Rainy Days and Mondays

We like to curl up and sleep on rainy days

There was a little sunshine in the morning, but, it rained in the afternoon.  Afterwards, it stayed cloudy and overcast, the rest of the day and I didn't go for a walk.  My half-sister called me in the afternoon and I had a nice chat with her.

I called my neighbor T to ask her if she would like a few oranges from my tree, but, she declined.  I also asked her if she needed help with taking her trash cans to the curb, but, she said not this week.  I took two of my trash cans (the yard waste bin and the trash bin; the recycling bin didn't need to be emptied) to the curb.  Then, I started the car and allowed it to run for a bit.  I haven't driven it since Wednesday and I didn't want the battery to die!

Today, I dusted the living room and the dining area, practiced the piano, did some paperwork, cleaned the fridge, did the dishes, watched news, and finished knitting the socks.

I called friend R and spoke with her for a bit, in the evening.

Breakfast was a cup of the yogurt M had brought me.  Lunch was an egg salad sandwich and some potato chips!  For dinner, I cooked milk rice and a spicy onion sambol.  Milk rice is usually eaten at breakfast, but, that is what I wanted for dinner.  I was going to eat it with the last of the shrimp curry, but, decided that the spicy onion sambol was what I wanted with it.  I ate the rest of the cucumber salad, afterwards.  Snacks have included tea biscuits and almonds.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in
- Sunshine and rain
- The car started without any problems
- Phone calls with family and friends
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

Monday's To Do List:
- Dust living room & dining area - DONE
- Clean the fridge - DONE
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up - DONE
- Paperwork - DID SOME

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Dust family room and my bedroom

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. Monday; self isolating. Tuesday self isolating... and so on. Doing some house work, some knitting and jigsaws. Very little energy. Keeping in touch with people through WhatsApp, Facebook and blogging. Daily phone call with daughters. Life is quite surreal...

    1. Yes, staying home and not interacting in person with others is very different, isn't it? I hope you are resting and recovering from your flu, Angela. (((HUGS)))

  2. Hi BLess, your day sounds nice. That was sweet of you to offer the oranges and the help to your friend. Please keep checking in on her, I have a feeling she is very overwhelmed and scared.

Our Monday was interesting since we are no under a Stay Home Stay Safe order from our state. That is a nice way to say we are in a statewide lockdown for the most part. It was very needed to help slow this awful virus down.

I'm not sure of my plans for Tuesday. It depends on if Jeff comes home in the morning and tells me he is off for the next two weeks at least. We shall see.

Love you my friend and take care.

    1. Thank you, Debbie. I call this neighbor several times a week to check on her.

I know you've been preparing for this eventuality (being asked to shelter in place) from when we first heard about this virus. I hope you and Jeff will be safe and well and your family, too. Thank you for the well wishes, Debbie; you take care, too.

  4. I had to start my car yesterday too. I realized I hadn't driven since Thursday so I let it run for about 20 minutes while I was outside working in the yard - in 35 degree weather!
Followed by some snow showers. Then we had blowing wind and rain into the night.
A very unsettling day weather wise making me happy to be warm and safe at home.

    1. Oh, wow, Debra! That's cold to be working in the yard! Weather like that would make me very happy to be home, safe and warm! Here I am, complaining because it is 50F and cloudy! LOL!

  5. Excuse me, Bless. But we have been patiently waiting for you to finish those socks so that we can finally get to see them. AND THEN, NO PHOTO. That was kind of mean, don't you think? LOL.

It is so lovely of you to check in with your neighbour, offering to help her while remaining safe yourself. This morning is my street collection for garbage, but I don't think I have even one small grocery bag full. It doesn't seem worth the trip to the curb, but I will drag the bin to the street anyways, especially since I don't have to pay for a garbage tag where I live.

This morning I hope to drag myself out of my chair and tidy up some. I will ask Alexa to crack the whip and play some inspiring "git 'er done" music for inspiration.

    1. Ha, ha, patience is a virtue, they say! I did take a photo of the socks, last night, but, the quality of the photo left a lot to be desired. So, I didn't publish it. :)

I get charged a flat rate for trash pick up, whether I put a bin out for collection or not. Most weeks, I have my regular trash can and the yard waste bin out for collecting. I wait until the recycling bin is at least 3/4 full, before I take that out to the curb.

