didn't have a can of tomato sauce, so I used some leftover pasta sauce that I had frozen.  I had some for my dinner and packed some for my lunch, tomorrow.  But I think I need to buy a new rice cooker, because my one kept going off before the rice was cooked.  I had to wedge a spoon to keep the switch stuck on the on position.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to park at my former office for one more day
- Making my way to and from the new office without much trouble
- Having a good first day at the new office
- I have a window cubicle
- A nice view (although I sit with my back to the window)

  1. Too bad we don't live closer. I just gave my rice cooker away because I got an Instant Pot. It still worked well, but just didn't need two.

    1. Well, I do have a second rice cooker, but it is a bigger one; too big for daily use for one person. I guess I could still use it or just cook the rice on the stove! :)

  2. Glad your first day went well. Is the parking at your old building an option or only allowed temporary? Do you have a break room or did you eat lunch at your desk?

    We had left over cottage pie with added gravy and green beans for dinner last night. Hubby really likes so will probably make it again sooner than later.

    1. Sandy, unfortunately, parking at the old building is not an option (wish it was!); I'm just parking there for this week, as I need to hand in the parking permit in order to get on the waiting list for parking in this building.

      There is a "kitchen" with a sink and very little else - no table, no chairs, no fridge, or microwave. The microwave we used to have at the other building is now on the 13th floor - I haven't explored to see if they have a better furnished break room. I tend to eat at my desk, usually, so, that's what I did, yesterday, too. The rest of my colleagues in the unit went out to lunch, yesterday.

      Your cottage pie was a hit! Nice to make something one day and have enough for another day, as well, isn't it? I saw a bottle of Bisto at one of the grocery stores, sometime ago - they had an international foods section and the bottle was priced at $5+ (forget the exact price). I didn't buy it, though.

  3. Oh good, some news about the new building. I was wanting to know how you were getting on. I'm glad you have a window in your cubicle even if you do not face it. Not so sure about being right near the door. Makes me think of what it must be like for the people in business class on a plane, when all of us in "cattle class" go struggling by dragging our carry-on cases. Must take the fizz out of the welcome champagne a bit!

    If you are all on the 14th floor and the supervisors are on the floor below, you won't be able to party or they will hear the dancing and come running up to see what is going on! I hope that your parking/travel arrangements work out for you.

    1. LOL, Bushlady, better not party, then! :D Well, I had an interesting tour of part of downtown, tonight, in my attempt to return to the parking garage, but I will eventually have it all figured out!

  4. glad you got settled into your new surroundings at work. All changes take a little getting used to, but now this will be your new normal and then all of a sudden it will no longer feel new.

  5. How lovely to have a window cubicle. You should be able to turn around in your desk chair while on the phone to gaze out over the cityscape. Do you have a nice view?

    I am still laughing at Bushlady's description of "cattle class" strolling through business class to get to their seats. I hadn't heard that expression before, but so aptly described. Very funny.
