Sunny Sunday: Yet More Groceries!

Another sunny and warm day, today.  Temperatures reached 80F downtown, according to the weather reports; they were at least 70F in my area, according to the temperature gauge in my car.

I spent a quiet morning relaxing, catching up on news, putting away laundry, etc.  My neighbor called and we had a nice chat.   In the afternoon, I went back to the grocery store to buy more coffee and a few other items:

January 29 Groceries

I bought two more packets of coffee for my daughter, a loaf of bread and a package of cold cuts to make sandwiches for my lunches during the week, and a packet of shrimp.  It's kind of funny how I looked at some of the same things, yesterday - the loaf of bread, the cold cuts, and the shrimp - and didn't feel like buying them, but decided to do so, today.

2 packets of coffee @$4.99 = $9.98
1 loaf of bread = $1.00
Roast beef cold cuts (7 oz.) = $1.99
Shrimp @ $4.99/lb = $5.99
Total = $18.96

January 29 Receipt

January grocery budget = $75
Spent to date = $5.12 + $4.39 + $5.25 + $6.28 + $14.47 +$18.96 = $54.47
Balance remaining = $20.53

I hope butter goes on sale in the next week or two.  I am down to half a pound of butter; I took out one 1/4 lb. stick of butter to keep in the fridge for use this week.  Which means I just have one 1/4 lb. stick of butter left in the freezer.  Butter was priced $3.79/lb. for store brand and I am holding out to see if I can get some on sale.

After I came home and put away the groceries, I went for a walk.  Today, I took a slightly different route.  When I came back from my walk, I ate a sandwich before I lay on the sofa to watch news and that kept the shakes at bay!  I fell asleep for about 30 minutes and had a cup of tea after I woke up.

I had taken out a packet of pre-cooked roast beef from the freezer and kept it in the fridge to thaw, but I decided to cook the shrimp for dinner, instead.  But first, I had to do the dishes that had piled up in the sink and on the counters!  Then I put some rice to boil and cooked the shrimp curry.  I wanted to cook some green beans, too, but I felt tired and made a cucumber salad, instead:

Dinner: Rice, Shrimp Curry, Cucumber Salad

Cantaloupe for dessert.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny, warm day
- A nice walk in the sunshine
- More coffee on sale for my daughter
- Phone call from my cousin
- Chatting with my daughter

And finally:

  1. Yay a picture of Dancer! He's so cute :) He looks so cozy in there. He's liking the tree, eh?

I'm glad you got to take a walk and you had a nice day. I can't believe how little you paid for the roast beef, down here it'd be probably $3.99 for that brand. The price on the shrimp was very good too!

Butter down here is currently $2.99 a lb at Aldi and Save A Lot. I don't anticipate it going on sale, I don't think that many people actually bake for Valentine's Day? I stocked up over the holidays when it went down to $1.99 but we also use quite a bit of it and I don't know how my stock is faring because I kind of stuck it in all the nooks and crannies of my freezer!

I hope you have a nice day today, Bless. Are you going to the office this week?

    1. Yes, he likes his tree. He usually prefers the top tier, but occasionally, he likes to curl up in the more sheltered place on the 2nd tier.

The roast beef was on sale. It normally sells for $4.49 and I don't buy it then. I wait for a sale (I've tried other brands, but seem to prefer this one, the most). I am thinking of getting another packet, because I ate almost half the packet yesterday! A lot of the recent news has been stressful to me and I eat to relieve stress! Yes, I thought $6 for a little more than 1 lb. shrimp was a good price. The package would be enough for 4 meals at $1.50 per serving; it's an affordable luxury.

I have the day off from work, today, but yes, I'm planning to go in this week.

Hope you have a lovely day, today, Nathalie, and your week is off to a good start.

  2. I also have a thing about buying butter on sale. I know it is going to go on sale sooner or later, so I hate paying full price.
Dancer looks happy in his little hideaway!

    1. I hate having to pay full price on anything unless I have to! But I have stopped using margarine, so, butter it is! I'll have to start looking up some of those war-time recipes, when people adapted to not having butter, among other things.

    1. Thank you, Debbie. We were at 76F where I am, today, so downtown would have been in the 80s, again. Where I live is always cooler than downtown in the winter and warmer in the summer, usually by 10 degrees. The nights, however, are still quite cool, although not as cold as where you are. Keep warm!

    1. Thank you. He was a stray/feral kitten that a friend rescued. He still runs and hides under my bed when anyone comes to the house!

  5. I refuse to buy butter unless it is on sale, so when it was 2.19 a pound I bought 6 pounds on 4 different days. I have a basket in the freezer with nothing but butter in it, but it should last me a year.

    1. That's a good price on butter! I usually stock up at Costco, but I haven't been to Costco in over a year! Should just go, sometime this week, renew my membership and stock up on a few things.

    1. He is, isn't he? Yes, I'm happy I was able to get the coffee at a good price for her and I had room in the budget to do so. And the shrimp was a bit of a treat. :)

Hope you are having a lovely week, Judy. Take care.
