Warm on Wednesday

Napoleons Made by Neighbor S

Neighbor S called me around 5:30 p.m. to say she was getting ready to make napoleons, which are pastries made with puff pastry and a cream filling.  They are known by other names, too, but she called them napoleons.  Would my daughter and I like some?  Oh, would we ever!  I told her we would love some!  She called me a couple of hours later, after she had made them - she made some with the traditional cream filling, but, she made some with a chocolate filling, too, because she loves chocolate. Oh, we love chocolate, too!  I was instructed to keep them in the fridge overnight and eat them, tomorrow.  And to let her know which flavor I liked better.  Shh!  Don't tell S, but, my daughter and I sampled a piece from both the chocolate and the regular napoleons, before I put them in the fridge to keep overnight!  They were both very delicious!

Today was a warm day!  An afternoon high of 82F!  But, in the morning, when I woke up, the house was a chilly 61F and in the afternoon, even when it was 82F outside, it went up to only 70F inside.  I went outside to warm up!

My leg was back to normal, today.  There were a couple of twinges in the morning, but, that was all.  I am almost positive that I was dehydrated, yesterday.  I have been making sure I drank enough water, today, filling and refilling a glass that holds 16 fl. oz., four times.  I have drunk 7 cups of water, so far, and will drink the final cup, before bed, when I take my bedtime medications.  I am not including the cup of tea I had this morning, because tea is a diuretic.

M was here, this morning, to tend to the garden.  He didn't have to water the garden as Monday's rain soaked it well.  Instead, he concentrated on clearing up some of the overgrown plants at the back, pruning back the euphorbias and the curry leaf plants that are threatening to take over the garden!

In the afternoon, I sat outside and did some crewel embroidery.

Breakfast was a slice of toast with peanut butter and my homemade strawberry jam.  Lunch was a bowl of the Korean glass noodles that my daughter had made.  For dinner, I baked more seasoned potato wedges and the package of mild Italian sausages I had in the freezer, with some bell pepper strips mixed in with the sausages.  There are leftover sausages for another meal, tomorrow or on Friday.   Earlier in the day, I cut up the watermelon we named Walter III/Dandy Macaroni; I took half over to neighbor S and kept the other half for us.  There is one last watermelon still on the vine.  Bun Bun enjoyed the piece of watermelon rind I tossed out to him!  He's definitely at home in the back yard, now!

Today, I am grateful for:

- A warm day
- My leg is better
- Clean water to drink
- S sharing the delicious pastries she made
- M helping with the garden

Today's joyful activity was embroidering out in the garden.

Tomorrow is when the furnace inspector is supposed to check the furnace installation.  I still don't know what time to expect the inspector!  The furnace installers are supposed to call and let me know in the morning.  I hope the inspection goes well and the furnace passes inspection!  I am looking forward to being able to turn it on, when needed.  I also hope that the plasterer can patch up the walls, soon!

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  2. Your secret is safe with me, I won't tell a soul you couldn't wait to sample the goodies. I love chocolate too and don't know too many folk who don't. Good to know your leg pain has gone. I have no plans for today, we got rather wet out in the rain yesterday. Tilly's fur goes really curly when wet but she doesn't seem to mind as she likes to be dried off at home with a towel, it's a game to her.

    1. Thanks for not telling on me, Eileen! :D That's good that Tilly doesn't mind going out in the rain! I hope you have an enjoyable day, even if nothing is planned. :)

    1. The pastries were delicious! The furnace company called this morning to let me know that the inspector is scheduled to show up between 10:00 a.m. and noon; I'm hoping it will go well. Yes, I think Bun Bun has a new home in my garden!

  4. Did you ever figure out who Bun Bun supposedly belonged to?

    1. No; I'm assuming he belonged to the family who rented the house next to neighbor T's and they left their rabbits behind when they left!

  5. The thought of you two sampling the goodies like two naughty schoolgirls breaking the rules made be laugh. I won't tell on you though.

I'm so glad your leg pain has gone. I sometimes find it hard to drink enough to ensure adequate hydration but the tip to keep taking regular sips of fluids rather than glugging down a full glass in one go has helped me.

I've received the information for the pilot weight loss course so have printed it out and am reading it through. It's already obvious that I will need to review my meal plans for November and will also need to do an extra food shop asap. 😀

    1. Thank you for not telling on us, Eileen! It looked too good to wait to try it! :D

Yes, I remember reading that it was better to sip at the fluids rather than drink a whole glass at a sitting. Apparently, it gives the body more time to absorb it.

I'd be interested to hear how the pilot weight loss program works out for you! Hope you are able to revise the November meal plans, accordingly and get the extra food shopping done in the next couple of days!

  6. I turned on our heat this morning for the first time this year and I was wondering what was going on with your furnace. I know it has gotten chilly at times and you like to be warm!
I hope it is a quick turnaround from when they inspect it today to when your furnace contractor gets things all done for you.

    1. The furnace company called this morning and said the inspector will be out between 10:00 a.m. and noon. The company representative is already here (he arrived at 9:30 a.m. and took photos of the furnace). I've already had a discussion with him about the plastering (he's not the one to do it), because the lady who called to tell me about the inspector arriving, seemed to be surprised to hear that there was plastering to be done, too! I'm a bit perturbed because the written contract doesn't mention plastering...my fault, I suppose, for not noticing that, earlier and insisting on the sales rep. writing it in. Sigh.

  7. I'm not surprised you and your daughter sneaked an advance sampling of the goodies. I'm surprised you managed to hold off eating the whole lot! They certainly sound delicious. I discovered 6-packs of small Boston Cream doughnuts in the supermarket which are surprisingly good for something commercial and they freeze well. The size is good as the large ones at the local doughnut franchise are too much and also have less cream filling in proportion to the dough.

    1. The pastries looked so good we had to try them! We are looking forward to having the rest, tonight! Ooh, those Boston cream doughnuts sound good, too! :)

  8. Not ready for it to be that hot yet!
Lovely of neighbour to share their baking.
I hope the leg doesn't pain you too much. I have been having leg cramps again so have to remind myself to exercise and make sure I drink more water.

    1. It was even warmer, today, and I loved it! :D It was very nice of neighbor to share her baking; the pastries were delicious! My leg pain went away and I have been making sure to drink enough water. One of my readers mentioned that a friend of hers uses a magnesium cream for leg cramps - maybe something to look into?
