Dancer's Covid-19 Coping Tips

Hi Blog Friends!

Hi, Blog Friends, it's me, Dancer!  When Mummy told me that there is a scary virus going around that is making a lot of people ill, I didn't get too worried.  Because I knew that my Mummy will take good care of me and keep me safe.

Even when she said that we all needed to stay at home to make sure we don't get infected by the virus or give it to anyone else, I didn't get too worried.  I reminded Mummy that I stay home, anyway, because I am an indoor cat and, although I would like to go outside, sometimes, to play with all those garden cats who call me to come out to play with them, she doesn't allow me to go outside and scolds me when I try to sneak out!

But, when Mummy said we should "shelter in place", I thought she meant I should do this:

"Shelter in place like this?"

Then, she explained that it meant we should simply stay at home, without going to too many places where there are lots of people and people should maintain some distance from other people to prevent the spread of the virus from one person to another.  Well, that's alright, then; I usually hide under the bed to avoid people when they come to our house, anyway!

Mummy also said that a lot of people are feeling worried and anxious about how quickly the virus has been spreading and all the changes it has made in their lives, including not being able to go to work.  That made me feel sad.

Mummy said that a lot of people are feeling stressed trying to cope with the impact of the virus.  I asked Mummy what I could do to help, because, as you all know, I like to help.  Mummy said that maybe I could share some tips on how to cope with the stress.  Apparently, a lot of people, including herself, are having trouble with sleeping.  Well, you know that I like to sleep and I have no trouble sleeping.  So, here's my first tip on how to cope with Covid-19 (that's the name people have given this virus).

Dancer's Covid-19 Coping Tip #1:  Afternoon naps on the sofa in the sunshine!

Dancer's Tip #1
Sleep is good; it is restorative and helps the body to heal.  But, if worries and stress are keeping you up at night (Mummy was up all night, last night, and didn't go to sleep until 5:30 a.m.!), then, afternoon naps are the next best thing!  Especially if you can find a sofa with the afternoon sun shining on it and there's a crocheted blanket to cuddle up to.

(Mummy's note: Dancer must have dreamt that he was fighting the Covid-19 virus because he woke from this nap with a start and hissed!  Then, he looked around rather confusedly, and went back to sleep!)

So, don't worry, friends, we are in this virus pandemic together and we will get through it, together.  Mummy said that if my blog friends like my helpful tips, I may post more of my tips for coping in the coming days and weeks.  Hope you sleep well, tonight.  But, if not, hope this tip about naps will help.

Purrs and Meows,

Dancer

  1. Dear Dancer-
I am so glad that you have all your virus protection info in place and you are adhering to the guidelines- surely your compliance is a great help to your mommy-I am sorry she is having trouble sleeping (I think she is, by nature, quite a 'night owl' regardless) so try to make her get plenty of rest-
By the way, let me suggest ... more tuna-nothing keeps a handsome cat like you in a better frame of mind than frequent doses of tuna-
I look forward to your next communication-

    1. Dear Barb, thank you! That's what I tell Mummy - more tuna! But, she says we have to ration it now, because she only has so many cans of it in the cupboard and she doesn't know when she can go out next to get more! Still, I run to the kitchen whenever she goes there and meow for tuna! Sometimes, if I bug her enough, she gives in and lets me have a bit more. :)

  2. Oh, to be a cat. We should all try to be more like Dancer.
Weirdly I have not had any trouble sleeping since the lockdown. Could it be because I have little control over anythino and much like a child I just have to do as I'm told? X

    1. I think you are onto something, there, Jules. You are right - we have little control over anything, other than our own actions. We should do as we are told...except, sometimes, what we are told to do varies from who is telling us what to do and when! Then, it becomes a bit confusing and we are left wondering what to do!

  3. How lovely to have a Dancer in your life. Dancer, incidentally seems rather wise. I only have a cricket living with me. He comes out at night time and stares at me. I stare lovingly back.

    1. Yes, Dancer is a wise cat! He knows what's important - tuna and naps! And a clean litter box! LOL. Too funny about the cricket!

  4. Thank you Dancer. It's good to know you are taking the pandemic seriously and following the guidance. You obviously understand social distancing and the photos demonstrate your ability to nap anywhere. Take good care of Mummy ... maybe sing along with her to encourage her piano practice, I know she'll like that!

    1. You're welcome, Eileen. Mummy hasn't been playing the songs I like to sing to, lately. But, I sing to her when she's cooking! :)

  5. Dancer,
Fellow cats, Annie and Leo here. We don't know what all of the fuss is about. As long as we're fed and there's an occasional sunbeam to sleep in, we're very happy to stay at home. However, my human's are getting bored so we throw in some toy chasing to entertain them then and again. It interrupts our lounging time, but I guess it's the least we can do. You keep taking care of Mummy and we'll do what we can here.

    1. Hi Annie and Leo! So nice of you to comment! You are both right about the toy chasing! When my mummy is bored, she brings out that red light and expects me to entertain her by trying to catch it. Good to know you are both taking good care of your humans. Enjoy your naps!

  7. Dear Dancer,

You are such a good kitty - and so informed when it comes to covid-19. You must be a news watcher like your Mommy

I am not a napper usually. But if I do decide to take one I'm going to remember your napping style and try to emulate it.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I do keep her company when she watches news. Just to let her know that it's OK, she's not alone, I'm there with her.

Naps are very good to take, especially if there is a little sun and you have a cozy crocheted blanket to snuggle. :)

  8. I've been noticing that all of the animals around me are very relaxed. My neighbors' horses still come right up to me and want to be petted. Lula is as affectionate as ever. The birds are happily bathing in the fresh water that I put in their birdbath. I think the difference is, they don't have egos, like we do. Love these photos of Dancer. I hope you are able to get some sleep. I have been sleeping really well, thankfully. That's when I forget about it all...

    1. Yes, most animals aren't bothered by the concerns we humans have, are they? :)

I was able to have a goodnight's sleep, last night, thank you. I might even have taken a short nap this afternoon, too! Following Dancer's tips, as you can see. :D

  9. Well, Dancer, your wisdom and feline expertise are once again helping Mummy and the rest of us to cope! I don't have any kitties to give advice so I am happy to read yours. We try to keep things on an even keel here but yesterday when I opened the front door to feed a peanut to one of my squirrel friends (at least they pretend to be friends), he rushed inside and then panicked, threw himself at the sidelight a couple of times banging his little head before he figured out that the door was open beside it! He did still get his peanut as I threw it out on the porch for him.

    1. Ha, ha, Bushlady, your squirrel friend's antics are making Mummy and me laugh! We used to occasionally get one of the outside kitties run inside (they did that when they were still kittens) and Mummy would run behind them screaming about bringing fleas inside! I'd stay under the table and watch the fun! You'd laugh, too, if you saw my Mummy run! :D

  10. Dancer is a very smart kitty cat, but we knew that already. Having a pet in the house is good for reducing stress. Tomorrow I will have Rocky to dog-sit, so I will enjoy the benefits of having him around. We may also have the opportunity of having a nap.

    1. Pets are good stress relievers, aren't they? I'm glad you get to have Rocky visit you to make sure you get some cuddles and naps. :)

  11. Hello Dancer, I haven't been here for a long time, but I am glad to see that you are helping your mum so much! I have two kitties who also are great at taking naps, lol. Oh dancer my kitties Lucy and Zana also adore Tuna and could live quite happily on forever.
