Sunday

It was chilly and cloudy all day, today.  Finally, the rain that had been threatening all day began to fall in the late evening, around 10:00 p.m.  The forecast says it will rain for the next several days!

Neighbor T called in the early afternoon and I chatted with her.  Then, I walked outside in the driveway for a little bit, to get some fresh air and exercise.

I spent the day waiting for S to come and pick up the masks, but, she didn't.  I guess she was working and didn't have the time.  In the meantime, I sewed a few more masks with fabric ties since I was out of thin elastic.  I was told, by a distant relative, not to cut wider elastic as that just unravels.  The fabric ties were quite easy and the wearer can adjust as needed:

Mask with Ties
I had a banana for breakfast, today.  I wasn't very hungry for lunch, so I had an orange.  Later, around 4:00 p.m., I ate some tuna salad with crackers and had a cup of tea.  For dinner, I warmed up some of the frozen roast beef and made it over with sauteed onions, carrots, green beans, and sliced potato, as I had done earlier:

Dinner

There are leftovers for tomorrow's dinner, as well.

Friend R called in the evening for a chat and later, I video chatted with my daughter.  She baked some curry puffs for her dinner and some chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  Since she is getting low on her stock of white sugar, she said she used a recipe that called for condensed milk and brown sugar!  So far, I haven't felt the urge to bake anything like cakes and cookies, but, that might change.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The rain holding off till evening
- Being able to sew the masks
- Phone calls and video chats
- Electricity
- Being able to walk about my garden

Light Purple Osteospermum
Today's joyful activity was walking about my garden.

Monday's To Do List:
- Change bed sheets
- Load of laundry (bed sheets/towels)
- Dust living room & dining area
- Clean the fridge
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up
- Sew a few more masks
- Start cleaning and tidying the family room

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. I haven't felt the urge to bake anything either but the choir leader has just challenged us to a cupcake bake-off. At the moment I doubt I will join in as the competition is on how creatively you decorate them, not the taste (for obvious reasons!) and I don't want to waste ingredients. I may change my mind but think it's unlikely. I do fancy making some cheese scones though!

Hope you have a good day Bless x

    1. Well, if you do bake cupcakes, maybe you can freeze the majority of them for later and decorate just one or two for the challenge. The cheese scones sound good to me! They will go well with the soup you are planning to make or just by themselves.

Thank you, Eileen. It is a rather wet day, here, today, but, it just means I don't have to water the garden, this week! Hope you, too, are having a good day.

  2. I wish I could resist the urge to bake cakes and cookies. :)
You're doing a great job with the masks, Bless. X

    1. I think Lily might be disappointed if you didn't make a few treats. :)

Thank you, Jules. I'm glad I am able to make the masks.

  3. You are doing a great job with the face masks. A lady at our church has being making & giving away to the congregation & local front line workers. I agree every little bit of effort we can do, helps for the greater good. Your plants are gorgeous.

  4. I left the house and went shopping for the first time in three weeks. It was ridiculously exciting to stroll down the deserted streets. The shop assistants were so kind and helpful, and explained the new rules about distancing. I bought a few basics and a few treats (it's my birthday on Friday so I want to do a special meal)

    1. It's good to have a garden in which to stroll around, isn't it? It's a wet day, today, but, I am planning to put on my raincoat and walk in the garden for just a bit - I can see from my sliding glass door that another orange has fallen from the tree and the trash cans need to be taken out, as well.

  7. I will be watching to see if you can get back on schedule. I'm still not ready for a routine, so I will continue to just plod along. My daughter is starting a new schedule today, along with her kids. It is Day One of on-line learning, and my daughter sounds frazzled already. I reminded her that everyone is on a learning curve right now...the kids, the teachers and the parents. So just take it slowly.

Love your photos today. The masks you have made are an excellent way of using your stash and contributing to the fight (besides doing your part by isolating) Dinner looks scrumptious. You are taking care of yourself by cooking nutritious meals. Your garden is a delightful refuge from the everyday news. Keep those photos coming. I am enjoying walking through your garden with you, virtually.

    1. Yes, we are all on a learning curve, getting used to yet another "new normal"! Hope the on-line classes go well and the kids soon get the hang of it.

I, too, am watching myself to see if I can get back on a routine! LOL! I think "baby steps" and a good brunch would help me! I don't know about nutritious meals, but, I think I will treat myself to some fluffy, American style pancakes for brunch, today. But, they will be eaten with leftover fish curry, dhal, and onion sambol, instead of syrup!

Thank you, Susan. Yes, the masks are a good use of the stash and I feel that I am being productive in a good way. I shall continue to post more garden photos, if you like. :)

  8. I love your mask, Bless! I just ordered a couple on Etsy. Your design without the elastic looks perfect. Your mums look so healthy and colorful. Glad to hear that you are cooking delicious meals for yourself. Like your daughter, I have been baking cookies. I made a batch of butterscotch oatmeal.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. I wish I could send you a couple of the ones I made, but, I am not going to the post office, these days. I'm glad you were able to order some on Etsy. Yum, butterscotch oatmeal cookies sound delicious!

  9. Well, I looked up "faluda" which you mentioned in your reply to my comment yesterday and it certainly sounds delicious and exotic! I can never understand why some people are scared to try new foods from other cultures, I love to travel and sample different dishes, as long as the contents don't try to walk off the plate!
I cleaned two bird feeders the other day and reassembled them and filled them this morning. I seem to have done a lot of little jobs today, including sorting bottles for a 3rd bottling of maple syrup. I do have to rewash them and arrange them in a pan for sterilizing in the oven just before we fill them. The sap seemed to dry up for a couple of days and then didn't it get below freezing overnight and today it is running well. I was kind of hoping that we had finished but we shall have a 4th bottling sometime soon. Oh well, it's good stuff!

    1. I hope that, one day, when all this virus pandemic is over, you might find a place where faluda is sold so you can try it, Bushlady. :)

Sounds like you've been busy and the bottling is going strong! It's a lot of work, I am sure, but, I'm sure it is delicious!

  10. You eat so little. 😊

Today I made a loaf of bread. It was so delicious I ate almost half of the loaf. Sigh....

  11. You are doing really well with your mask making.

How are your daughter's supplies holding out other then the sugar? Has she gone to the store at all?

    Take care

    1. Thank you, Debra. I've sewn 13 so far! Kept one (the first one, which was my trial one) for myself and gave the other 12 to S, who gave 2 to R. Then, I read about a woman who made 100 in a single 12 hour sewing marathon! I can't imagine!

My daughter said she's doing OK, except her supply of fresh vegetables are coming to an end, but, she has frozen stuff. She hasn't gone to the store, at all, and won't be going any time soon. However, she went ahead and put in a delivery request for sugar, a reusable coffee filter, some canned fruits and canned beans. She says she's missing fresh bananas (she loves bananas), but, she wants to hold off on a delivery of fresh produce for another couple of weeks. Thank you for asking, Debra. :)
