May Groceries 5/7/25 |
I put in an order for groceries very early this morning (shortly after midnight, when the new prices went into effect) and selected a mid-morning pick up time slot. The main reason for that was the sale on daughter's favorite brand of coffee for $7.99 each with this week's digital coupon. Regular price is $11.99 each. The sales ad stated, "While supplies last" and when I put the order in, I received a notice that supplies were low! You are allowed to use each digital coupon up to 5 times in a single transaction, but, apparently, there was a limit of 4 on the ground coffee. I ordered the maximum number I could, with 4 ground coffee packages and 1 whole coffee beans package (we have a coffee grinder at home).
I also bought a half gallon container of milk, which is not pictured, above.
In addition, I bought some soap, which is not paid for with my grocery budget. I had been waiting for it to go on sale to stock up (I usually buy one 8 pack of soap twice a year; I am now stocked up on toothpaste and soap for the rest of the year).
Here's the receipt:
Order Summary
Item Details
15 Items
The total I paid = $63.97
The total for groceries only (without the soap and the tax on soap) = $56.66
May grocery budget = $150
With my daughter coming home for an extended weekend visit in mid-May and spending $39.95 to stock up on coffee for her, I have increased my monthly grocery budget, this month. That additional $50 is not coming from the car fuel budget, this time around, because I put gas to the car this morning ( $44.93 worth of gas @$4.29/gal. at the cheapest station I could find in my neighborhood as opposed to $4.65/gal. at the station near the grocery store). The additional money for groceries is coming from what might have otherwise gone to savings.
The Armenian grocery store is having another one day only special on pork chops for $1.99/lb., next Tuesday and I am planning to buy some and some fresh produce. Daughter and I both enjoyed the pork chops I bought, earlier.
As always, I am grateful for:
- The availability of groceries
- Weekly loss leader sales and coupons
- Being able to increase my grocery budget
- Being able to stock up
- The convenience of ordering groceries online and picking up in the store parking lot
Have you grocery shopped yet in May?
You got some great deals! Especially the coffee and soap! So glad to hear your daughter will be coming home to you soon. I know it makes you happy to have her there.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mandy. With the prices being what they are, I think it only makes sense to stock up when there are sales. Yes, daughter will visit for 5 days, mid-month. I'm looking forward to that.
DeleteGood deals there! I found a gift voucher which I'd forgotten about, and then we had a voucher through the door for £20 off an £80 spend. Combining with other offers [mot always allowed] I got £100 worth of food for £48. A huge saving, it will be delivered Saturday and go into the freezer ready for the family arriving later in the month. So grateful for that, this month is full of expenses [kitchen, dentist, optician]
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. How wonderful that you found the gift voucher you had forgotten about and were able to combine the different offers to save over 50% on your groceries! Well done! Every little bit helps when there are big expenses, doesn't it?
DeleteYou were smart to get all the coffee you could get. I have done the same.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. I'm glad that you've done the same. :)
DeleteCoffee is expensive, so it's a good item to stock up on. How nice that you daughter can home for a visit so soon.
ReplyDeleteYes, coffee is expensive and daughter is picky about her coffee, although she does try other, less expensive brands. I'm looking forward to her next visit (she's flying down to attend her friend's graduation).
DeleteThat's a good price for the coffee and worth stocking up on. I've noticed an increase in the prices lately, but more shocking is the increase in the price of the large bar of dark chocolate that I regularly buy. (Medicinal requirement of course! 😀). It has jumped by about a dollar.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I'm sorry your medicinal chocolate has increase in price. Perhaps you might be able to claim it as a medical expense for tax purposes? :)
DeleteDefinitely worth stocking up for daughter!
ReplyDeleteYes; I am glad I was able to stock up on the coffee for her. :)
DeleteYou got a great deal on the coffee. I don't blame you for stocking up at that price. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. Yes, I was happy to see that the coffee was on sale. It's my daughter's favorite and she will pay full price to buy it, if she has to.
DeleteGood job getting the coffee at that price and stocking up.
ReplyDeleteAnd now you will have your soap too for the next year.
Well under $1 a bar is a good price.
Increasing your budget makes sense. Doesn't mean you have to spend it and if you don't, you can then divert the remaining to your savings.
Or you may want to carry it over to the following month which I know is your normal practice.
Thank you, Debra. This coffee is something my daughter will pay full price for if needed because she really likes it. So, I was happy to be able to buy it on sale for her.
DeleteYes, stocked up on soap for a good long time. :)
Yes, I decided to go ahead and increase my budget, especially if I want to keep taking advantage of sales to stock up on items I would regularly buy. I know that I am blessed to be able to do so. I will probably just carry over any remaining funds to the next month.
