Tuesday

Is It a Plane?

(Notice the contrail in the background)

No!  It's a Hummingbird!

A minute later, it returned to its perch in the Jacaranda tree:

In the Jacaranda Tree

It's the best my cell phone camera could do, magnified 5X.

Do you see it?

I've no idea what kind of hummingbird, but, I find them hard to photograph with my cell phone camera.

We had a sunny day on Tuesday, with an afternoon high of 70F.  I spent a relaxed morning while daughter worked, brought in the trash cans after they had been emptied, and brought in the mail.

In the early afternoon, I took Dancer to the vet clinic for his injection.  This time, I managed to get most of the sedative in him and timed it well, so that, when we left the house 45 minutes later, he only complained a little bit and then, remained quiet the rest of the way!  No panicked meows, no hyperventilating, no drooling, no incidents as we pulled into the parking lot!  He was as good as gold on the way home, too!  He was rewarded with canned tuna after we got home and he's been sleeping on and off all evening.

After we came home, I walked for 15 minutes or so, which was when I took the hummingbird pictures.

Daughter and I had croissant sandwiches for brunch, with orange juice.  Dinner was rice, leftover chicken curry, sauteed salmon, freshly cooked green beans (I cooked them in two different ways for variety), and the last of the cucumber salad.  There was tomato chutney, too.  Grapes for dessert.

On Tuesday, I was grateful for:
- Dancer being so good on the way to the vet clinic and back
- A safe drive to the vet clinic and back
- The availability of medication for Dancer
- A sunny and mild day
- Being able to walk

Tuesday's joyful activity was watching the hummingbird and trying to take photographs of it.

Plans for Wednesday include gardening with M and picking up my medication refills from the pharmacy.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. I know you have really enjoyed having your daughter home. I am very glad Thanksgiving is virtually here, because I have really been missing my son's families.
I love the hummingbird pictures and am impressed you got those shots with your phone.

    1. Thank you, Anne. Hummingbirds are usually too fast for me to photograph with my cell phone, but, this one obliged by sitting still for a minute!
It's been lovely having daughter home! I know you are looking forward to having your sons and families home for Thanksgiving. :)

  2. Those are pretty good hummingbird pictures, especially since it was so far away. We only have ruby-throated ones around here, so it's pretty easy to know what kind we have. :)

    1. Thank you, June. I believe there are 9 species in California, and I haven't learned to identify them.

  3. I love hummingbirds! I occasionally see them in my neighbor's backyard near the fence and just love to watch them. They are so tiny! I'm glad Dancer did ok at the vet. Hope you enjoy your day of gardening! Sounds like you have great weather for it!

    1. Thank you, Mandy; I do get a lot of hummingbirds in my garden. Dancer did well yesterday, but, he disgraced himself, today. It's another sunny and mild day, here, and we've started pruning the fruit trees.

  4. I love the idea of a hummingbird having contrails! Clever photo. They are so cute when they perch on a tiny branch, aren't they?

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Actually, I didn't even notice the contrail until after I had taken the picture! But, I was happy when it perched on the twig and stayed there until I had taken the picture. :)

  6. The hummingbird photographs are great. Your phone must have a good camera.
I'm glad everything went well at the vets. My two were due their annual vaccinations this week, but I only managed to get one of them to the clinic. The other managed to escape from the house and went out to play instead. You can probably guess which one :)

    1. Thank you, Jules. You always take some of the best photos I've seen, so it means a lot when you say the hummingbird photos are great. :)
Ha, so, is the great escape artist Boo Houdini? :D

  7. You captured some nice images of the hummingbird with your phone camera.
I'm so glad Dancer didn't have a traumatic time of it this time on his vet's visit.
Good job getting the pill into him!

    1. Thank you, Debra.
Yes, Dancer had a good visit to the vet. The sedative is a liquid I have to squirt into his mouth with a syringe. He clenches his teeth and squirms and claws to get out of the towel in which I wrap him to try and keep his legs held in place!
