Sunday

Morning Glory Flower

M gave me a morning glory seedling, earlier this year, and it is flowering!  It's dark purple with red stripes and a white center with a little pink at the base of the petals before it becomes purple.   The way my cell phone camera took the pictures, it looks like the flower is lit from within, doesn't it?

Morning Glory Flower

It was a little cool when I woke up this morning, but, it warmed up to 80F in the afternoon.  I checked on the garden and picked four more tomatoes.  I was happy to see that the raccoons who visited me last night didn't eat the tomatoes!  One tomato that is growing close to the ground has been partly eaten, but, I noticed that last week, too, and I suspect Chicken Little or a mockingbird, or, even one of the garden lizards.  I watered some of the plants in the front garden with water I had saved while waiting for the water to turn warm when showering, etc.  And I planted two stems of the "scaredy cat" plant in the front garden, under the eucalyptus tree.  I'm hoping they will take root and grow there.  I might take a few more cuttings and plant them, too.

I also finished tidying up the family room today.  It's not decluttered by any means, but, the room has been tidied.  As part of the tidying, I put away the bag of yarn I still had out after knitting the socks and the knitting needles.  But, before I did that, I took a picture of my yarn stash:

Yarn Stash July 2023

Christmassy yarn in one bag (right, rear), leftover wool yarn (right, middle), a bag of odds and ends of acrylic yarn (right, front), a bag with larger amounts of acrylic yarn (left rear) and a bag of miscellaneous novelty yarns (left, front) that I am considering donating.  But, I haven't decided, yet, so I put everything back in the bin where I keep all the knitting supplies.  I think, as far as yarn stashes go, mine is not too bad!

Brunch was leftover coconut roti with the last of the seeni sambol.  Dinner was baked chicken from the freezer, with onions, tomatoes, potatoes, and green peas.  There are leftovers for another couple of meals.

On Sunday, I was grateful for:

- Morning Glory flowers
- More tomatoes from the garden
- A sunny day and a warm afternoon
- My yarn stash
- Phone calls and emails with friends

My joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for Monday include meal planning, a load of laundry, watering the back garden, and some housework.

How was your weekend?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. What a beautiful flower and yes indeed it does look like it's lit from within. Your yarn stash is very reasonable. I donated a much larger stash to the charity store as I am no longer able to knit having such poor eyesight now.
Our weekend was spoiled by bad weather, thunder and rain and I did get caught in a downpour again. Housework for me today and tomorrow and it's raining again!

    1. The flowers only last for one day, but, they are very pretty while they last!
I worked hard to get that yarn stash down to a reasonable amount! I'm sorry your eyesight is such that you are not able to knit, but, it was very kind of you to donate your stash so someone else can make use of it.
Sorry to hear that the weekend was spoiled by bad weather and it is raining again! Hope the weather improves later in the week. Good idea to get the housework done when the weather is not so good; then, when the weather improves, you'll be able to go out and enjoy it. :)

  3. My yarn stash is bigger than yours. I haven't knit anything in years, but I keep thinking I will get back to it. You know how that goes. :)

    1. LOL, maybe you need to start knitting, again! Knitted scarves and hats for Christmas gifts, this year! They are easy to make. :)

  4. That morning glory seems to be glowing! You have a variety of critters potentially willing to share your tomatoes, so I hope that the rest survive without being sampled. I don't think you need the equivalent of a royal taster!
You don't have much yarn left, so you will soon have an excuse to buy more! I made some banana muffins today and they look good, but I wish I had remembered to put some brown sugar on top like yours!

Yes, the garden is full of critters - birds, lizards, squirrels, possums, raccoons, and who knows what else? I'm happy to share some of the bounty, but, not all of it! LOL.
My new motto is no new yarn unless I have a specific project planned. The last time I bought yarn was April 2022, when I bought pink, blue, and white yarn for baby blankets, some blue wool for a sweater, and two skeins of the variegated purple yarn to make socks. I made the baby blankets and used up that yarn (a little of the blue left), knitted the sweater, and made socks with the leftover wool from the sweater! I am now challenging myself to knit something with all the leftovers - maybe a blanket for Dancer?
Well, you'll just have to bake another batch of muffins and put the brown sugar on top! :D Enjoy your muffins!

    1. Thank you, Celie. They are very pretty, aren't they? I'm hoping that this vine will go up the trellis and cover it; we shall see. :)
Are you back from visiting your sister?

  6. That is an admirably restrained yarn stash. You have done a good job controlling your yarn purchases. I used to have so much yarn but with donating and selling - and of course using! I have it under control.
I have one tub (not the super large tub but the medium large one)
I buy all of my yarn now at thrift stores and have not bought new yarn for years. I just bought a bag with 3 white skeins for 75 cents this past Thursday. I always need white so I was happy to find that.
As you know, I use my yarn to make baby blankets which I really enjoy making.
I used to buy so much yarn. I'm glad I've moved on from that phase of my life as I was never really comfortable with owning all of it.
The good thing with crocheted baby blankets is they use up a lot of yarn. I have a bag ready for donation now with 6 colorful and happy blankets :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. It's been a year since I last bought any yarn! I have all my yarn and knitting needles, etc. in a big plastic bin, but, it is not super full now.
That's wonderful that you are able to buy yarn at thrift stores! I haven't been to a thrift store in years, since well before the pandemic, but, I don't think I ever saw any yarn in the ones I went to. I found some needlework kits, one time, though, and bought some!
I think you are more than entitled to have a yarn stash because you make and donate so many lovely blankets. :)

  7. Well, thank goodness those trash pandas left your tomatoes alone.
Those flowers are beautiful. I've never heard of them before. Xx

    1. Oh, I like that term - trash pandas! :D Ha, ha, they didn't want fresh tomatoes when they had cat kibble! :D The morning glory flowers are lovely, aren't they?
