Summer Bouquet (June 2024) |
The only picture I took today was of an empty shelf in the bookcase, which didn't look as pretty as this bouquet of garden flowers! So, I decided to go with the flowers!
But, just for the record, the bottom shelf of the family room bookcase is now empty:
Empty Shelf |
I don't think it will remain empty for long. I am thinking of storing my canning jars there, in a couple of fabric covered boxes. Or, maybe the board games which are currently being stored on a shelf in the entertainment center. Nature abhors a vacuum, they say; apparently, as much as I say I like empty spaces, I am not happy with vacuums, either! LOL. But, for now, the bottom shelf is empty.
It was another overcast day, here, and temperatures on the cooler side. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my asthma inhaler refill and went to the dollar store afterwards. I was looking for a box of disposable gloves (needed for when I apply Dancer's thyroid medications; I am down to the last two gloves I had bought from the old dollar store) and a butter dish (my old butter dish broke), but they didn't have any disposable gloves (I asked one of the store assistants) and they didn't have any butter dishes, either. I bought a packet of rice to make myself a new rice-filled heat pack and I bought a four-pack of lemon-lime soda cans. The store was not crowded and I felt comfortable walking around (I had my mask on).
In the evening, I called former neighbor T to check on her and left a message, chatted with friend R who is having another package delivered to my house, and had a long conversation with my daughter.
On Thursday, I was grateful for:
- My medication refills being available
- A safe drive to the pharmacy and back
- A safe drive to the pharmacy and back
- Leftovers for meals
- My portable electric space heater (yes, I put it on in the evening as I felt cold!)
- My portable electric space heater (yes, I put it on in the evening as I felt cold!)
- Exchanging emails with friends
Thursday's joyful activity was having a long conversation with my daughter.
How was your Thursday? What are your plans for Friday?
Personally I wouldn't have a problem with an empty self as long as it was the bottom shelf, easier to dust :) I'm decluttering some old medications back to the chemist shop today and feel quite proud I've made a start!
ReplyDeleteAn empty shelf is definitely easier to dust, isn't it? Well done decluttering the old medications and making a start. :)
DeleteLovely to see the summer flowers that you had back in June. I agree that nature abhors a vacuum and I think both your ideas for the empty shelf are good ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I'm waiting for the chrysanthemums to flower again, to make a fall flower arrangement. I think I shall have two empty shelves when I've finished decluttering that bookcase, and then, I'll have room for the boardgames as well as the canning jars.
DeleteYes I do think that putting the newly-created space to practical use is a good idea. Empty bookshelves are a bit sad and fabric-covered boxes will be pretty. Board games in easy reach are also not a bad idea - maybe people will be more inclined to play them if they catch the eye! Hope you are able to find a nice butter dish soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. We are considering getting rid of the entertainment center, which has water damage from when I used to have the pothos plant on the top and overwatered it from time to time. In order to get rid of it, I need empty it and find homes for the things I currently store/display on its shelves (the video tapes, music CDs, the board games, and my scrapbooks, in addition to the stereo). I'm hoping that, eventually, I can declutter enough books to make room in the bookcase for at least the board games and scrapbooks. In the meantime, I'm decluttering the videos and CDs, too. The more I declutter, the less I will have to store!
DeleteI think I will have to go to a department store to buy a butter dish or order it online. :)
I remember those days of gloves, thyroid meds, and cats. And while the summer bouquet is prettier, I appreciate the work that went to making an empty shelf more. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. I keep looking at the empty shelf and smiling. :) My daughter went ahead and ordered the disposable gloves for me and they were delivered, today. :)
DeleteThe flowers look pretty! I'm not so good on empty spaces either!!! I am joyful for the Year 5 girl who told me she thinks I choose really lovely songs for Singing Assembly, the Year 6 children who really listened to my feedback and improved their work today and for the Swiss Chard growing so abundantly at school which I am the only person picking!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kezzie. I'm enjoying the empty spaces, but, I know that they won't remain empty for long! I really like the things you are joyful about!
DeleteSorry you couldn't find the gloves! They had a lot at mine, though they weren't where I thought they would be! Glad that you were able to fill your prescription
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. My daughter went ahead and ordered the gloves for me and a box of them were delivered today. They should last me a long time. :)
DeleteI would be happy with an empty shelf, as it's much easier to keep clean :)
ReplyDeleteIt's frustrating when you can't manage to get what you need in store, and at times like this, I give in and order from Amazon.
Your flowers are beautiful. Xx
That shelf is still empty! Yes, my daughter ordered the gloves for me and they arrived the next day. Thank you; I liked that little flower arrangement I put together with garden flowers in the summer. I need to see what I have in the garden for a fall arrangement.
DeleteGood job cleaning off that shelf. Reading through the comments, I see you also have it in your mind to empty the entertainment center due to damage. I'm sure you will be putting something on that empty shelf. But that's the purpose, right? To use your space for the things you use/want. Not just to store things you no longer use or want to keep.
ReplyDeleteI have bookshelves in the living room, kitchen and mudroom/laundry room that have gone through quite a metamorphosis over my years of decluttering.
Thank you, Debra. Yes, I'm considering getting rid of the entertainment center. My daughter suggested replacing it with something has has more covered storage space, but, I think that I can get rid of enough other items to not need more furniture. I am hearing my mother's voice in my head, saying, "Change is good". :)
