Rain and Lizards on Sunday

Lizard

We had sunshine in the morning.  I slept in, then, checked emails and replied to blog comments while having my morning cup of tea.  I wasn't very hungry for breakfast, so, I picked a fresh orange from the tree and had that for breakfast.  Daughter called to say good morning (she is quite well, today) and I called neighbor T to check on her since she didn't call me for our usual Sunday morning chat (she said she was fine, but, forgot the time as she was doing some housework).  Then, I practiced the piano.

I heard Dancer playing with something by the china cabinet in the dining area.  I thought he was playing with one of his toys - he loves to bat at a coiled up piece of pipe cleaner or a wadded up piece of paper.  I thought he might have put it under the china cabinet as he kept trying to reach under it.  Then, as I watched him, something ran out from under the china cabinet and hid under the other shelving unit!  Dancer managed to get it out and it turned out to be a lizard!  Eek!  I quickly swept it up with my broom and dust pan and carried it outside.  I remembered to take a photo of it, before it escaped into the grass!  I am not quite sure what kind of lizard it is, but, it is probably a California Alligator Lizard and it looks like it lost part of its tail sometime ago!  It was probably about four inches long.  I have no idea how it came inside the house!  But, good job finding it, Dancer!

I had just put on my pair of shoes to go for my afternoon walk, when it started drizzling and soon, it began raining in earnest.  It is still raining as I type this at 10:40 p.m.

I had a late lunch (around 4:00 p.m.) of rice, shrimp curry, the last of the green beans I had cooked, and freshly cooked spicy sauteed potato.  Then, I watched news and the Mayor's press conference.  I continued to knit on my socks while I watched the news.  I think I will have enough of the wool to finish both socks without any problem.

Later, I called friend R to check on her and spoke with cousin P, too.  Then, I video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Good health
- Sunshine in the morning
- Rain for the garden
- Fresh oranges from the garden
- Keeping in touch with friends and family

Today's joyful activities were knitting and chatting with my daughter.

Monday's To Do List:
- Dust living room & dining area
- Clean the fridge
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up
- Paperwork

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. You are brave, dealing with the lizard and well done to Dancer ... what a hero!

It's a lovely sunny day here so I will walk around the back garden for some fresh air this afternoon. I may go out for a walk tonight after the online choir. I have to post the Easter cards so providing the streets are empty I'll do a 15 minute walk as well.

Apart from that, the most important task is to finish listing everything in the garage freezer. I'll be able to relax more once I know exactly how much food I have.

    1. LOL, thank you, Eileen. Dancer kept looking to see where his toy went!

I'm glad you are having a sunny day, and your plans to walk in the garden and maybe talk a walk, later, if the streets are empty, sound good. It's a dull day, here; cloudy, but, so far, no rain. I, too, need to inventory my freezer (I have a side by side fridge/freezer) and see what I have in there!

  2. I'd have the shock of my life if I discovered a lizard in the house, although it would possibly make a change from the usual mice!
I'm glad your daughter is feeling much better. X

    1. I've seen lizards in my garage, but, this is the first one I've found inside the house. I think I prefer lizards to mice, although I once had a couple of mice, as well.

Thank you, Jules. It must have been a tension headache, although she maintains she's not stressed. But, I'm very thankful that it wasn't a sign of something to do with this virus that's going around!

  3. You do live an exciting life! Far more exciting than mine right now. You seem to be a magnate for animals.... dogs in the front, feral kitties in the back, and lizards inside.

You are getting your share of rain, aren't you? Your garden will be taking off with a riot of colour. World weather patterns are getting kind of screwy, aren't they? But we can accept them as blessings and adapt our lives accordingly. We may not like change, but we need to accept change to become more resilient.

    1. I do live an exciting life, don't I? LOL. But, you have snow to shovel and that sounds exciting to me. :)

Ah, yes, I seem to attract animals - don't forget the birds that try to nest in my garage and in my porch light!

We had one of the driest Februaries on record and we worried about a possible drought; now, we are having a very wet March! I'm not complaining too much, because we do need the rain. Plus, I'm saving on my water bill, since I don't need to water the garden as much!

Yes, change - the one constant in life is change! The more we can adapt to change, the happier we will be. :)

  4. So glad to hear that your daughter is better. Your story about Dancer's "friend" took me back years to the time when one of our cats was closely watching the skirt of a small chair near the door of a car port renovated into a room for DS to play in. I discovered a large toad underneath the chair!
We really enjoyed Skyping with the family yesterday and telling DGD a tale about a family wedding in 1945!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; yes, she's feeling fine, now. :)

Cats are good at discovering unexpected visitors, aren't they?

I'm glad you enjoyed Skyping with the family, Bushlady, and sharing family stories with DGD. It's so wonderful that we can visit online, isn't it?

  5. Dancer! You are such a good boy.
So brave and quite the warrior too.

Do things like that bother you, Bless? Mice, Lizards, etc.?
I think I would've done a bit of a scaredy-cat-girly-screamy-thing if that were me. lol

    1. Dancer says thank you, and to let you know that Mummy rewarded him with a spoonful of tuna for his efforts! LOL.

I was fine with the lizard, but, I don't like to deal with mice! I'd be screaming the whole time I'd be running with my broom after the mouse! LOL. I did have a couple of mice in the house, after some heavy rain, one time (it was before we had Dancer, though). I had to set traps for them and disposing of the trapped mice, afterwards, was not pleasant!

  6. Yes good Dancer, good cat finding that home invader. I think should I have found him, you would have heard me screeching all the way from here. Glad to hear that your daughter is well. These days, I think many of us panic at any new twinge or cough, OK it's probably just me.

    1. Yes, good guard cat, Dancer! I am better at handling lizards than at handling mice!

Thank you, yes, my daughter is fine, now. It's not only you; this new virus has us all on edge and worried.

  7. When we lived in New Orleans, we had frequent lizard visitors inside. The cats like to hunt them, but as lizards lose their tail as a defense mechanism, we found a lot more tails than the actual lizards. Maybe they escaped, tail-less, the same way they got in.

    1. As far as I know, this is the first and only lizard that's come inside, but, maybe there were others and I just didn't realize. I guess it came in to get out of the rain!
