White Sapote |
I cut it into quarters and this is what it looked like:
Very Ripe White Sapote Pieces |
The skin is supposed to be inedible, so I just scooped out the flesh with a spoon and ate it. It was very soft and custard like, somewhat sweet, but a little bland. There were three big seeds and two small seeds in the middle; I saved the seeds to see if they will germinate if I planted them. It might make an interesting plant.
I have eaten yellow sapotes, as a child - there was a yellow sapote tree in my neighbor's garden - but the texture and taste of yellow sapotes tend to be different; I remember them being more chalky, less sweet. I have also eaten sapodilla, which is another type of sapote, but they, too, tasted different to the white sapote.
I have not seen white sapote on sale (the skin is very thin, especially when ripe, and bruises easily, so not a good fruit for being transported, etc.) But it is a fruit I wouldn't mind eating again.
Today, in addition to trying a new fruit, I went to work, paid 3 bills (gas, internet, utilities), went to the post office to mail the bill payments (yes, I'm still old fashioned about writing checks and mailing in payments; I'm doing my bit to support the postal service!), picked up medication refills from the pharmacy, brought the trash cans in, went through the grocery ads, watered the orange and peach trees, watered the indoor plants, and finished writing out the card for an aunt's birthday (addressed and stamped and ready to be mailed, tomorrow). I did everything on my to do list!
Have spent the evening trying to video chat with daughter - she's having trouble with her internet connection; her account keeps getting disconnected (internet connection comes with her apartment) and she's been calling the service provider. They get her connected, it works for not even 5 minutes and goes off, again! Very frustrating for her. It's a good thing she's on summer break, right now, and not having any homework for her classes; all her homework requires access to the internet as assignments are done on-line and submitted on-line, etc.
Today, I am grateful for:
- A new fruit to try
- Water for my plants
- Dinner from the temple
- Internet connections
- Phones when the internet doesn't work properly!
I'll go ahead and post my to do list for Wednesday:
- Go to the office
- Post office to mail card to aunt
- Bank
- Water camellia bush and potted plants
- Paperwork/Filing
- Laundry
- Dust bedroom
How was your day, today? Have you ever tried sapote?
Never heard of it. My Tuesday was rough. Little Wolf was extremely fussy, I don't know if it's due to teething or what. Tough day and night. Today was horrible again, hopefully he'll sleep thru the night.
ReplyDeleteJess, so sorry to hear that you've had a rough couple of days. Teething can be hard on little ones. Hope you'll both have a restful night of sleep tonight.
DeleteBless please pass along my gratitude for prayers and best wishes from our Organized Friends folks. It means a lot. I've been riding the hospital merry-go-round, prepped for surgery, wheeled into OR and then abruptly cancelled. Case presented to the Cardiac Board who decided on a different surgical procedure...I'm scheduled for tomorrow morning, it's a very emotional roller coaster. What do you do is wonderful, I'm a bit spacy from all the drugs they've poured down my throat, injected or delivered via 'patches.' I'm hooked to several machines, I feel like a Disneyland animatronic. I explained to the nurse that while I'm in her 'place,' I play following her rules. DH is a wreak!
ReplyDeleteI believe I've had those apples but named differently, possibly custard apple. While I know you like your cheque/PO procedure but you may be unaware that the PO is now responsible for a huge percentage of the delivery of all the electronic buying and selling merchandise from individuals to giant sellers like Amazon. Their business shifted from letter carriers to package delivery as large as furniture. In our complex I see the postal trucks daily, even Sundays!
I wonder if I should point out how much more costly [$, time and effort.] Some time ago when I saw the bank adding fees for services that had been 'free,' I made several changes that allows me to have no cost banking for the services I need and use. Saves about $30. per month, $ 360. per year but best of all I get 24/7 service on my terms, convenient to me.
Hon, I will certainly pass along your message. It must be so awful to get ready for surgery only to have it cancelled or postponed. Don't worry about anything; just concentrate on preparing yourself mentally for the procedure and recovery afterwards. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Hope the surgical procedure will go smoothly and recovery will be complication-free.
DeleteWe used to call annona fruit, "custard apples", but, I read that white sapote is also called custard apples! The texture was definitely custard-like.
If you can, please let me know how you fared from the surgery. I will keep both you and your husband in my thoughts. (((HUGS)))
