Tuesday

Today was overcast and cooler; the rest of the week will be cooler, too, according to the forecast.

I received a call from my friend's niece this morning and later, I spoke with my friend's daughter.  Apparently my friend suffered another stroke last night and she is now unable to talk or move.  She is still in the Intensive Care Unit, but she is not expected to recover and has already received her last rites.

I really didn't feel like doing much, today.  I did office work, but felt unmotivated to do much housework.  One of my aunts and a cousin called to ask about my friend and later, I called two other friends to give them the news.  Later in the evening, another aunt and cousin called, too.

Today, I found out that my dishwasher is no longer working!  I usually wash my dishes by hand because I rarely have enough dishes to make a full load.  But once a week or so, I collect all the dishes for a couple of days and do a load in the dishwasher, because I've been told I should run it at least once a week.  So, today, I loaded all the dishes and put the detergent in, etc., but I couldn't get it to start!  The dial seems to be stuck.  Sigh.  I washed the dishes by hand, instead. I don't know if I should buy a new dishwasher or go back to not having one.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to talk with my friend's daughter.
- My neighbor bringing in my trash cans for me.
- Phone calls with family and friends.
- A working computer.
- Video chatting with my daughter.

  1. So very sorry to hear the news of your friend's declining condition. It's wonderful though that she has so many caring friends and family members keeping her in thought and prayer. Perhaps you can Google your dishwasher model to see if there are any easy fixes? How is your refrigerator? I recall you mentioning it wasn't cooling well and you may need to replace it Sometimes it seems appliances all go out at once.

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. Yes, we are all praying for her and her family. As for the dishwasher, I will ask my neighbor to take a look at it and see if it is something he can fix and take it from there. Most of my appliances were bought when I first moved into the house 25 years ago or when I built the addition, 20 years ago! They are all on their last legs, so to speak and all probably need replacing!

Sorry your dishwasher went out too. I love having a dishwasher, and would buy one of mine went out.ha I dont use it every day [like you, not enough dishes] but, I love having it when the kids come to visit, and during holidays especially.
Hope you have a good day.

    1. Thank you, Judy. Appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

My mother bought me the dishwasher to help me when I entertained, but back then, I entertained more frequently than I do now. I suppose I will get a new one, eventually.

  3. So sorry to hear about your friend. No wonder you didn't feel like doing much, you have had more than one piece of distressing news. (((Hugs))) and prayers for all.

I hope you can find a way to get your dishwasher working again. Might be worth googling "Dishwasher won't start" and see if you can find out about anything that might still be fixable, even if you have to call in a technician. I'm sure you really find it useful when you host the almsgiving and other social occasions.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I will ask my neighbor across the street to take a look at the dishwasher to see if he can fix it. If not, I suppose I'll get a new one, eventually.

  5. The dishwasher is tricky. We got rid of ours a while back and I really, really miss it, but it is supposed to save water. I'm ashamed to admit it, but the dishwasher does a better job than me!

    1. I really don't miss the dishwasher as I used it so rarely. But I suppose I'll replace it, eventually.
