End of the Week

Glowing in the Sun

One of the jade plants in the front garden.  The leaves are tinged with red due to the nights being cool (in the low 40s) and with the afternoon sun shining on them, they glowed.

On Thursday, I went to my doctor's appointment.  The drive there and back went well.  When I got to the parking lot, however, half of it was cordoned off as they were resurfacing and restriping it.  The open half was almost full.  But, Eddy the parking attendant offered to park my car for me, managing to reverse it into a rather narrow spot.

The visit with the doctor went fairly well, too.  My vitals were good and the doctor remarked on my weight loss.  Most of the lab work results were good, too, but, there were some results that need to be followed up with further tests.  So, I will be doing that in the upcoming weeks.  I hope there is a simple explanation as to why I got the results I did, but, getting a referral for scans and ultrasounds has me feeling a little concerned.

I put gas to the car on my way back from the doctor's office, partly because I was below the half a tank level and I like to fill up when that happens and partly because gas at this particular station was $0.30 cheaper per gallon than at the cheapest gas station closest to my house.  It's a bit out of the way for me to fill up there on a regular basis, but, since I was passing it on my way home, it made sense to fill up there.  According to my calculations, I saved just over $3.00 by doing so.

Chicken Little is Molting

On Friday, daughter had a day off from work and we spent a rather relaxed day at home (she is still on crutches and has spoken with her podiatrist about it).  I made us waffles with blueberry compote for a very late brunch and when M arrived to tend to the garden, he got to enjoy a waffle, too.  Dinner was leftover salmon, with sauteed green beans, and mashed potatoes.

Tail-less Chicken Little

Today, Saturday, it was cloudy and cool.  There was a chance of light rain in the forecast, but, it didn't rain.  I had gone to sleep at 4:30 a.m. but woke up at 8:00 a.m., just in case neighbor E (who installed the garage door opener) had mentioned he has a replacement for my water-damaged side door and will bring it by when he could.  He didn't say he would bring it today, but, I wanted to be up and ready at a time when normal people are expected to be up, just in case!  As it happened, he didn't bring it over, today, so I could have slept in, if I had wanted to!  Oh, well.  I read some blogs, dusted the living room and dining area, and watched some videos online.

In the afternoon, I went to the pharmacy to pick up a medication refill that was ready and later, I took a nap.

I had toast with butter and some of my homemade "no waste" peach jam for brunch and daughter had the leftover waffles.  Dinner will be leftover salmon, sauteed green beans, and mashed potatoes.  I have been following the meal plan with only a few minor adjustments, this week, which is good.

I had invited my late friend A's family to join us for Thanksgiving dinner and today, I received confirmation that they will be able to do so.  I need to finalize my menu and grocery shopping order.

Plans for Sunday include picking up the groceries and tidying the family room.

This week, I am grateful for:
- Access to medical services
- Medical insurance
- The availability of medications
- Kind and helpful neighbors
- Having my daughter home

Joyful activities have included spending time in the garden, spending time with my daughter, planning Thanksgiving dinner with friends, and reading blogs.

How was your week?  What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

  1. I hope your doctor is just being very cautious in ordering the additional tests. I'm glad your daughter is there. It's nice you can spend Thanksgiving together, and friends can join you. Hopefully your daughter can see a podiatrist and start walking again soon.
The jade plant is pretty, and Chicken Little looks rather disheveled!

    1. Thank you, Celie. My daughter has an appointment with a podiatrist down here, in early January, which was the earliest they had available. Chicken Little looked even worse, a week or two ago, but, I couldn't take a picture of her at the time.

    2. I hope that by the time January comes, the appointment will be unnecessary. I don't think waiting lists are that long, even here!

Meanwhile, I hope your next lot of tests come back clear with no cause to worry. It's better to err on the side of caution - it may be hard, but don't fret about maybes, OK? :o) I hope at least that your waiting list for the scans will not be anything like as long.

Nice to see Chicken Little again.

    3. Thank you, Lady Ella. Yes, the medical clinics here, in the southern part of the state, have long waiting lists. Plus, daughter had to switch her clinic from the one in Northern California to one here, in Southern California.
Thank you, again, for the encouragement. :)

  2. I hope your test results show that there is nothing to be concerned about. It is reassuring, however, that your doctor is being thorough.
There is plenty of water here, this weekend, as we experience Storm Bert. Fortunately, we've managed to avoid the worst of it, so far. Xx

  3. Like Celine, I hope your doctor is being wise and cautious. I'm just watching a programme on TV about Sri Lanka, and I thought of you. Such a lovely place

  4. The picture of the jade plant is stunning! I wish you luck not worrying about the additional tests you have to do. Worrying doesn't help anything and it's not time to worry until you have more data. However, I would be worrying no matter how hard I tried not to. Now, at least you have Thanksgiving prep to distract you. If you daughter has an appointment in January, is she going to be staying until then?

I'm trying not to worry too much. :) At least until the test results come back.
Yes, my daughter will be staying with me at least until the first week in January. :)

    1. Thank you, Chris. Yes, I do have good medical care and I'm very grateful for that.
I'm looking forward to having friends over to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. I don't entertain as much as I used to, so, it feels extra special when I do. :)

  6. Hopefully your further tests will not show anything of concern.
Try and stay calm (easy to say) but it does help to try and not worry.
30 cents a gallon is a terrific savings. You were smart to get your gas there.
    Yeah! Company for Thanksgiving.
    Let the preparations begin.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, I'm trying not to worry. I've given it up to a higher power and will cross bridges when we come to them. :)
I was happy to save those extra cents on a gallon of gas. :)
Company for Thanksgiving is something to look forward to, isn't it? I picked up my groceries, today, and vacuumed the living room and dining area. :)

  7. I love the "fall colours" of the jade plant in the sun! How kind of the parking attendant to park your car for you. I hate reversing into narrow spaces! I hope your future tests will find that all is actually well. Chicken Little does look rather bedraggled. Will the tail feathers grow back, do you think?

    1. Thank you, Bushlady.
There were some yellow leaves on the peach and nectarine trees, too, so I got a small taste of fall, this year. :)
Wasn't it very kind of the parking attendant to help me out?
I hope Chicken Little will get her tail feathers back. :)
