On Thursday

Pomegranate Flower

On Thursday, both daughter and I were up early because she was working from home and I wanted to make her a cup of coffee before her early morning meeting.  While daughter did her work, I spent my day doing some paperwork and filing of my own, including going through a few file folders and getting rid of old statements/paid bills, etc.  In addition, I put away a load of laundry and sorted through the drawers where I store my scarves and socks, etc.

In the afternoon, I took a nap on the sofa in the living room.

Later, after daughter finished her work for the day, she made a card for her friend's graduation which we will attend on Friday and I cooked dinner.

Brunch was French bread rolls sandwiches with a beef curry filling, followed by fresh mango.  Dinner was baked ham, mashed potatoes, and sauteed garlic green beans, followed by fresh strawberries for dessert.  I had my strawberries with a piece of sponge cake my daughter had brought me.  After dinner, I portioned up the leftover ham and froze most of it.  I kept a small package of sliced ham to have during the week.  Daughter will take one or two small packages of frozen ham back with her and the rest will be incorporated into my meals over the next several months and the ham bone will be made into a soup, later on.  This is the ham I bought on sale just before Easter.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- Daughter was able to work from home
- Internet services and electricity which enables her to work remotely
- A lovely, sunny day with a high of 75F
- A working oven
- The progress I've made with the paperwork and filing.

Thursday's joyful activity was taking an afternoon nap!

Plans for Friday include attending my late friend A's younger daughter's graduation.  I felt so honored when she invited me.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. I like the idea of the bread rolls with curry filling. When we left our hotel at 5 am yesterday we were allowed to put some takeaway breakfast items in a bag that was provided, and as the bacon was already out, I put some into a roll and it was delicious.

    1. My daughter likes "curry sandwiches" as I call them. Your bacon in a roll sounds delicious, a little like a bacon sandwich. :) Such an early morning departure!

    1. Thank you, Linda. The pomegranate tree is full of flowers; I'm just hoping that we'll get some fruit, this year (last year, there were only two pomegranates, even though the tree had lots of flowers).
The ham dinner turned out very well and now there's leftover ham for sandwiches and various other dishes. :)

  3. Wishing you an enjoyable long weekend with your daughter! And of course a lovely time at the graduation ceremony too. Does it include a celebration of some sort as well? I think your graduation ceremonies are quite different from ours in some ways.

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. I'm enjoying having my daughter home for an extended weekend. I'm not quite sure what this graduation ceremony will include, besides speeches and the graduates walking up to the stage to receive their diplomas. Usually, that's the extent of the actual ceremony and families might go out to dinner, afterwards.

  8. What a great color the pomegranate flower has.
You're getting some good mileage from the ham you bought on sale at Easter.
It was nice of you to get up early and make your daughter her coffee before her work day began :)

    1. The pomegranate flowers are pretty, aren't they?
Yes, we enjoyed some of the ham while daughter was here and she took a package of ham back with her and she's been having ham sandwiches for lunch.
I feel guilty sleeping in when my daughter is home and has to wake up early for work. :)
