September Meal Planning - Week 1 Review and Week 2

Fresh Produce from the Garden
Lemons, Okra, Passionfruit, Curry Leaves

This was my meal plan for September Week 1:

Brunches:  Milkrice (September 1st) with seeni sambol, jaggery (me) or sugar (daughter, who doesn't like jaggery); Egg salad or tuna salad sandwiches; French toast; salads; Scrambled eggs and toast (if we don't have egg salad); leftovers from dinners

Dinners:  Spaghetti with ground turkey and pasta sauce (or leftover onion gravy); Rice and chicken curry with dhal and cucumber salad; Rice and keema curry made with ground turkey; pork chops* and rice with vegetables; leftovers; or something else!

Snacks/Desserts: Options include fresh fruit, crackers, chips, cheetos, smoothies

Here's how it worked out:

Monday:
Brunch:  Milkrice, seeni sambol, jaggery
Dinner:  Hamburgers, chicken nuggets, fries from a fast food drive through!
Snacks/Dessert: Asian pears, raspberries (daughter), a shared hot fudge sundae

Tuesday:
Brunch:  Bread and seeni sambol (me); leftover chicken nuggets (daughter)
Dinner:  Milkrice, seeni sambol, and chicken curry (me); rice, chicken curry, dhal, and tomato chutney (daughter)
Snacks/Dessert:  Pears; Asian pears; chocolate wafers; chips

Wednesday:
Brunch:  Scrambled eggs and toast
Dinner:  Pork chops with onion & mushroom gravy (had a can of mushroom stems and pieces in the pantry that needed to be used up), green beans, microwave baked potatoes

Wednesday's Dinner

Snacks/Dessert:  Plums, apple juice popsicles, bread pudding baked in the microwave

Thursday:
Brunch:  Boiled mung beans, lunu miris and/or sugar
Dinner:  Pork chops, gravy, and green beans, with rice (daughter) or leftover baked potato half (me)
Snacks/Dessert:  Fruit,  apple juice popsicles

Friday:
Brunch:  Boiled mung beans, lunu miris and/or sugar
Dinner: Rice, curried pork chops, dhal (lentils), spicy sauteed potatoes (ala thel dala), cucumber salad, tomato chutney
Friday Dinner

Snacks/Dessert:
grapes, cheetos, chips, watermelon (daughter)

Saturday:
Brunch:  Cashew curry (eaten by itself)
Dinner:  Rice, pork curry, spicy sauteed potatoes, moringa curry, cucumber salad, tomato chutney

Saturday Dinner

Snacks/Dessert:  ice cream bars, grapes, cheetos

Sunday:
Brunch: Tortillas and chicken curry
Dinner: Scrambled eggs with toast (daugher) or baked potato (me)
Snacks/Dessert:  ice cream bars

Well, I obviously went off the meal plan because I chose to cook the pork chops instead of the ground turkey, but, it worked out quite well, even with the spur of the moment trip to a fast food hamburger place.

Moving on to September Week 2:

Brunches:  Curried pork fried rice (Monday); French toast; tortillas with scrambled eggs and lunu miris; leftovers from dinners

Dinners:  Rice and curries - curried pork, sauteed okra, sauteed moringa leaves, spicy sauteed potatoes (Monday);  smoked sausage, potato wedges, corn on the cob, and salad (Tuesday); sauteed salmon (from the freezer) with rice and green beans; leftovers; or something else!

Snacks/Desserts: Options include fresh fruit, homemade chocolate cookies (daughter baked), apple juice popsicles, and ice cream.

Curried Pork Fried Rice

That is the plan.  We will see if we stay on plan or go off the plan.

As always, I am grateful for having plenty of food to eat and a nice variety in our meals.  It is truly a blessing.

Are you making a meal plan this week?

    1. How lovely to come home to find more green beans growing in your garden! I was unable to grow any green beans, this year. Will try again, next year.

  4. Fortunately I had already eaten supper before reading your blog and seeing the photos, or I might have found myself trying to lick the laptop screen!
I've had a lot of meals for one, except during family visits, but DH will be back tonight, so I will be cooking for two again. Yikes, I'd better come up with a plan for tomorrow! : )

    1. Thank you, Jules. Hope your meal planning and shopping goes well. Do you ever shop first and then, meal plan based on what you bought? Some people call it reverse meal planning, but, that's what I usually do.
