Wednesday

Back Yard in the Morning Sun

The back yard looked so pretty in the morning sun that I had to take a picture, even though the colors didn't come out too well.  The Asian pear tree is in the foreground, with the plum tree in the center of the picture, the nectarine tree to the left and the avocado tree to the right (you can see the white pole that is helping to support it)

Lois Lane Mango, however, is not doing well, at all!  In fact, she is more or less dead!

However, the tomatoes are producing well!  The individual fruits are rather small, though, with some of them being the size of a large cherry tomato!  This is today's picking:

Early Girl Tomatoes

I woke up relatively early for me - 8:00 a.m.   I did a load of laundry (two handmade blankets, one knitted, one crocheted) and hung the items up to dry.  Once they are dried, I will put them away until they are needed again in the winter.  Then, I made a birthday card for a friend of mine.  Afterwards, I checked on the garden and picked some tomatoes.

M arrived later in the morning and did some tidying up and watered both front and back.  While we were out in the front garden, at least two people stopped by to look at neighbor T's house.  It is now listed online and apparently, there will be an open house this weekend.  One gentleman asked me about the neighborhood, if it was good, etc., and I said it was a good neighborhood.  I didn't mention the loud parties my other neighbors sometimes have!

I spent the afternoon and evening reading.  Later, I called friend R to check on her and video chatted with my daughter.

Brunch was a slice of bread with peanut butter; later, I ate the last blueberry waffle.  Dinner was rice and beef curry with peach chutney and vegetables.

On Wednesday, I was grateful for:
- M's help with the garden
- Working appliances and electricity to run them
- The folding/adjustable metal clothes drying rack
- Tomatoes from the garden
- Phone calls, texts, emails, etc., from family and friends.

Today's joyful activity was gardening with M and picking tomatoes.

Plans for tomorrow include picking up my medications from the pharmacy and maybe making tomato chutney (unless it gets too hot - the high is supposed to be 90F/32C).

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. That's interesting about prospective buyers asking about your neighbourhood. Here in the UK sellers have to disclose such information including boundary disputes or complaints about noise issues and so on. Did the noise of the loud parties bother your neighbour T at all? Your backyard does look pretty in the sun and that's a nice crop of tomatoes even if they are on the small side, I'm sure they will be very tasty.
The job on our car was done yesterday so today we plan to go for a drive and stop off for a meal in a dog-friendly eatery.

    1. I suppose the prospective buyer thought that asking someone who lived in the neighborhood was the best thing to do, but, honestly, I didn't want to say anything negative! The real estate agent/sellers have to disclose certain structural problems to the prospective buyers, but, I don't know if they are obliged to mention noisy neighbors. Yes, the noisy parties bothered T, but, she usually kept her windows closed most of the time. Thank you, the sun is scorching the garden by midday, but, the morning sunshine looked different. I'm pleased with the tomato crop, this year. I barely got half a dozen tomatoes, last year!
Oh, I'm sure you are looking forward to going for a drive and a meal out; no doubt Tilly will enjoy it, too. :) I assume she likes car rides? Unlike a certain cat who screams his head off in the car? :D

  2. We're almost ready to start picking tomatoes, and I'm so looking forward to it. I hope whoever buys T's house knows that they have to participate in neighborhood food exchanges. :)

    1. I hope you have an abundant crop of tomatoes, June. :) Something has been nibbling on the ripe tomatoes at the bottom of the vine - I suspect possums!
Ha, ha, we will have to gently initiate them into the food exchange! :D

  3. Your poor mango. It doesn't look great. No such trouble with the tomatoes, however.
I had hoped to be getting my flooring fitted today, but frustratingly I need to have some extra work carried out first. It will be a huge relief when it does get finally completed. X

    1. I think the mango plant has died! I'll just keep it for another week or so and then, compost it. The tomatoes, on the other hand, are doing well!
Sorry to hear that your flooring installation has been delayed, but, hopefully, it will not be delayed for too long and once everything is done, it's going to be beautiful!

  4. I would never say anything about occasionally noisy neighbors either. We are very fortunate to live in a neighborhood that is very quiet for the most part, but every neighborhood has its issues once in a while.
I hope it is not too hot for your chutney making.

    1. Yes, I figured it was not my business to say anything. The neighborhood is, for the most part, quiet and safe, and the majority of the neighbors are polite.
I think chutney making might have to keep for tomorrow. I need to make it a point to get up early so I can start the process before the house heats up!

  5. Hi Bless! I have a favor…could you and your readers send up some prayers for my 26 y.o. nephew? He has severe facial burns received from a work place accident and is in the trauma unit at UNM, Albuquerque. Thank you so much. Judy

    1. Oh, Judy, I am so sorry to hear about your nephew! Yes, of course, prayers are being offered for his full recovery. I will also do a new post for him.

  6. The garden really does look lovely in the sunshine. RIP Lois - she was doing so well! :o( Better luck with your next generation of mango trees!

Interesting about the prospective buyer asking you about the area, and your reaction. I have often heard the same advice - and have had people ring my doorbell to chat when they have been looking at a house nearby. I have done it myself, too, as it can throw up some useful things informally, and if nothing else, you get to meet prospective neighbours. It never really occured to me that people might be hesitant to disclose certain stuff, and I can certainly see why your loyalty to T made you respond as you did. It's not as if you were dishonest though! One of the reasons I put up with my occasionally inconsiderate neighbours as I do, is that if it were to escalate into a dispute, I would have to declare it on the sales forms if ever I moved away ... and obviously I wouldn't want to have to do that! It can be a bit of a catch-22...

    1. Yes, poor Lois. Maybe she was lonely after both Clark and Conner died! Maybe I should buy a mango tree from a nursery and try again!
Another person asked me about the neighborhood on Friday, after the open house, and, again, I said it was a safe neighborhood and fairly quiet. And, it is, safe and fairly quiet for the most part. It's only when the neighbors party that it gets loud! :D

  7. That's a very pretty photo of your garden in the morning light.
My neighbor a couple doors down have people over most Sundays in the summer. They often play music outside - such was the case this Sunday when I got home from dropping off my friend's dog.
I thought of you when I got out of the car and heard the music knowing what I was hearing was no big deal and certainly tolerable (and a bit pleasant on a late Sunday afternoon) versus what you have to put up with.
Thank goodness your neighbor's parties aren't a week occurrence.

    1. Thank you, Debra. There was a golden tint to the sunshine that my camera didn't quite capture.
As long as your neighbors' music is not too loud for you, then, it's fine, I suppose. I think I'd be more tolerant of my neighbors' music if it wasn't quite as loud and it was something I enjoy listening to!
