Sunday's Update

Dancer Helps to Sew

I was hemming my daughter's dress (she needs it shortened so she can wear it with flat shoes, rather than heels, to her friend's wedding, next year).   Of course Dancer wanted to be involved!

"Make sure you take small, even stitches, Mummy"

We had rain all night long, last night!  The garden got a good soaking!  Today was partly cloudy, but, dry.  However, the forecast calls for more rain, later tonight and early tomorrow morning!

My daughter is still running a temperature which she is keeping in check with OTC medications.  Her throat isn't quite as sore today, she said, but, she has a cough, now.  Plus, she is feeling very tired.

When she called her medical center on Friday, they had given her a number to call to see if she is eligible to take one of the Covid medications.  She called them today and, after an hour long wait, was able to speak with a nurse who had asked some questions and, since daughter has asthma and is on medications for that, had set up a phone consultation with a doctor, tomorrow morning to discuss what would be the best thing to do.

I spent a fairly low key day, myself.  I did two loads of laundry, remade my bed, cleaned the litter box, did the dishes, watched news on TV. and chatted on the phone with family and friends.

Today, I am grateful for:
- My daughter continuing to have mild to moderate symptoms
- Access to health care
- Her friends who have offered to bring food to her or have food delivered
- Being able to text and video chat with my daughter
- Rain

Today's joyful activity was relaxing!

How was your weekend?  What are your plans for Monday and the week ahead?

  1. Very quiet Monday - OH has an extremely heavy cold. And the pavements (sidewalks) all really icy

    1. Oh, I do hope that Bob will feel better, soon! And be careful on those icy pavements/sidewalks! It's so easy to slip and fall!

  2. Yeah to lots of soaking rains for the garden. Dancer is an excellent supervisor but most cats are (lol). I glad to read that your daughter is having mild symptoms with Covid - I'll keep up with the positive energy flowing towards California. Let's hope the doctor consult has some immediate & practical suggestions. I think most of this week will be a push for me to get the final preparations for Christmas done... things like baking, which when not rushed I enjoy.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I'm really grateful for any and all positive energy coming this way! The garden has received a good soaking and I'm thankful for that, too.
My daughter had her consultation with the doctor and basically she was advised to let nature take its course unless she experiences a worsening in her condition, today.
I hope you get all your Christmas preparations done. I am still trying to decide if I want to bother with decorating this year as I don't think my daughter will be coming home, after all.

  3. I hope your daughter improves and that they can prescribe something that will help her. Poor girl.
I have a pup that likes to 'help' me when I am sewing, too. lol.
I hope you have a wonderful week-xo Diana

    1. Thank you, Diana. As long as my daughter's condition doesn't get worse by the end of the day, today, I think she will let the virus take its course.
Our pets want to be involved, don't they? :D
Hope you, too, have a wonderful week. :)

  4. Seems like you've been getting a lot of rain for your area. Or is it the rainy season? I'm glad that your daughter has friends who are bringing her food. That can be a tricky part to isolating.

    1. Yes, this is our rainy season and we are actually getting some rain! No more rain in the forecast for the rest of the month, though, at least not in my area.
Daughter's friends have asked her if she needs anything brought to her or delivered (can leave outside her door, etc.), but, so far, she has not taken them up on their offers. She has plenty of food in her apartment, including some of the cooked food I froze and sent up with her, and she is feeling well enough to cook or heat up soups, etc. But, it's lovely to know that her friends are there for her with offers of help.

  5. When my sister had Covid she said she had two days of feeling rough (like having flu) and then it was more like an irritating cold with runny nose and cough but not too bad really. She said the worst part was the tiredness which took the longest to return to normal. Her bout was considered to be mild so I hope it proves to be the same for your daughter, although my sister didn't have asthma to contend with. It's good to know that she will get a telephone consultation with her doctor.

How kind of Dancer to help you alter the dress. It's a lovely shade of blue.

And rain overnight with more expected. That'll help your garden and your water bill!

    1. Yes, my daughter says it is like having the flu. Hopefully, she'll start to feel better, soon. She spoke with the doctor, this morning, and since her symptoms are mild/moderate, her doctor has advised her to let the virus run its course. She is eligible to take one of the Covid medications, but, there is a risk due to her asthma medication, so, unless she experiences a worsening of symptoms, today, she shouldn't take the treatment.

  6. I hope you are not overworking Dancer! His quality control duties certainly keep him busy. So happy to hear that you got plenty of rain. Your garden will flourish. I hope your daughter will very soon be over this virus.
We have a thin layer of snow once again and the temperature has kept it there this time. It was damp and chilly yesterday but I enjoyed singing in the choir in the morning, and in the afternoon DH and I bundled up for a short walk.

    1. Ha, ha, Dancer has to earn his keep!
The rain has been very welcome! I am hoping the garden will perk up with all that water!
Thank you for the well wishes for my daughter, Bushlady. She spoke with the doctor this morning and since her symptoms have been mild to moderate, so far, the doctor has advised her to let the virus run its course. If her symptoms do become worse, later today, then, she is to call the clinic again.
Ooh, it must took very pretty with snow on the ground! Cold, but pretty. :)

  7. I am glad to hear your daughter continues to do okay. And also glad she is having the phone appointment with the doctor this morning to have her specific situation evaluated.
Its so nice Dancer is helping you with the hemming of your daughter's dress.
I'm trying a new recipe for chickpeas today. It has Harissa seasoning (a new to me spice) along with cumin, capers and other spices. It's kind of brothy at this point but will thicken up when it goes into an oven for a half hour or so with feta sprinkled on top.
We will have that tonight with a vegetable frittata and a few small breakfast sausages leftover from yesterday. I hope to have more leftovers for tomorrow. Who was the cookbook author that coined the phrase "the endless meal"?
    That's always my goal. lol

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, my daughter had a phone consultation with the doctor and she was advised to let the virus run its course, unless her symptoms worsen, in which case, they will prescribe one of the medications for Covid. They don't want to prescribe it at this point, because there might be some interactions with her asthma medications resulting in some other health complications which we'd like to avoid!
Dancer is ever so helpful, isn't he? :)
I hope your new chickpea recipe is a winner! Ha, ha, yes, leftovers are the best! I had leftover noodles with leftover turkey. yesterday. I'll have leftover pasta with leftover sausages, today. And there's more turkey and sausages leftover for tomorrow, too! :D

  8. Glad that your daughter's covid symptoms are mild. That is good news. It's on the rise again here. Since having had it - emergency supplies always on hand in my home are paracetemol, eucalyptus throat lozenges, vit c, and asthma puffers. Best wishes to daughter getting well again asap xxxxxx

    1. Thank you, Ratnamurti. Yes, we are well stocked up on OTC meds, lozenges, herbal medicines such as coriander seeds to boil and make a tea (the Sri Lankan panacea for every ailment!) and so forth. Plus soup and canned foods, etc.
Hope you are feeling better, yourself, and taking good care of yourself. :)

    1. Thank you, Celie. My daughter spoke with the doctor, today, and for now, she will continue to let the virus run its course. She is taking ibuprofen for the fever and resting.
Dancer is a very helpful kitty! He's by my side, right now, as I type this, because he likes to help me with my blog posts and replies to comments, etc. :D
The rain was a blessing! I can already see some seedlings coming up (I think they are mostly weeds, but, they are green!)
