Cloudy Thursday

Holiday Decorations

A crocheted candle my mother had made, a ceramic boy and girl a friend's mother had given me back in the 1970s, and a wooden drummer boy (I don't remember how I acquired it, but, I've had it for years).

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments, concerns, prayers, and well wishes for my daughter.  She is feeling better, today.  No fever, still coughing, slightly headachy, very tired, but, otherwise feeling better than she did yesterday!  She messaged the doctor about yesterday's anxiety attack, asking if there were any additional steps she needed to take, but, hasn't heard back from the doctor.  The apartment management did send someone to fix the lock on her door.   I guess they had to glue and tape down something so she has some blue tape under the lock, but the lock itself has been fixed.  Daughter said she probably will not receive her security deposit back after this repair, but, I told her that it was OK.

My day was good.  It was cloudy and cool for the most part.  My doctor's office called to confirm my appointment for tomorrow, I chatted with my aunt, three of my cousins, and friend R, did a load of laundry, swept the kitchen and the bathroom, cleaned the litter box, started the car, walked around the garden (lots of evidence of raccoons digging up things!), did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen a little, made two more cards, and crocheted while I watched the news.  In between, I checked on my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Daughter had a better day, today
- Her apartment door lock was fixed
- Phone calls with family and friends
- Working appliances
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

Today's joyful activities included video chatting with my daughter, card making, and crocheting.

Plans for tomorrow include:

- Doctor's appointment in the morning
- Attending friend A's funeral in the afternoon
- M tending to the garden in the evening
- Putting in an order for groceries

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Glad that your daughter had a better day today than yesterday (which was a horrible day). You must have been on the phone most of the day with all of those phone calls. :)

    1. Thank you, June; my daughter says she is feeling a little better, today. Well enough to do a bit of crocheting. :) Ha, ha, yes, I was on the phone a lot, yesterday! Especially since my aunt called me 3 times! Each time she'd say that she was only calling to find out how my daughter is doing and then, she'd proceed to talk for at least an hour! LOL. She's lonely.

  2. I love your 'old' ornaments... ah i have tiny wooden nativity scene that I bought in The Hague, which must have been around 1982.

    1. Thank you, Jozien. Old ornaments have memories attached to them, don't they? Your wooden nativity scene sounds delightful and probably brings memories of being in The Hague. Do you display it every Christmas?

  3. I'm relieved, that probably nowhere near as much as you are, to hear that your daughter is steadily improving. That was a speedy repair to the door lock as well so she can feel safe in her apartment.

I like your decorations, especially the candle. I'll mention the idea to my sister as that's the sort of thing she likes to make.

I hope your doctor's appointment goes well tomorrow. Also that A's funeral isn't too distressing for you, but a wonderful celebration of her life. xx

    1. Thank you, Eileen. My daughter felt a little better today (enough to do a little crocheting) and having the lock fixed is a good thing.
Do you remember when I said that a friend of mine had texted me a photo of some ornaments my mother had made for her?
They were crocheted candles like the one I have. :)
The doctor's appt. went well and A's funeral - I think every one there cried when A's two daughters gave the eulogy, in turns.

  4. Good to know that your daughter is feeling better, I hope this continues. As for your raccoons, they seem to be doing a little unwanted gardening of their own!
I was able to pick up DH's present from the store this morning while he was out in town. It was funny, he offered to pick it up for me when I said I had something ordered there. That would have ruined the surprise!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Between the raccoons, the possums, the neighbor's chickens, the squirrels (there are several of them running around now!) and poor Mama Cat, the garden has turned into a zoo! :D
Oh, good thing you didn't have your DH pick up his present! I, on the other hand, have my daughter pick out and order her own gifts and she usually asks me what I want. She says I'm picky when it comes to gifts! :D

  5. I have only just read your last two posts. I'm sorry I didn't see yesterday's at the time, but I am glad to hear that it was not something worse, and that daughter will be fine. You have some lovely Christmas ornaments!

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella; this is a busy time of year for everyone to stay caught up on everyone's posts! Yes, my daughter is feeling a little better, now, thank you.
I have too many Christmas ornaments! But, I find it very difficult to downsize the collection!

  6. I'm so glad to hear your daughter is feeling better. I am curious to hear what the doctor thinks about it all.
Those are very sweet Christmas decorations you've had for years and years. They are the best kind I think. I don't think I mentioned yesterday how nice your Winter Village is - think I got side-tracked with the news about your daughter.
It's a nice village and running a string of lights under them works great.

    1. Thank you, Debra. The doctor had messaged her back, saying she was sorry my daughter had a panic attack, suggesting she scheduled an appointment for a check up, and enclosing some links to the resources offered by the clinic to deal with stress, anxiety, etc. My daughter said there was a questionnaire to fill out, which she was planning to do, today.
Thank you, Debra; I keep trying to downsize my Christmas decorations, but, it's difficult. My daughter has said she wants the village because she has fond memories of playing with all the pieces and arranging and rearranging all the figurines. She doesn't much care for my Santa collection, though! :D

  7. It's such a worry when our kids, even when they're adults!, are sick. Especially if they are not near you. Best wishes and love to you both xxxxxxxx

    1. Thank you, Ratnamurti. Our children will always be our children, no matter what their age and, as parents, we will always worry about them! But, she's handling things on her own and I have the satisfaction of knowing she will be able to manage on her own when I am no longer here to worry about her.

  8. I'm glad your daughter had a better day. I hope you are feeling okay as well. It must be a worry when you are not able to just pop round. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Yes, I'm feeling OK. I do wish I could be there just to be with her, but, of course, since she's having Covid, I can't do that, anyway.
