Lois and Clark on Wednesday

Lois (9/29)

Clark (9/29)

Not Lewis and Clark who led an expedition, but Lois and Clark.  They are both coming along well, as you can see.  I am thinking of potting up Clark this Friday.

Today, M watered the garden in the morning and agreed to continue tending to the garden twice a week in October, too.

In the afternoon, I went across to neighbor S's and helped her with planting the two succulent cuttings I gave her.  Actually, N did the digging and planting while S and I supervised!  LOL.  Afterwards, S walked back with me for a guided tour of the garden!  When we finished the tour and went back to the front, the neighbor's little black and white dog was back at its favorite spot in my front garden (no leash, of course), barking his head off at me!  It didn't seem to understand, "Go away!" or "Shoo!".  There was someone in the neighbor's front garden (a visitor, I believe) and I told him I didn't want the dog in my garden; he called to it in Spanish and it went back.

Later in the afternoon, I scrubbed the stove top, including under the burners.  Then, I washed a sinkful of dishes!

Dinner was fried rice to use up some of the odds and ends of leftovers - half a sausage, a few pieces of pork roast, the last small piece of chicken, etc., all cut up and added to leftover rice, along with the last egg in one of the egg cartons (there is another carton of 18 eggs in the fridge).  Of course, I spilled the fried rice on the stove top as I was stirring it!  Which meant I had to clean the stove top, again, after I finished the dinner dishes!  LOL.

Today, I am grateful for:

- M being willing to tend to the garden twice a week
- Being able to help S and N plant the succulent cuttings
- The gas company calling to remind me of tomorrow's appointment
- Leftovers turned into fried rice!
- A warmer day

Today's joyful activity was giving S a tour of the garden.

Plans for tomorrow include clearing the laundry closet so the gas service technician can access the dryer relatively easily.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

    1. LOL! I am certainly hoping they are! We shall see how they do during our winter! :)

  2. Ah maybe time to learn a few go away phrases in Spanish to be rid of the pesky dog (col). We have a calico cat that likes to use my front garden as her litter box. Knowing cats, the language I use with her is the garden hose & a quick squirt of water! Lois & Clark, let's hope that they both have Super(man) qualities & grow strong & healthy.

    1. Ha, ha, maybe! "Vete! Mi jardin es no tu jardin!" LOL! When I spent a few months in Malaysia, I learned a few phrases of Malay; when I lived in Taiwan, I learned some Mandarin, and when I lived in Hong Kong, I learned some Cantonese, as well. When I came to the US, I remember thinking, well, at least I already know the language! But, apparently, not! :D

Thank you; I hope they will both grow well! :)

  3. I thought of you this morning. I went shopping after I'd seen the doctor and the first thing I saw was a display of mini watermelons. They were only about 5 inches in diameter and looked so cute, but I didn't have enough money with me to buy one. Maybe next time if they are still there.

Poor N, being supervised by you and S ... I feel for her! I'm considering adding some succulents to my garden next year. They are on the list and time will tell if they make the final selection. I'm not sure how well they will do in partial shade.

Lois and Clark are both looking healthy. I hope being planted out doesn't upset Clark! Are you still managing to keep the bunnies out of the garden?

    1. Aw, thank you for thinking of me when you saw the mini watermelons! I hope you will be able to buy one, next time. :)

Ha, ha, I did wonder why N declined a second tour of the garden with her mother; she mentioned something about making soup, but, I think she might have needed to recover from the planting! :D There are quite a few succulents, such as aeonium, aloe vera, jade plants, etc., that do well in partial shade/shade. The aeonium I grow in the sun get scorched in the summer, while those growing in a shadier spot do well. I'm not sure how they'll do in your winters, however.

I hope Clark will adjust to being planted out - I might have to keep him indoors for a bit after being potted up and then, take him outside! Lois might prove to be hardier than Clark! So far, the bunnies haven't made it into the backyard after I put up the barricades - at least, I haven't seen them there, yet!

  4. So glad Lois and Clark are thriving!
And how nice to be in a supervisory role instead of the digger!

  5. Clark is starting to look very handsome with his glossy, green leaves! What is Lois growing in? Somehow I thought she was in a flower bed, but this looks like plastic tub or something.

    1. Clark seems to be doing well, doesn't he? Lois is growing in an old plastic flower pot. It is so old that it is starting to crack, so, Lois might get planted in the ground next spring, if things turn out well. :)

  6. I can see why you wouldn't want the neighbor's dog in your garden. Rice is such a great base for using up leftovers. I have a batch of Mexican rice simmering on the stove right now. Can't wait for lunch!

    1. Your lunch sounds delicious!

I don't want to encourage the neighbor's dog to be in my yard if I can help it. It's not like they pick up after it, or anything. Besides, I don't know how friendly it is, especially not when it is barking at me as if I was trespassing in my own yard!

  7. How nice to be able to give S the garden tour. As for the neighbour's dog, you will just have to learn the Spanish for "go away" or similar expressions. It would be fun to try out on him. This afternoon the door bell rang a couple of times and it was DH ringing on behalf of the dog next door, so I would come and give him his treats! Then we had a short game of runaround (the dog, not DH 😀)

    1. It was fun to show S around the garden. Yes, I guess I'll have to try out my Spanish on the dog! With my luck, he might think I said, "Attack" or something! :D

Too funny your DH ringing the door bell on behalf of the dog! Ha, ha, oh I'm glad you clarified who was running around! :D

  8. Fried rice from leftovers is the best. :)

I had a busy Wednesday. But Thursday is ok so far. Right now I have online office hours and in between students.

    1. Leftovers do make the best fried rice, don't they?

I'm glad you are having a not-too-busy Thursday. I hope you will have time to relax a bit over the weekend. Thank you for taking the time to comment, Nil. :)

  9. I love that in addition to food, you are sharing plants with your neighbor.
Are these pieces from the plants your coworker gave you?
That plant has really spread the love.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, they are cuttings from the plants my supervisor gave me. :) I've given cuttings of it to one of my cousins, too. It is easy to grow and spreads fairly quickly. :)
