Restful Sunday

I went to sleep after 4:00 a.m., so, I slept in, this morning.  The weather forecast had said we'd have some rain this morning, but, it was quite sunny when I woke up and the ground was dry.  Maybe it rained while I was still asleep or maybe it rained in other areas.

Chicken Little was waiting with Mama Cat when I opened the sliding glass door to feed Mama Cat.  I got clucked at, perhaps because I was late with breakfast, having slept in!  LOL!

I spent a relaxed afternoon repairing the triangles quilt my daughter had brought down when she visited in November.  I had put it away during the holidays and didn't even touch it in January.  So, this afternoon, I sat in front of the living room window, with the afternoon sun coming in from the window, cut out a few more triangles and sewed them on.  Hand sewing takes time, and I only sewed about four patches, but, it is very meditative.

I called my cousin P who moved to Florida and left her a message, called friend R and chatted with her, and emailed a friend.  Later in the evening, I video chatted with my daughter; she had a good day she said, her friend and friend's husband took her and a couple of their relatives out to lunch and afterwards, daughter did some exploring on her own and got to watch a hula dance performance and part of a Chinese dragon dance before she returned to the hotel.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A relaxed, restful day
- Sunshine
- Daughter had a fun day
- Being able to sew
- My fabric stash!

Today's joyful activities included chatting with my daughter and sewing.

Plans for Monday include more sewing, some housework, and maybe watering the front garden.

How was your Sunday?  What have you planned for Monday?

  1. It does sound like a lovely Sunday afternoon with a blend of some must do tasks & pleasurable want to do activities. I wish hand sewing could be more meditative for me, but it often feels like an extreme sporting challenge, where I some how always end up bleeding. :)

    1. It was a good way to spend Sunday afternoon. I actually prefer hand sewing to machine sewing except machine sewing is faster, of course! It is easy to end up bleeding when you sew by hand, though!

  2. I think Chicken Little is taking advantage of your good nature and taking you for granted :-) Sounds like your daughter is having a wonderful time in Hawaii. Your triangles quilt is beautiful and I'm sure it's a joy to keep it looking good.

    1. Chicken Little is definitely taking advantage of me! I waved my duster at it this morning when it was pecking at the cat food and it took off running! Later, I saw Black Jack (a stray male cat that comes by to visit Mama Cat) in the garden and I thought that Chicken Little should watch out for him! I'm not sure how tolerant he will be of chickens!
My daughter is being shown around the island by her friend, today. I think the tour includes a pineapple field!
Thank you, Eileen; the triangles quilt probably needs a new top, but, then it won't be as soft.

  3. It sounds like you enjoyed a sunbeam as much as Dancer enjoys them. :)

  4. You are so committed with repairing your quilts. I like to hand sew too but still haven't worked on my quilt.
I embroidered that pillow case last year and that got me back into hand sewing and embroidering.
I'm currently doing several challenges I saw on the internet. One is very flexible and I like it. It's a scrap challenge where you make a square anywhere between 3-5" using 3-5 fabrics, 3-5 different threads and 3-5 embellishments of any kind. (trims, buttons, etc whatever you want)
You make 3-5 blocks a month. In January I made 4 and I just finished my first February block. They are a lot of fun.

    1. I just finished repairing the first row which has 40 triangles; I had to replace 12 triangles! At this rate, it might be easier to sew a new top and replace the whole thing! LOL. It won't be the same, of course, but, then, change is good, isn't it? :)
I really like the sound of the scrap challenge that you are doing. Will you be turning the blocks into a quilt top once they are all done? I have boxes and bins full of trim! Maybe I should use some of them for the quilt I'm repairing!

  5. I guess Chicken Little is feeling entitled! Or perhaps the clucking was on behalf of Mama Cat's need for breakfast. I'm glad the Triangle quilt is coming along. There is something satisfying about hand sewing. I was sewing a patch in the inside of a pocket on DH's jeans last week and I enjoyed the work.
It is much warmer today (but not by your standards, LOL) and the sun is brilliant, making for very attractive snowy scenery. The driveway was plowed while we had breakfast, I sang in the funeral choir this morning and then fetched a few groceries.

    1. Ha, Chicken Little was probably saying, "About time, lady!" It was enjoying breakfast with Mama Cat, this morning, too, and I waved my duster at it and it ran down to the end of the garden. Later, when I went out to the back garden, it squawked at me and flew up to the wall and into the neighbor's yard! LOL.
I do enjoy hand sewing. It's good that you do, too. I'm sure it would have been a bit difficult to mend the inside of a jeans pocket with a sewing machine.
Sounds like you are living in a winter wonderland with the snow and the sunshine! I'm glad the driveway was plowed in time for you to participate in the funeral choir and pick up a few groceries. Hope it warms up a bit more and soon!

  7. It does sound like you've had a nice, restful Sunday. I caught up on cleaning the house. It's very windy here this evening, Chicken Little would be blown away! Yes, you were right in your reply in your previous post - my house is very well insulated. About 15 years ago I had insulation blown into the walls and attic, and replaced all the windows with double panes. It made a huge difference!

    1. It was a very nice day, yesterday. Sounds like you had a productive day! I'm sure all that insulation helps to keep your home warm. I need to look into getting that done - this was going to be the year to get some house maintenance and improvement done. I'm still hoping to be able to do so. :)

  8. So you have Dancer one day and Chicken Little and Mama Cat the next, all expressing their dissatisfaction at the standard of service! I think they are being spoiled rotten!

I'm glad you had a restful day and that your daughter was able to see the hula dancing and the dragon dancing ... how exciting for her. xx

    1. LOL, yes! Dancer will meow at me for food, Mama Cat will scratch at the sliding glass door, and now, the chicken has started to peck at the door! My daughter heard the sound of the pecking and asked what it was and I told her that it was the chicken and she couldn't believe it! :D
Thank you, Eileen. My daughter really enjoyed her trip to Hawaii. :)

  9. Hand-sewing can be very restful. I usually don't mind if I have to mend a seam or hem by hand, it also makes me feel rather old fashioned.

    1. I'm enjoying the handsewing, Susanne; I have some music playing or I watch a video while I sew and it becomes very relaxing. :)
