September Grocery Shopping: Part 2

I ordered and picked up some groceries on Saturday.  I needed half and half for my daughter's coffee, eggs, and milk.  I also wanted to get some tortillas instead of bread and more fruit that was on sale.  Daughter asked for more Cheetos; they were on a buy one, get one free sale, but, it not as good a sale as previously, when I bought four bags for $10.  And we both wanted ice cream.  In the summer, when it is 90F+ outside and we live in a house with no air conditioning, ice cream becomes a need! LOL.

Here's the receipt showing what I bought:

I spent a total of $36.06

September grocery budget = $250
Spent to date = $28.49 + $36.06 = $64.55
Balance left in the September grocery budget =  $250 - $64.55 = $185.45

I am aiming to keep my weekly grocery spending to $62.50 per week, but, a few dollars plus or minus will be fine.

How are you coming along with your grocery spending so far this month?

  1. Ice cream is always a "need" here. :)

    1. I was telling my daughter about how you've stated that your father always had ice cream every day. :)

  2. I agree about the need for ice cream. We even have a/c and sometimes the weather calls for ice cream. That is my story that I am sticking to.

    1. Ice cream and summer tend to go hand in hand, don't they? If I didn't have to be careful about my sugar intake, I'd have ice cream every day. :D

  3. You got a few good prices I think.
My husband Likes Hagen Dazs and that's a good sale price of late.
And even though it's not 4/$10, that's still a good sale price on the Cheetos. My husband sometimes gets a bag of Flamin' Hots at the Dollar Store. I'm not sure price per oz. as I haven't done a comparison.

    1. Thank you, Debra. The ice cream is on sale with a coupon this coming week, too, but at $3.99 each. 18 eggs (store brand, white) will be $4.49, so a dollar cheaper than what I paid. You win some and you lose some, I guess. The thing is, you can't be sure that certain items will go on sale again at the same price the next time around, because, prices tend to fluctuate more now than they used to.

  4. I like the idea of ice cream being a need. I have the same feeling about chocolate, definitely a health product as far as I am concerned!

  5. Ice cream absolutely is a need! Today I met a friend in Rochester, Minnesota, a halfway point for each of us to drive ( she from the west, me from the east), about 1.5 hours. We met for lunch, shopping and talking! We went to the Asian/ Indian grocery, and I bought fresh curry leaves! You inspired me. Now I need to cook with them! Although we split the package, there are a lot of leaves, so I hope they will be ok dried to keep. I also bought urad dal, which will be new to me. I'll make curry this week. We shall see...

    1. Sounds like you had a nice time with your friend, Celie. Fresh curry leaves can be dried or frozen and either way is fine. You can add a few of the curry leaves to the urad dal when you cook it. :)

  6. I'm often envious of your coupons and sale items, but perhaps our food costs are lower overall. I'm not sure.
You've got some good deals there, Bless. And I'm happy to say that I'm still on track with my meal planning. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. The coupons are digital coupons that can be downloaded to your store loyalty card; the sales are how the stores entice you to shop there rather than at a different store. I try to take advantage of those sales to my benefit, trying as much as possible to buy things only when they are on sale (or on offer) and not buy them at full price. I am not sure about food costs over there, but, I've seen some UK bloggers post prices of their groceries and they do seem less expensive over there, even with currency conversion rates.
Well done on staying on track with your meal planning. :)

  7. I ate far too much ice cream while I was away!
I do like it in the summer, cools you down on a hot day.
