Drop Biscuits |
Friday was another warm day with a high of 85F. I loved it.
I didn't get as much housework done as I had planned to, but, I did a load of laundry, attended to Dancer's needs, knitted a bit, watched some news and other programs on TV, and tended to the garden with M when he was here in the evening. I had put a packet of wax beans seeds to soak overnight and we planted them along with with some watermelon and silver bell squash seeds that M shared with me.
I served M some of the turkey and vegetable soup I had made and he really enjoyed it. I had some of the soup, myself, for dinner, along with some drop biscuits I made.
I found that my oven wouldn't come on when I turned the knob; it's a gas oven and 31 years old, so maybe the automatic pilot ignition is not working. I managed to light it with a candle and baked the drop biscuits. I will check on the oven again, over the weekend, and, if it still doesn't come on by itself, I might request a service call by the gas company. Two of the top burners don't light automatically, either, unless I light them with a candle or one of those long handled lighters. I have been thinking of getting a new stove, but, but kept putting it off because I had a working oven and I could get the burners to work with the lighter or candle. But, if the oven is not working, then, it might be time to replace the stove. And do so during the pause in tariffs!
On Friday, I was grateful for:
- Another sunny and warm day
- Working appliances
- M's help with the garden
- Emails from friends
- Garden flowers
Friday's joyful activities included knitting and tending to the garden with M.
Plans for Saturday include getting more housework done and more knitting.
How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?

Another Pink Rose |
At various times when I've had to light a gas burner or oven, I've used matches. How very smart to use a candle. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a long handled lighter, too, but, the candle seems more convenient to me (although one does have to scrape off any spilled candle wax, afterwards!)
DeleteI'm busy working on a memory bear. It needs to be done by tomorrow so I can give it to my friend at church, in time for her to take to her stepdaughter's wedding! 🐻👰
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to get the memory bear completed in time, Angela. Your friend's stepdaughter is going to be so touched.
DeleteThat's it, I'm moving down, I'm too lazy to make biscuits myself right now. However, you might have to get rid of a certain person in the US first!
ReplyDeleteI will send you my biscuit recipe, Bushlady; it's an easy recipe. :)
DeleteWhat a pretty rose!
ReplyDeleteI have a gas cooktop and the automatic ignition died a long time ago. It would cost more to fix the electric ignition than the stove cost, so I just keep a long handled lighter in the drawer next to the stove.
Do you have a pilot light or electric starter for the oven?
Thank you, Anne.
DeleteYes, the oven has an electric starter and I guess that has stopped working, now. I, too, keep a long handled lighter in the drawer next to the stove. I use it for the two burners with electric starters that no longer work! But, often, I find it easier to use a candle.
The rose looks lovely, so beautiful. Mum loved roses. She always had some lovely ones growing.
ReplyDeleteThe drop biscuits look delicious. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
Thank you, Sharon. My mother loved roses, too.
DeleteThe drop biscuits turned out well. I am having a relaxed weekend, which suits me fine. :)
The pink rose is gorgeous! Is it scented?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can still manage to use your stove, at least, especially when baking biscuits is concerned :) But it's probably a good idea to get it checked out. Xx
Thank you, Jules. Yes, it is scented, but, I can't really smell it. I am planning to have the oven checked; fortunately, I have a small toaster oven, too, and, in any case, I shouldn't bake too many treats because then, I end up eating most of it! :D
DeleteThat's a very good pic of the rose!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. By the way, Eileen at A Bracelet of Days is doing another monthly photo challenge and the theme for April is Leaf/Leaves if you are interested in participating.