I hope you'll share Alexa's "git'er done" music playlist! The only song I listened to yesterday was "Standing in the Need of Prayer".

  6. Oranges fresh off the tree sound so wonderful. I have only had one. I was visiting a friend's father, who had an orange grove in FL, and he cut one for us and we ate it right there. It was sooo good.

We had a rainy day yesterday, also. It was a cold (40's) and rainy day, which are no fun. But it looks dry this morning.

    1. The fresh oranges are wonderful. I was planning to send some to my daughter (in addition to what she was able to take with her, when she went back), but, that requires a trip to the post office and my daughter doesn't want me to leave the house!

I hope you have better weather, today, Live and Learn. It's not raining, here, yet, but, it is very cloudy.

  7. I'm carrying on with meal planning. I'd like to try a couple of different recipes so will be enjoying myself searching online for recipes.

It's sunny here today so I am hoping to get the rest of the WPSH photos sorted out.

    1. Sounds like you are being very productive, Eileen. I'm glad you are having sunshine; makes the whole day seem better, somehow, doesn't it? Have fun searching for recipes and sorting out the WPSH photos. :)

  8. It's funny you should mention oranges today as I was just talking to Lily about the tree you have in your garden. Today's home schooling topic was searching online to find out where different fruits come from, so she drew pictures of them and stuck them on our large world map. X

  9. I really should organize myself and rearrange things around here, so this 'downtime' becomes productive- instead I flit from one thing to another with zero to show for my time- eventually even I will remember this is just a bump in the road (maybe)- we are all settling down to the reality of Whitney's situation, but our minds and hearts are wanting the relief of denial-
How lucky you are with your fruit trees- at my place there is a truly prolific fig tree and two peach trees that produce when it suits them- enjoy a fresh orange for me-
Hope you are feeling well ... do take care-
As always, all of my fondest wishes to you and your daughter-
    Barb

    1. This is a very stressful time for all of us, Barb, and you have even more stress and sadness due to Whitney's situation. I don't think I'd be able to organize and rearrange anything, under the circumstances! It's a time for prayer and reflection, and quiet acceptance. Please know that I am keeping you, Whitney, and the rest of your family in my prayers. If you'd like me to put out a request for prayers, please let me know; I will be more than happy to do so.

I had to laugh about the two peach trees that produce when it suits them! Last year, the little peach tree I planted started out so well and then, dropped all the fruit before they were even walnut sized! This year, too, we have some fruit formed and we have thinned some of them in the hope of having at least a few peaches mature!

Sending my best wishes and prayers to you and yours, Barb. Take care of yourself during this stressful time.

  11. I'm actually starting to get used to this new life, and am kind of enjoying all of the cooking and baking. It is shocking and sad to read the news, but I focus on what I have, and enjoy each day. I finished the heel on my sock today, chatted with a couple of nice neighbors, rode my bike and walked Lula, and will do yoga tonight. I am making hash browns for dinner. Potatoes are cheap and easy.

  12. Dancer is in a classic cat snooze position and he looks very comfortable!
Our garbage can has to go out to the road on Mondays, too, but this time there was a snag. The can was frozen into the ground just inside the woodshed, where some snow had melted and flowed inside, and couldn't be moved. So the bag got tied as usual and then was put out to the road sans can. Thank goodness when I checked after the men came this morning, there were no bits of ripped bag and contents, so the crows and dogs must have been on spring break!

    1. He does look comfortable, doesn't he? That's good that the garbage bag was taken. Over here, they drive past in a big truck, a mechanized arm like thing comes out and pincers at the end of the arm grab the trash cans, hoist them up and dump the contents into the truck and set the cans down. The person driving the truck rarely get down, if ever. I doubt very much if they will collect trash in a bag!

  13. Last night I had an egg salad for dinner. I was thinking about tomorrow’s breakfast and your post reminded me that I didn’t make milk rice for a while. So, it’s milk rice for breakfast!
Stay safe, Bless. Hope your daughter is also doing well.

    1. Ha, ha, it seems like we are all having egg salad, these days! Milk rice for breakfast is good - I had leftovers from last night's milk rice for my breakfast, today. :)

Thank you, Nil. I'm staying at home and trying not to stress. Daughter is doing well. She sent me a picture of what she cooked, tonight - rice, mackerel curry, bonchi thel dala (sauteed green beans), and kadala (garbanzo beans). :)
