Card Making on Tuesday

Christmas Cards

I have spent a lovely day making Christmas cards.  I'm using scrapbooking supplies I have on hand and some old gift wrapping paper samples.  I don't have a paper cutter, so I am drawing lines with a ruler and pencil and cutting with a pair of scissors.  As a result, some of my papers don't have a very even edge, but, we'll just say that it adds to the handmade charm!  LOL.  The Christmas tree and the woven strips/quilt design were adapted from card designs I saw online.

In between making cards, I brought in the trash cans after they were emptied, fed the compost pile, started the car after not starting it for a week, cleaned the litter box, chatted with friend R, texted A's daughters to check on them, made fried rice with leftover rice for brunch and ate leftover macaroni and cheese with the last of the chicken curry for dinner.

This week's meal plan will include sauteed Italian sausages with bell peppers and tomatoes, etc. to be served with pasta or baked potatoes and turkey stir fry with carrots, snow peas, and broccoli, etc. to be served with rice.  I took a package of sausages and a small bag of turkey bits out from the freezer to thaw in the fridge.  I will cook them tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Weekly trash pick up
- The car started without any problems
- A working heater
- Phone calls and emails with friends
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was playing with paper and making cards!

Plans for tomorrow (Wednesday) include tending to the garden with M, vacuuming, and more card making.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. I like the tree card best, closely followed by the woven one. When I went into the loft to fetch down the Christmas decorations, I found 70 cards I made last year. I am not sending many cards this year so I shall repurpose these in other ways. But I agree, card making is a relaxing, therapeutic activity - and paper&glue is quicker than stitching! You have a good eye for colour, Bless

    1. Thank you, Angela. 70 cards! You have enough cards for at least a couple of years! Or, perhaps, you can make bundles of 10 cards to sell at a craft fair?

  2. I like your cards. It's hard to choose, but I think I like the quilt design the best. How many do you hope to make?

    1. Thank you, June. I want to make 15 cards. So far, I've made 5 which is pathetic when you consider what a mess I created in making those 5! LOL!

    1. Thank you, Jules; the cat paper was a small scrap of wrapping paper sample that I received, back when my daughter was in middle school! We had to order gift wrap, etc., for a school fund raiser and the catalog included some samples. Guess who kept them all these years! :D

  4. I like your cards. Do you have many more to make?

We've had an exciting day today ... the birth of my newest grand nephew! xx

    1. Congratulations on the newest addition to the family! How exciting!

Thank you; I have about 10 more cards to make. I hope to become faster as I go! :D

  5. Your cards are lovely, I rather like that that Christmas tree which has character! I really should think about making some myself. I had a busy morning changing the bed and washing the sheets and hanging them in the basement, doing a little bathroom cleaning, and vacuuming the bedroom. Then I sorted out my birthday bouquet for the 3rd time, snipping the ends to keep the flowers going. I need to look into some gift ideas on-line before heading to the stores.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. The Christmas tree card I based mine on had more strips of paper crisscrossing, but, I modified the design!
Sounds like you had a very productive day! But, now the bedroom and bathroom are done! I seem to have missed your birthday! I'm so sorry! Happy belated birthday!
Good luck with finding gift ideas! I thought I found one which looked really cute, but, then, I read the reviews and I realized that it would not work the way I had hoped it would! Besides, everything seems to be so expensive!

  6. I like your cards, they are very cheerful. I think the cats are my favourite. I have a paper trimmer/cutter & my edges are often a bit wonky, I just don't have a straight eye! My Wednesday included taking the car in for regular oil change & tire rotation. :)

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; very kind of you to say so! The cat paper was a scrap of gift wrap sample that I had in my stash for a good 15 or 16 years! I "knew" it would come in useful some day! LOL.

  7. Hi Bless. Your cards are lovely. I've not been feeling very well the past few days, so didn't keep up with blog responses. I have some rheumatism and it flared. Thank you for your reply about goal setting. It is very helpful. I do have set retirement goals, but most else just slides along. One goal I really need to make is an exercise plan. I do walk some, but need to do more. I'll work on it. Decluttering is another I need to improve on. Little by little I will get there!

    1. Thank you, Celie. I'm so sorry to hear that you have not been feeling well; hope the flare up has eased up and you feel better soon. Baby steps is the way to achieve those goals. More exercise and decluttering have been on my lists, too, for a long time! :D

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I think, if I plan to continue to make cards, I'll have to invest in a stamp that says, "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings"! My handwritten greetings looks like a kindergartener did them!

  9. SOunds like fun, and the results are worth it! That is the best kind of mess to make (and as for me, I wouldn't have bothered to clear up until all the cards were made!)

    1. I did enjoy making the cards. The mess was getting to me! But, I do admit to leaving a bit of a mess out on the table last night!

  10. The cards you made are so nice. What a nice thing it is to receive something handmade knowing the person took the time to do so.
You stretched your macaroni and cheese and curry well to get a few meals out of them. And your upcoming food plans sound really good.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I am having fun making the cards. :) I even made an envelope, yesterday, for one of the cards! :D
One packet of boxed mac and cheese will give me at least 4 servings and I usually cut 1 chicken thigh into two pieces (I cooked 2 chicken thighs, this time, so, 4 servings). A package of 5 sausages will give me at least 5 servings. Often, I will cook the whole package of sausages, then, freeze two or three of the cooked sausages. :)
