On Friday

Roses are Red

These are the red roses in the front garden.  Sometimes, they bloom as individual flowers; sometimes, they bloom in clusters.

And then, we have this color-changing rose;

And Mostly Yellow

Until it Turns Orangey Red!

It's the same flower, it was yellow when it first bloomed and the next day, it was orangey-red!

Friday was another grey, cool day, with a high of only 63F.  I know that might sound quite warm for some, but, for me, that's chilly!  A hot shower warmed me up and I dressed in layers.

Dancer had an appointment at the vet's clinic for his arthritis injection.  I gave him his sedative before we left, but, he was not happy on the ride to the clinic.  He was very vocal about how he felt and threw up for good measure.  He was very subdued on the ride home, though.

"I don't like going to the vet's"

After I brought him home, I went to the ethnic grocery store to get my 10 lb. bag of potatoes for $1.99 (in comparison, the supermarket is selling a 5 lb. bag of potatoes for $3.99 and the 10 lb. bag for $4.99).  The bananas I had bought for $0.59/lb. on Tuesday was now priced at $0.89/lb., which is more than the price of bananas ($0.69/lb.) at the supermarket.  Romaine lettuce was on sale for 2/$0.99, so I bought one (they are $1.99 each at the supermarket).

After I came home, again, I put away my groceries and made myself a chicken sandwich for brunch.  Dancer received a tiny bit of the cooked chicken as a treat for having endured the trauma of a visit to the vet clinic.  It was whisker-licking good, he said.

In the evening, M arrived to tend to the garden.  He had picked up a couple of bags of mulch for me and I reimbursed him for them.  He mulched some of the fruit trees and watered the garden.

Later, I started to tidy and clean the family room.  I changed the sofa dust sheets, cleared and dusted the coffee table, and vacuumed the area rug.  I still have to do the rest of the room, but, that will be done on Saturday.

On Friday, I was grateful for:
- Dancer received his injection
- We had a safe drive to the clinic and back
- M's help with the garden
- Bargains at the grocery store
- Phone calls and emails from friends

Friday's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

Plans for Saturday include tidying the rest of the family room and maybe a visit from friend R?

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for Saturday?

  1. I'm glad Dancer recovered from his ordeal. I'm gearing up to give Boo his flea medication later :)
I had quite a relaxed day yesterday. It's Saturday morning now and I'm enjoying a bit of blog reading, whilst waiting for my cookies to bake in the oven. Xx

  2. You just can't beat the beauty of a rose. I grew roses once, but fighting with the mildew was a never ending job.

  4. The rose photos are lovely, and poor Dancer still looks his handsome self. I like the idea of his chicken being "whisker-licking good"! 😻

  6. Fabulous deal on the potatoes! I did well on veg last week, happening to find carrots and broccoli at 8p/pack each, large bulbs of garlic at 15p each. Of course I bought some for Mum as well and of course she asked what else there was! I said I only took notice of the things I knew we would use. A few days later, I found a big bag of potatoes for 8p ... dithered about buying enough for parents and maybe sister but knew they would have shopped for themselves meanwhile, so just got a bag for myself. I didn't check the weight of the bags, but there are several pots in there which are big enough to bake in their jackets, so I am looking forward to that treat sometime this week :o) Anyway, when I told Mum she laughed and said she thought she had done well, paying only 15p for hers.

    1. Thank you! I was happy to find the deal on potatoes. I will be making more potato dishes than rice in the next several weeks. I was planning to give some of the potatoes to my friend R when she visited, yesterday, but, I forgot to give them to her!
You found some good deals too! I had read about the Easter reduced veg specials some of your stores were offering on the British blogs I read. One person mentioned paying 4p for a 2 kg bag of potatoes and how a couple of young boys in her town had bought several bags of potatoes and given them to neighbors, which I thought was a lovely thing for them to do. Enjoy your jacket potatoes!

    2. I have checked and it is a 2kg bag, so I guess the same promotion. Maybe if I had gone late on Holy Saturday, I would have found them at half price too ... but it makes me laugh to think that someone would baulk at 8p but be prepared to pay 4p! Amongst others, there are four big enough to jacket so I will keep two and give two to my sister. That will leave a handful of smaller ones to do something else with, some time. I try to avoid eating potatoes, so rarely buy them - having them in the house feels like a treat. (Would have been even more so, if the neighbours had brought them round! Hahaha!)

    3. I'm sure your sister will appreciate receiving some potatoes from you. I like potatoes in any form and usually have some on hand.

  7. What an interesting rose with the different colors. It's very pretty.
Oh gosh, poor Dancer and his vet visits. I'm sure he loved his treat of chicken after it was all over with.

    1. It is an interesting rose, isn't it?
Yes, the vet visits are a torture for him and I'm so sorry I have to subject him to it, every month. He has assured me that Mom's homecooked chicken is the best!
