Still Resting on Monday

Dancer letting the blood flow to his head!

Apparently, today is National Hug Your Cat Day!  Dancer tolerated a hug from me, but I couldn't take a picture.  This is him, half hanging off the side of daughter's bed, a couple of days ago.

Today, I slept till 10:30 a.m. and got another 8 hrs. of sleep, for a change.  I woke up once at about 6:45 a.m., feeling energetic, but went back to sleep.  When I woke up, later, I felt lethargic!

I spent a relaxed morning, replying to blog comments and commenting on other blogs.

I didn't feel like going grocery shopping, so I checked the fridge and freezer and decided I could wait on the grocery shopping.  I might need milk and, maybe bread, before the end of the week, but I can wait until the weekend to go grocery shopping.    Besides, I need to use up what I have in the fridge because I've been buying too much and things have been going bad before I can use them up!

I received a letter authorizing the additional tests that the doctor had wanted me to do, so I called the hospital and made the appointments.  That means I have five medical appointments scheduled for this month!

In the afternoon, I tidied and dusted the living room and later, I emptied the waste baskets and took the trash cans to the curb, did the dishes, and cooked dinner.

Brunch had been tuna salad on crackers (5 crackers make a serving, according to the box) with half an apple, sliced.  Later, around tea time, I got hungry and had a tuna salad sandwich, with the rest of the tuna salad!  When it was time to cook dinner, I looked in the freezer and decided on fish!  I guess today was my day to eat fish!

The fish I cooked is a type of mackerel called Seer fish or King fish; I buy it frozen from the Sri Lankan store.  I cooked one large fish steak with sliced onions and tomatoes.  I cooked carrots and frozen green peas and red skinned potatoes to accompany it:

Dinner: Fish, carrots, green peas, potatoes

I'll take some of the leftovers for my lunch, tomorrow.  There is enough fish left over for three more servings although the sides are probably enough for one, maybe two, meals.

I had the remaining half of the apple from brunch, for dessert.

I also called one of my friends to check on her husband, who had undergone a biopsy on Friday.  They received the results today and have an appointment with the doctor, next week.

Later in the evening, I replied to a friend's email and video chatted with daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another day in which to rest
- 8 hours of sleep
- The abundance that is in my fridge and freezer
- Getting my medical appointments scheduled
- What I was able to accomplish today.

Because I didn't go grocery shopping and didn't do a couple of other things I had on my to do list for today, I felt I didn't do much, today.  But, when I spoke with daughter, she pointed out that I had, in fact, done quite a lot!  What didn't get done will be done later.

    1. Isn't it? I find him in the oddest positions, at times. I half expected him to fall off the bed, that time, but he didn't!

  2. Who thought up Hug Your Cat Day? Most cats wouldn't like hugging at all. It should be something like Feed Me an Extra Time Day or Play With Me Day. I agree with your daughter. It sounds like to me that you had a very productive day. When it feels like I didn't get anything done, I tell myself that slow and steady wins the race.

    1. Yes, I think Dancer would much prefer a Feed Me an Extra Time Day, even more than a Play With Me Day or Hug Me Day! Every time I go to the kitchen, he's there, meowing hopefully!

I got all but 3 1/2 things on my list done but, because I didn't finish the list, I felt I didn't get anything done! It's ridiculous, isn't it? I need to make shorter lists! LOL.

  3. Love the photo of your cat! I love how they can sleep in the most awkward looking positions. Sounds like after a slow start you got quite a bit done! Hope all the appointments go well.

    1. They do find the oddest positions in which to sleep, don't they? Yes, I did get most of my list done. I need to focus on what I did do and not what I didn't do!

Thank you; I want to get all the important screening tests done before insurance changes upon retirement.

  4. You're going to be spending a lot of time at the hospital - is your employer good at giving you time off for this or do you have to use annual leave?

    1. Eileen, I have partially paid (at the rate of 75% of my regular hourly pay) sick leave to cover the medical appointments, thank goodness! Otherwise, of course, I'd take vacation time off.

  5. You really have been busy! It's fun to see how long we can go without shopping. With a bit of ingenuity it is often possible to concoct some kind of meal from what we have in.
My cat wasn't a great lover of hugs and only tolerated us for a moment or two.

    1. Since I shop with an eye towards having enough in the pantry to suffice for several days, if not weeks, in case of an emergency (I live in earthquake country), I can usually go for a couple of weeks without grocery shopping. The only problem with that is running short of fresh milk (I have tinned milk in the pantry), fresh produce (I have cans of fruit and vegetables), and bread (although I have flour and yeast to make bread, if needed). I have plenty of canned fish, too, but don't have a lot of canned meat - need to remedy that!

  6. Grocery shopping takes a big chunk of time out of the day, so you may not have been able to get as much done as you did. I really have to be in the mood, and/or going out in the car anyway to do my shopping. For instance, I could have gone out today to pick up some groceries but tomorrow I have to go out for a doctor's appointment, so I will save myself a trip. By staying home, I was able to tackle a big project.

    1. I usually enjoy grocery shopping, but, yesterday, I just couldn't persuade myself to go! It helped that I had enough fresh produce on hand (if not, there's canned stuff!)

  7. I did the same as you today, Bless, I decided that I could get away with not going grocery shopping. I was tired and didn't feel like driving out. I had a nap instead!
Seeing your fish dinner reminded me of our visits to Jamaica and the delicious fish dinners we had there. I think I must find some new ways to cook fish, but it would be nice to be able to obtain some mackerel perhaps. Sometimes I wish we lived near the sea. When I was growing up in England there was always fresh fish of many kinds in the fish shops.

    1. Bushlady, I am glad you were able to rest and take a nap. I like to cook salmon the same way I cooked the kingfish, yesterday - I saute some sliced onions and tomato in a little oil, then, add the fish and cook that, seasoned with just a little salt, pepper, and lemon juice. The trick is to saute down the onions and tomatoes, until it becomes like a thick sauce, almost a paste. The flavors become very concentrated.
