Christmas Monday

Dancer Under the Christmas Tree

Dancer looks like he partied a little too much, yesterday, doesn't he?

Today was slightly cooler than yesterday with a high of only 78F.  It was a bit overcast, too, which made it seem colder.  I had made tentative plans to visit cousin V, again, this morning, but, I texted her and made my excuses; I'm sure she was tired after having a big family gathering yesterday, and appreciated a chance to relax.

Instead, I had a long phone chat with my late step-father's younger sister.  She has had some health issues and had been in and out of the hospital since June, but, at 92, she is still as sharp as ever!  Later, I called my half-sister and left her a message and called and chatted with friend S (not neighbor S).

My daughter had made plans to go walking in the early afternoon with friend A's younger daughter, but, apparently she was feeling a bit under the weather, so they canceled their plans.  My daughter didn't mind because she was feeling a bit tired, herself, and she took an afternoon nap on the sofa instead!

I wrapped the last couple of gifts I had to wrap and tag and then worked on pinning and hemming daughter's dress.  I had her try it on to pin in, then, after I basted it and had her try it on again, I had to undo some of the basting and re-pin it!  The dress has a double skirt, so, there's a lot of pinning to do!  But, I think I've got the correct length now.  I started to hem it, but, it was hard to see the dark blue thread against the dark blue fabric in artificial light.  I will try to hem it tomorrow, when there is daylight.

I had put mung beans to soak last night and boiled them this morning for brunch.  Daughter ate hers with sugar; I ate mine with katta sambol (a spicy mixture of onions, powdered dried Maldive fish - a type of cured tuna, actually - chili powder, lemon juice, etc.).  Dinner was rice with chicken curry, lentils (dhal), curried green beans, and peach chutney.  There might have been some pie for dessert!  LOL.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The warmer than normal weather
- Phone chats with family and friends
- A relaxed day at home
- Plenty of good food to enjoy
- Having my daughter home with me

Today's joyful activity was chatting on the phone with my step-aunt.

Plans for tomorrow include hemming daughter's dress and doing a bit of housekeeping.  My daughter is expecting two of her friends to drop by in the evening for a little masked get together.

There is rain in the forecast for tomorrow evening.  I'm hoping it will rain because the garden could do with some rain.

How was your Christmas Monday?  What are your plans for tomorrow and the rest of this week?  Do you celebrate the 12 days of Christmas?

    1. I think Dancer got up to some mischief with Santa's elves the night before! LOL.
It was so good to have my daughter home for Christmas! I hated the thought of her being alone in her apartment for Christmas!

  2. It sounds like you both had a pleasant and restful day. Were you both as worn out as Dancer?

Is your daughter going to be a bridesmaid again? Good luck with getting the hem finished today and I hope you enjoy the evening get together with your daughter's friends.

It's pouring down here so will try to send some of the rain your way. I've been working on my new piano piece and will watch TV later or read a book. I celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas. I have my gifts to open every day and normally would do something social everyday, but social plans have had to change in response to the recent Covid cases amongst family and friends so we are all staying at home in an attempt not to infect each other. xx

    1. We did have a good day and my daughter took a nap (then, she stayed up practically all night!)

Yes! My daughter is going to be a bridesmaid, again! A good friend of hers since college days is getting married in February. Her friend and the fiance live in Hawaii, so daughter will fly out from Berkeley at the end of January. She wants to take the shortened dress back with her. I hemmed the under layer, this morning and have the over layer basted (tacked). I want her to try it on before I hem it; want to make sure that it isn't shorter than the under layer!

Thank you for sending the rain! It's been drizzling all afternoon. The garden is getting watered!

I like the idea of celebrating the full 12 days of Christmas and extending the holidays. I'm sorry you aren't able to socialize as planned, but, it's important to avoid getting infected with Covid! Enjoy the rest of your day, Eileen. I've a new puzzle to work on, but, I will wait another day or two to set it up on the table!

  3. We had a relaxed Monday here, too. We started a puzzle, did a craft with my son who is visiting, and ate leftovers out of the fridge.

    1. Sounds like a very nice way to spend the day after Christmas, June. Relaxing with the family and enjoying the time spent together. I hope you are having another relaxed day, today, too.

  4. Love seeing Dancer under the tree. He does look a little tired!

Glad you are spending time with your daughter.

It is difficult to see that dark fabric. I was putting together a cross stitch ornament that was stitched on black aida and I had to have a spotlight on to see where I was sewing!

    1. Dancer was up partying with Santa's elves, I think! :D
Thank you, Sharon; being able to spend Christmas with my daughter was the highlight of the whole season for me.
I managed to do a little sewing today, even though it was still rather gloomy (it's raining, here). I have the rest of the skirt basted, but, I want my daughter to try it on one more time before I hem it. I have been thinking of getting one of those OTT lights to help with seeing what I am sewing. Do you use one?

  5. We're getting some rain now. I'm always so happy when it rains or snow. Every little bit helps in California. Your meals sound healthy and delicious.

    1. It's raining here, too, Stephenie. Well, drizzling, actually, but, the ground is wet and the garden is getting watered! There's more rain in the forecast for later this week and next week, too!
Thank you, Stephenie; I'm trying to eat healthy meals, but, we are indulging in a few treats, this week!

  6. I got a good look at your Christmas tree while admiring Dancer and it is very pretty! It sounds like you all needed a restful day at home.
I didn't even get dressed yesterday and I lost my voice and got sinus problems, but today after a reasonable night I was able to change the bed (which I had left the previous week, not feeling up to it). I got the sheets washed and I washed my hair and washed some towels, then took it easy all afternoon, including having a nap. My voice is still cracking but this too shall pass!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. My tree has no "theme" as such; just decorations collected over the years. But, I like it like that. :)
Sinus problems are the worst! Even so, you did quite a bit, today. Glad you rested in the afternoon and hope you feel better, soon.

  7. Haha - Dancer has a holiday hangover. I'm sure his rest helped.

That's so nice that you are able to alter your daughter's dress. She's lucky to have such a talented Mom :)
My husband mentioned you've had more rain. I think it's sweet that he knows where you live and keeps an eye on things over there lol

    1. Dancer was all tired out after Christmas! LOL.
My daughter's dress has been shortened. It was a little harder to do because I was trying to shorten it without cutting off the excess fabric. It's the same dress she wore to her friend V's earlier and I had cut and hemmed it to be worn with high heels. This time, she is wearing it with flat shoes, but, we wanted to hem it in such a way that she should unpick the hem and wear the dress again with heels. I'm not 100% satisfied with how the hem turned out, but, she's happy with it and as she says, her friend J, who is the bride, will be the focus of attention, not she!
Aw, that's very sweet of your husband to check on the weather where I live. Yes, he's right, we did have more rain! And more rain is expected over the weekend, too! :)

    1. It's turned a bit colder and wet since then, Jules. I don't enjoy the cooler temperatures, but, the rain is much needed and welcomed!
