Rain on Wednesday

A Peek Into the Garden Shed

It's been just over a year since I cleaned out the garden shed and I took this photo, yesterday, to show that it is still, relatively, tidy.  Garden-related stuff from the garage were relocated to the shed and things have been shifted around a bit, but, it is, for the most part, still organized and functional.  The floor gets wet when it rains and it is a bit muddy, but, I will go in there and clean it once it stops raining, in the summer.

It rained, late last night and early this morning (and it is raining, again, tonight, with more rain in the forecast for tomorrow evening, too!)  M texted me in the morning to say that it was too wet to tend to the garden and he could stop by tomorrow (Thursday) morning, instead.  I said that would be fine with me.

It didn't rain during the day, but, it was cloudy with some sunshine.  It was a bit chilly, too (for me, anyway) and I stayed inside for most of the day, going outside only to check the mail and pick a few snow pea pods from the plants we planted near the trellis in the front.

I had a scrambled egg and toast for brunch, today.  For dinner, I had a bowl of the canned stew, with some frozen green peas added to it before I warmed it up:

Canned Beef Stew

I know I said I was going to make beef pot pies, but, I got hungry rather early, this evening, and didn't want to take the time to make pastry for the pie crusts.  But, there's more beef stew leftover and I will make the beef pot pie tomorrow.  I might add some green beans to it, too, before I make the pie, because the canned stew only has carrots and potatoes for vegetables.

Today, I am grateful for:

- More rain for the garden
- More snow peas from the garden
- Working appliances
- Phone calls and emails with family and friends
- Clean water to drink

Today's joyful activity was playing online word games with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include M's visit (weather permitting), some baking, and more quilt repairs!

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. It's raining hard again here and it does get me down waiting for it to stop before I can take Tilly out for her walk. it's a shame your garden shed allows the rain in but it does look neat and tidy. Your beef stew looks tasty even without the pie crust. The tins of stewed steak I have are meat only in a gravy and I will add vegetables before I make the pie crust.

    1. Sorry to hear that it is raining hard there, Eileen, and I'm sure Tilly, too, would like it to stop raining so she can go for a walk. Hope it clears up soon!
The shed is rather old, now (about 30 years or so) and there are gaps between the bottom of the shed where it is fixed to the cement slab it's on. The gaps are convenient when I hose down the floor! LOL.
The canned stew was good, warm and filling. Your stewed steak sounds very versatile as you can add any vegetables you like to it. I've some tins of chicken breast that are like that, only the meat.

  2. Well you have certainly kept that shed nice and tidy.
Good job because that doesn't always happen as we all (or at least I) know lol
It's a nice space to have and you must find it very useful knowing where everything is and having easy access to it.
Your beef stew looks so very warming and a good thing to have with rain all around your days.
I'm making some bean Chile today - really a bean soup. Whenever I say I am making a quick batch of bean soup it is this style - like a Chile but more brothy and no meat. I have two avocados that are ripe so I will make some guacamole to dollop on top. And I will make a pot of rice too.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I was surprised to realize that it has been a year since I cleaned out the shed and it has stayed organized for the most part! I'll probably do a little more clearing out in there, later this spring.
The beef stew was one of the items I bought for my emergency supplies and the best buy date is approaching, so it's time to use it up. I will still eat canned food after their best by date, but, I thought that the weather was just right to have some of the stew now. I really wanted to make a beef pot pie, but, I didn't get around to making the pie crust, last night! I was also thinking that, if I add a little more water to the beef stew, it would make a very good soup! I just might do that with some of the leftovers!
Your bean Chile/soup sounds good, too! Any particular type of bean? I have several packets of dried pinto beans that I was given. Guacamole will go very nicely with that soup. If I had ripe avocados, I will make avocado pudding (mashed ripe avocado, some condensed milk, and sugar to taste!) Growing up, that's how we ate avocados - it was always made into a dessert. :)

    1. LOL, yes, I'm impressed, too! I didn't realize it had been a whole year since I cleaned out the shed! What this means is that is has been a year since I cleaned the garage, too! I must take a photo of the garage, now.

  5. Rain stopped play here as well and I gave my M the option to cancel, which she accepted. The rain is getting me down now but it obviously thinks it's April as it's more like April showers rather than a constant steady downpour. I think it's getting slightly warmer here though and I haven't needed the heating on for long at all, which all helps the finances.

I went out for meal with friend L today. We both enjoyed ourselves and it was good to catch up with her. xx

    1. You know what they say about April showers and May flowers! :) Although you already have some very pretty flowers in your garden. That was very nice of you to offer your M the option to cancel. Hope the rain clears soon and M and you can get back to gardening.
I'm glad it is getting warmer for you. It's still chilly for me, (today's high is 55F/12C) but, I am using the electric space heater more than the big gas furnace. I did spend most of the morning outside when it was sunny and it felt warm.
Glad you enjoyed meeting up with L for a meal. :)

  6. Your shed certainly stayed tidy! The beef stew would be warming for a cool, rainy day. We had a day with high winds and some real flurries with whiteouts but today is sunny and pleasant. However, the sap didn't like the low temperatures after a night well below freezing. It will make up for it tomorrow if it is warmer. Meanwhile we are going to bottle about 8 litres of syrup this evening.

    1. It did, didn't it? I am so pleased! I hope it will continue to stay tidy!
The beef stew was tasty and a nice warming meal for me. Even without being turned into a pot pie! I certainly don't need the calories from the pastry! :D I'm thinking it would make a good soup, too, thinned down with a bit of water and a few other vegetables added.
Glad you are having a sunny and pleasant day after yesterday's high winds and snow flurries! Hope the sap will run, tomorrow. Sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy, with 8 liters to bottle up! You'll have to enjoy some of that syrup on a pancake for me, Bushlady. :)

  7. I'm impressed by how neat and organized you've kept the shed! It is cold here, we're getting light snow. Today is my birthday, so it's fitting that there is snow falling as I was born during a snowstorm!! I hope you are staying warm.

Thank you; I was rather surprised and pleased to see that the shed has remained tidy!
It rained early in the morning, then, we had sunshine and it felt warm in the sunshine, but, in the afternoon, it got cloudy and cold! I have the heater on, right now, and keeping warm!
