Meet Clark!

Clark the Mango Seedling

The mango seed that I had kept in a jar of water to root has sprouted!  We have a mango seedling!  It is about a week old and already has two sets of leaves!  It measures about three inches in height from the very base of its stem and each leaf is about one inch long.  I'm thrilled!  I have decided to name it Clark.

Why Clark?

Well, the seed is from a variety of mangos named Kent.  So, the name Clark seemed a good choice!  Clark Kent!*

The seeds I planted in the pots haven't done anything, so, Clark will be kept in the jar of water for now and potted up later.  He might spend his first winter as an indoor plant and be taken outside next spring.  Keeping my fingers crossed that he will continue to grow and thrive!

*Clark Kent is the legal name of Superman!

  1. I have an avocado stone balanced in a jar with toothpicks like this. Mine has not sprouted - but I'll wait a little longer just in case

    1. Avocados can take a few weeks to sprout. Give it a little more time and hopefully, it will sprout!

  3. Hello Clark. Great name! Life is full of coincidences. Neighbour C mentioned yesterday that she is currently trying to germinate a mango seed.

    1. Oh, I hope her mango seed germinates for her! Will she grow it as a houseplant?

    2. I don't think she's thought that far ahead. She doesn't have much luck with her gardening attempts so if it grows, it'll be a miracle 😂

  4. Great Success! I hope you can determine Clark's kryptonite so you can keep him away from it ;)

    1. Thank you! I hope his kryptonite isn't soil! I often have trouble getting water sprouted plants to adapt to growing in a drier medium!

  5. Clark is looking good! I remember, now that I have seen "his" leaves, that I once grew a mango plant from a seed but I never kept it for long, I don't remember why.

    1. Thank you! I wonder why you didn't keep your mango plant, but, maybe it didn't do too well after some time? I've had avocado plants that didn't thrive after they sprouted.

  6. I love it! I've just planted a pear seed to see if it will grow. I've brought my little lemon trees indoors for the cooler months, they appear to be doing well. X
